National Rifle Association according to their answering machine.

Got a call, answered and said, "Hello?" three times, and they hung up. When I called back, I got a poor guy who seemed quite nice and understanding, even apologizing for the many calls I get from this particular number.

I got tired of all these calls and bought me a good Call Blocker. Can now block individual calls, area number calls and block ID names. I like the Digitone.

866-427-9582 left no message. My policy now is to block ANY number that leaves no message. I also think Digitone is a cool piece of blocking hardware, but with the ability to spoof numbers, you will soon run out of space with the Digitone. I went with a software solution which gives you the ability to block an unlimited number of phone numbers. I have only been blocking since April, and already am blocking over 200 numbers. And they keep coming.

The blocking software I use is PhoneTray. It's been working great.

Called back this number to see if this is National Rifle Association or NRA (National Recovery Associates).  Recorded message said "National Rifle Association" trying to reach me with important updates.  I am a NRA member, so have added this to my phone's white list of accepted numbers.

Caller Type options should include "organization I do business with", but option isn't there.

Call but no message. When i called them back they asked for someone other thatn me. When i told them i didnt know that person they got mad and called me a liar! Said they want their money now or they will take me house. I told them the only thing i owed was a sweet ass.....and they couldnt have any.

Good grief. How many numbers does the National Recovery Agency have. If this was the National Rifle Association, they wouldn't be hiding their identity from members.  But then, I don't have any unpaid debts, so why is the National Recovery Agency calling me.

And ALSO;  I call BS on your claim of what you heard on the Answering machine, I just got a call from them, called back and their answering machine CLEARLY STATES "You've reached NRA"  not "The NRA", and definitely NOT "The National Rifle Association"  --- JUST "NRA" ..and you, just like dumb-ass Rich, have gone ahead and tried to fill in the blanks with your own little limited knowledge and guess what....you should ever try thinking, you're not good at it.  National Recovery Associates is a sleazy collection agency that calls up with imaginary debts.  They told me I need to pay my American Express balance, and I have NEVER had an American Express card in my entire life.  Dumb [***] like YOU are how these companies stay in businesss

A very rude lady called and asked for my son who has been out of my house for over 20 years. Then said she would make a notation ?  

This is a debt collector.  I'm sure many here do not owe money and pay their bills in a timely manner.  But if you have a son, daughter, or relative that have had financial difficulty now or in the past, this company will call a relative looking for information about the person who owes the money.  This happened to me.....my name, address, and phone number was listed as reference for a credit card by a relative, and he  lost his job.  Long story, short.....now these collectors call every person that this guy listed as references.  This person is in bankruptcy now, but I still receive calls.  I do not answer.  That is what happened to me.  I hope this this helps others, who are being called for no fault of their own.

OK I just called the number and they clearly states you have reached the National Rifle Association we're sorry that you missed our call....press one for more information...so you're being insulting without reason......please don't be so mean and nasty....the world is horrible enough without jerks like you adding to it

I called the number back and the  message said National Rifle Association and never once used "NRA". It would be nice if caller ID identified them as the National Rifle Association and not TOLL FREE CALL.

Fact #1: Caller ID says "TOLL FREE CALL"
Fact #2: When calling 866-427-9582 back from my caller ID an automated message states that this is the "National Rifle Association"

I'll try to be gentle, Rich.  You must understand that the number you see on your caller ID is the number that the scammer puts into the computer.  It's NOT the number they're calling from.  It's only the number they want you to see so that in the event you don't answer, you will call back a number from a legitimate business or organization.  You will then blame them as the culprit that called.  They are NOT.  If the scammer had put in the number to the White House and you recognized it as such, would you expect to hear Barack's voice on the other end if you answered?  Don't be a fool.  Understand what's happening.............block the number from future calls............and move on.  It's really that simple.  OK?  Fine.  Have a nice day.

If the caller had used their real number and the CID said "SPAM CALL" would you have answered?  Right.  So that's why the tricksters use a fake phone number as their identity............and, in the event you don't answer..........but, choose to call back.......you reach the number they falsely used to cover their tracks.  Who's the dummy?  YOU ARE!  Just block the number and forget about it.

(866) 427-9582,(888) 258-7615, (888) 253-5089 are all, ostensibly, the National RECOVERY Association, although the message clearly states the National RIFLE Association; I received calls from the numbers on three consecutive days.  Based on the description, a sleazy scamming "organization".  Two or three months back, I would get least one or two calls from them a day, then it stopped for for several weeks; I'm guessing they were shut down or something, then regrouped.

Joined the National Rifle Association a few years back, kept getting BS offers and e-mails soliciting more money. Then received an e-mail charging me for a DVD I never ordered; had no interest in, and had no intention paying for. The National Rifle Association kept bugging me, and after numerous futile phone calls to explain the situation, I finally got fed up and dropped my National Rifle Association membership (three years ago). Unfortunately this is a leech which will not let go. Now resorting to "anonymous" phone calls to attempt to peddle the BS - despicable. Typical of today's corrupt, blood-sucking political class, the National Rifle Association is more focused on enriching its leaders, than advancing the cause of legal gun owners. I wish someone would found a legitimate firearms association, and put a stop to this sham of an organization.  

C.alls 2 to 4 times a day  they will sometimes use a different number  . They claim to be the NRA . They are not . They are the National Recovery Agency debt collection . Even though they have a wrong number that they are calling they still call

Just got a call from this number and the person asked for my wife. Since she wasn't home the person thanked me and hung up. So I dialed back and it is the National Rifle Association. I'm a member and have been for decades, but the wife isn't. I called some friends within the organization to see if it is legit. It is a program they initiated to expand member base, just as any organization will do including both major political parties, etc. I mentioned to my friend the tactic is not quite what the organization usually does, and can cause some bad PR. So perhaps if more members question the methodology, perhaps the membership solicitation side will rethink this particular way to expand membership.

It doesn't take long to find out who called from a particular number.  Just a bit of 'due diligence'.
