Collection agencies - they purchase old debt that may not be legally collectible. Check yours statue of limitations for debt for your state. Date of last activity on the account is when the clock starts ticking.
Does anyone have their fax number? - Call them back! Cheapest entertainment money can't buy. Try using a different accent every time. Let them walk through their whole little speech then 1) tell them to hold on, then put the phone down and go do the dishes, or 2) ask them whether they are voting for McCain or Obama and why, or 3) ask the person for her mother's maiden and the last four digits of her SSN so you can verify that it's a real person on the phone and not a machine, or 4) say "I haven't finished eating the one I already got they're so big and I'll call you back when I'm done," . . . you get the picture. Hours and hours of fun.
Caller: Asset Care
Caller Type: Collection Agency trying to collect debts no longer valid because of the statute of limitations - It is a debt collection company called Asset Care in Georgia. They claimed I owned a debt to Beale's. I called Beale's and they said that we do not owe them anything. Asset Care said that they would settle our debt by discounting it about a third when they called back a day later. I told them I called Beales and confirmed that I didn't have an over due bill and to quit trying to scam people and that I was filling a complaint with our State Attorney General and also the one in Georgia.
- After numerous phone calls from Asset Care, for a debt that I knew did not involve me, I returned the call.
I was left on hold. I asked them where they got my number which was obviously computer generated, so that they can call and re call, and was repeatedly asked to give them my phone number. I'm 80 years old and do not want to run to the phone for "wrong numbers". I also do not want to waste my time (which is limited) phoning a company to explain that they have the wrong number only to be put on hold. This is ridiculous that we are forced to explain ourselves, give our phone numbers, to a company that knows the chances of them getting the correct number are limited. I filed a complaint with the attorney general at https://www.oag.state.tx.us/forms/cpd/form.php. This has got to stop!!
- I have been getting phone calls from Assetcare for 6 months and today 2/26/10 I already got 2 calls asking me to call Roderick LATIMER at 2 different numbers. We have no debt and never did. We don't believe in Credit cards so they are just harassing us and we are in our 70's. This must stop. These 2 phone calls came before 9:45am. This is rediculous.
