- Mike| 1 replyOnceagain, this number is tied to Portfolio Recovery. DON'T try to satisfy this trash. They try to collect money not due them! Pick up 10+ year old debt that is way past statute of limitations. Once you agree to anything hoping the calls will stop they've roped you in, the clock now starts all over and most likely will attempt to get 3-4 times what was actually owed.
- Caller: portfolio recovery, junk debt collect
- Call type: Debt collector
- crystal replies to Debt Collector| 4 repliesWell they are calling for someone we do not know. We will not pay someone else''s debt.
- crystal replies to MikeAnd apparently they try to collect from anyone because the person they kept calling about we do not know.
- Another Debt Collector replies to crystal| 3 repliesTell them to stop calling.
If you (nicely) explain to them it is the wrong number, they need to remove it. There's no point in wasting time calling wrong numbers, trust me, I do it all day long and it's frustrating.
Make sure to write down the company name, their phone number, and the name of the person you talked to when you tell them to stop calling, just in case they keep calling. If they do, it's possible they have your number on more than one file (which happens often). - Ticked and kicken backWe have this number calling us numerous times every day and when we answered, they are asking for someone who doesn't even live here and never has! We have no idea who this person even is. We told them no one lives here by that name, so stop calling. They continue to call. I'm going to tell them that whoever she is has taken them for a ride to no where by giving you the wrong number, and you fell for it. You will never contact her and that is exactly what she wanted. She won, and took you for a loop.
I am also telling them if they continue to call, my Lawyer will be sending them a letter to Sue their company.- Caller: Unknown name

- don f u replies to Another Debt Collector| 1 replyNo They won't, they are too stupid to stop calling. We've told these idiots looking for the Mc Kays to stop for 15 years and they still call.

- Flo| 3 repliesListen. I have a deadbeat relative and a generic deadbeat...we got our phone number 4 years ago. It is the last "known good contact number" for deadbeat guy Shawn DeMeo, and I am the "known relative" of the family deadbeat. This number [866-444-4831] called every day when we were at work. So I called them today. Yup, turns out they are looking for deadbeat Shawn Demeo. He has so many bad debts that we get these calls all the time. It is possible that this company has more than one bad debt of his, hence the repeat calls. So do give them a call. Get the name of the person you spoke to. Explain the situation. Now, she said she would "take my number out of their system, I would never hear from them again". But I have the info in case there is another bad debt in the pipeline [and with this guy, no doubt there is] As far as a deadbeat relative,do the same thing you would do if they were calling about a stranger, you have no idea, need the number taken out of the system, blah blah. Most of the time this will work, the debt is not yours. If you owe medical debt for heavens sake get in touch with the hospital or Dr the second you incur it, and arrange to pay it off. The higher the bill, the faster you need to move to keep your bill away from the "services" drs and hospitlas now use to "collect" payment for CURRENT bills. Once you get hung up with them, the calls do not stop. I TOTALLY understand huge scary medical debt. I do not understand people not taking the initiative and trying to iron out a payment plan. Are you aware, if you have no insurance, you can negotiate your total bill down, with hospitals and with drs? And make a payment plan? If you own the debt, you need to try and work something out.

- Resident47 replies to Flo| 1 replyThe answer to every problem with a collection agency is not to "iron out a payment plan" or "work something out". Northland is often hired by junk debt buyers who cannot or will not prove anything is owed, and the accounts do not necessarily arise from honest lending or being a willful "deadbeat".
It was entirely possible that NGI had a working number for your ostracized relative, but decided to hassle you first, a common ruse to generate false shame. The volume of calls does not relate to the volume of alleged debts. Agencies repeatedly call whatever times a day because not enough people oppose this obnoxious and often illegal behavior.
As for your left turn down to a medical debt topic, that is one category of debt which attracts an alarming amount of fraud and double-talk due to the dysfunctional manner in which American hospitals and their endless affiliates bill for services. Those collectors need to be disputed as strenuously as any other, especially given the tendency of medical debt collectors toward needless hostility and lawbreaking. - Resident47Whether you are called a debtor or some collector thinks you can flush one out, you have rights and options. Many are simple to exercise if you only learn how. You are entitled to proof of claim and fair treatment. If you get neither, the collection agency should *not* win your assets. You are granted control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue violators at low cost. The FTC and the CFPB can start you on your homework. See also if your state laws grant additional or stronger rights.

CFPB Q&A on debt collection practices
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/askcfpb/search ... debt-collection - Resident47 replies to don f uMore proof that verbal demands do not stick to debt collectors, as so many rely on automated processes, and just as many don't care about your rights. To halt the misfired skip trace calls, laying a paper trail is far more effective than verbal denials. My advice for "not me" cases is found here:
https://800notes.com/forum/ta-34af6a034ba34b6/unending-collection-calls - irritateperson12These people keep calling my mother's phone asking for me. I have not used my mother's number in forever. They won't leave a message or anything. Extremely irritating!!

- Tommy two toesBuy a iPhone and block the number or answer it and tell them your mommy does not allow you to talk to strangers and then start crying
- Caller: Collection
- concerneddaughterThey called looking for my incapacitated mother. They would not give me any information and wanted me to fax my guardian paperwork to them. My mother does not have debts. Sounds pretty shady to me. Prabably one of these schemes that preys on unsuspecting people. So many scammers out there!
