Michael from a yellow pages online service calls. Says I had agreed to a free trial listing and wants to know if I would like to renew for $499. Since I have never agreed to such, free or otherwise, no I don't. He says I have to go through a recorded verification process and they will take me off the list... Since this sounds suspiciously like a scam that harassed my husbands business I am very careful not to word anything that can be construed as affirmative. I point out to him that this sounds remarkable like the scam that we have already reported to the State Attorney general and sent a lawyers letter to. He claims his innocence and proceeds. I tell him flatly that I never agreed to any of this that they have no legitimate recording of me agreeing to this and that I refuse to pay for this. If this works like it did for my husbands business he will call again, harassing to be paid.

Similar story to Holly B. Yesterday, Nov 19, 2009, a "gentleman" called asking to speak to the owner or manager of our company to update our Internet Yellow Pages listing. I told him our agency director is away on vacation. I knew it was going to be a strange call when this person tells me he thought it was odd that the agency director had left for Thanksgiving so early. Anyway, he asks if anyone else can verify the contact information for the company, and I told him I could. He starts his pitch, and I ask directly if this is a free or a paid listing and tell him that if it is a paid listing, we are not interested. I also ask we be removed from their call list. He tells me he needs to transfer me to another person to record my statement that we be removed from the list. This is pretty unusual as other telemarketing firms will simply remove (or say they're removing) you if you ask. I tell him that I don't want to be recorded, and that if he provides me with the company's local phone number, the street address, or a fax number, I'll have a letter written to formally request our removal because we want to keep a copy of it in our files too. It goes without saying that audio recordings can be doctored. He claims the company has multiple addresses, and asks which address would I like? And he claims there is no local number for the company, only the 866-496-6804 number. He again says that he'd like to transfer me to the person who will record my statement. Again, I refuse. He tells me that we will then continue to receive phone calls from them and hangs up. I can't wait.

I received a call from this number (only the number showed on caller ID), and the gentleman wanted to update our Yellow Page listings for individual departments within our organization, such as adding new numbers or Web site links. He said he was from the Yellow Pages and he represented the online version of the book "with the fingers," but he couldn't identify the local cover photos from any of the five different books I've seen in our remote area. I told him there are so many phone books in our area now that we only work with the local phone company reps and we have long-standing relationships with them. After hanging up, I Googled the number captured on caller ID and found several previous complaints about the caller from this number.

I just remembered something else about the call. When I asked who in our company his company had worked with for the previous listing, he said all that information was in archives. He said he'd have to check archives for the info and call back.

I just got off the phone with a SANDY who represented herself as being from Yellow Pages Online calling to see if I wanted to renew my listing for 2010. I said NO because I am a small start up biz and need to watch every penny, and then, similar to the above/below comments, she needed to record the call to cancel it. I asked to speak with customer service, and she said that I could speak to them after she recorded my information. She then asked if I needed a reference number for the PO of $598 for my 2009 listing! She couldn't tell me who at my company authorized such a listing (she said she didn't have my account info available). ANYWAY, after waiting on hold with their "customer service" for about 10 minutes, their system hung up on me. I called the official Yellow Pages Online and one of their customer service reps alerted me to the 800notes.com site and this scam which is from a company called ONLINE YELLOW PAGES.com - apparently the FTC is investigating them for fraud. I am going to twitter about this scam too...

We received a call from Nancy Black who claims to be an attorney for Yellow Pages, an online directory about a "past due" invoice. She then gave me this number to have a manager contact her.  SCAM?!

Nancy Black from the "The Yellow Pages Online" called saying our invoice was past due and she represented herself as an attorney. They say we owe $599.95 and it is passed due and in collections and we need to pay right away. I told her I could not talk to her right now. How can we get this company to stop harrassing us? They have been doing this for months now!

A couple of years ago I had the same problem at work(government agency) I told them I would bring the information I had to the County Attorney and she could take it up with him did not here back from them after that.  Lately I am sure the same company is trying it again but I am a little wiser to them this time good luck with this.

Here is the latest....The funny thing is it is impossible for them to call our place of business and speak to  ME because I DO NOT work onsite!! I have an different telephone number. But yet they claim to have a recording with me authorizing their service!! I have reported them to the BBB, I need to report them to the attorney general and whoever else is in charge of regulating business practices! I tried to call their phone number to see if I could speak to Jack Brown and the call would not go through!

My name is Jack Brown. I am the manager at Customer Service and Complaint Department at The YP Online. I will be handling this matter from now on until the issue is resolved. We have a verbal contract, which is a telephonic recording, between Ms. CW and our sales representative which clearly states that all the details for our online package were clearly mentioned by our sales representative and agreed upon by Ms. CW. If you would like, I will be more than happy to email this recording to you and Mr. Ms. CW. There was no trickery involved and Mr. Peter Renaghan should abstain from using those words for our business as we have proof that our sales call was perfectly legitimate. We request the concerned party to give us a call and if we are able to answer all her questions we would like the payment to be made as soon as possible. Thank you.

I received a call from 866-496-6804 from a Ms Nancy Black who said that I owed $599. for  Yellow Pages Internet advertising, while they played a 'verbal contract' back to me it was a contract that was both misrepresented and obtained fraudulently. When I was initially called (heavy handed sales techniques), I was informed that I could cancel within the initial period (I believe that this was 30 days), I was under the impression that I in fact did cancel (again verbally - but no recording on this end) and let it be. I then receive a call some months later stating that I owe $599 for a service I didn't want  and was tricked into signing up for. (BTW - if in fact I did have services provided with this company it did not show as there was NOT ANY INCREASE in my business as a result of this so called service) If they phone you do not talk to then, let them know that you have filed a complaint with the Attorney General (consumer complaint division) and the Better Business Bureau, as I have done to resolve this matter.

I received a call from this number attempting to collect a debt for a 'renewal' of a service I had never authorized!!!!

debt collector trying to get me to pay for some service I did not authorize and certainly did not want, she insisted that I would have the company atty file suit to collect something like $600 from me. They said we had a audio contract (verbal contract) , I hung up on then and will follow the advice of Ivan and file a complaint with my local Attorney general or congress person

Called by Nancy Black (she claimed to have a law degree - oooh I'm scared now), but was referring my 'case' to the company attorney for some kind of scam contract for internet advertising I never authorized. I phoned the number back once, then on a 2nd attempt the call was unable to go through, perhaps they disconnected their lines following all the scam attempts they tried pulling?

I just received a call telling me that I owed money for an online yellow pages listing that was 'complimentary' for the first year and hundreds of dollars at the end of that year if I did not call a certain number to cancel the 'contract'.  I demanded to see a copy of a contract with my signature on it and was told that the 'agent' with whom I met should have told me about the charges.  The thing is I did not meet with any 'agent'.  I doubt the company even has 'agents' that make face-to-face visits or get signatures on paper.  I deal only with the local yellow pages for this very reason.  I asked for the name and address of the company so that I could report them to the Attorney General of Missouri, but was told that I could not do that.  I ranted a minute or two more and kept hearing implausible explanations until the man hung up on me.

I received the same call yesterday, 10/11/10.  I gave the same response and "they" will check their archives and get back to me.

I am receiving the same type of call from 866-496-6804 Yellow Pages Online, except the contact is Michael Nelson.. He has called me for days on end trying to reach the owner. Today I finally confronted him and explained that we are not interested in paying the $599.00 for online advertising, and never would be. He told me that he could reduce it by $100.00 and he would just take a moment to record the call. I told him that this was nothing but a scam, and asked him for the mailing address of his business. He told me to hold on (I need to hold for a mailing address??) and then phone disconnected. It is interesting to read the threads above and note that the last names they have used are Black & Brown!! Pretty original I think.

These people are all scam artists.  Just tell them you are reporting the call to the Better Business Bureau and your attorney and then hang up.  Don't give them ANY information.  They all need to get real lives.

They called me today at work and asked for me . They wanted to verify my information ,and i told them there was no need to do so since i was not advertising with them , only the local yellow pages relevant to my service area  . She informed me that i had already been subscribing for 2 years now . I asked , really ?
Who authorized it ? Can you fax me the contract i signed ? She then said , i'm serious i'm sending an invoice for $599.00 !! Isaid , "are you out of your f$@%ing mind !!! she said " this is hardly a way for a professional person to talk . I said   your  a professional ? she said , "yes " . i said , "professional scam artist maybe " You have already been reported to my local Attorney General and do you realize that there is 100's of websites about you and your company being a scam ? she hung up ..
