maybe a real person or she was reading a script.  The message was "Hi this is so and so calling on behalf of major health contract providers for medicare.. you maybe eligible for preventative health care, call us back at 866 525 6243.   The odd thing is we don't  use the provider that was mentioned????

(Just another way to CONTROL and  big SNOOP in our daily lives, in one's opinion,by wanting to adjust lifestyle whether we want it or not).

Just received a call from this number and she said that they wanted to know if I had a test for colon cancer. That they were asking about my insurance carrier Empire and wanted information on my preventive care plan. I do have Empire, but never heard of this plan of preventive care. Sounded very strange and weird. They wanted to get the name of my Dr. and I would not give it to them, as they should have that info in the system, if they really are from Empire. I still think that something is funny and not right.

Rec'd a call several times, asked them to mail me the information.  I never give out any personal data via phone.  They said, no.  I don't know if they will ever stop calling.  I told them that I wasn't interested.

Said she was a rep from Blue Cross, my insurance carrier & insisted on making an appointment for me to see my doctor for glaucoma screening, said she wanted to do a 3-way call to be sure I would make the appointment, but since it was the weekend, she couldn't.  Asked personal medical information about me &  the names & addresses of my doctors.  I called medicare & they said this was not a legitimate call, so I reported it to the attorney general because of all the personal information they insisted on getting from me.

thanks for this forum, I would have called them back and just might have given up some info... I think a rule to follow is to treat everybody as a fraud... besides, I would think i'd get something in the mail too

might have been a 3rd party to gather info/intel for their client, where as the insurance company wanting the info/intel would never jeopardize their ethics practice and violate the law by steering people...

Received a call from a man with an India person's dialect that wanted to verify information about our health care provider "Anthem". He asked about our phone number which he must have had to call me, our address and family doctor. When he asked about the name of my family doctor, I hung up and called Anthem. Anthem representative said that they never call to verify any information, especially at 8:25 p.m.

I received a call from these people also but it was from 800-405-1806 a message was left on answering machine which asks to call them back at 866-525-6243 ext. 40404 you can also opt out of the calls from there. The call is from Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield patient coordinating center. They place these annoying calls to members in order to find out if you are making use of your benefits by asking about what doctors you are visiting check ups and such. It is a legitimate call they have called before but I did not return the call and they kept calling, I have also answered one of their calls and they were asking to send someone to my home to check my blood pressure and ask questions about my health and how I was managing my appointments I declined but I neglected to tell them not to call me for these things. Today I returned the call was asked to verify my number and address and the lady verified they were trying to contact me to update my info. I told her I was not interested in receiving these calls and she quickly said she could remove  my name from these programs if I wanted. it is voluntary you are not required to participate but you must notify them. This is a separate service  used by the insurance provider so contact them directly if you want them to stop calling.

I received a letter from Anthem and was told the company had tried to call me about preventive health care services  I don't recall any phone call from the company unless it was one of several phone calls that did not provide an I.D. (I do not respond to unknown phone I.D's.  However, I called the 866-525-6243 number and a person with a foreign dialect answered and asked for my name and phone number and said that since today was Saturday I would be called back in two days.  When I hung up the phone I questioned the letter and the phone call and decided to Google the phone number and came up with this forum.  Should I be called later, I will simply tell them I'm not interested and to remove my name and phone number from the list.

I have had the same unlisted phone number for 30 years.  Suddenly, in the past three or four months, these scam calls are coming in daily.  Thankfully, I have caller ID and no longer answer my phone unless it's a number I recognize.  Almost all of the scam calls don't leave a message, but this one did.  I was suspicious, however, because even though they said it was regarding my health insurance, they did NOT identify their company OR my provider, so I came here, and sure enough, it's a call I'm glad I did not answer OR respond to.  Thank goodness we don't have to answer our phones anymore thanks to caller ID.  I find that a good rule of thumb is not to return any calls unless I am absolutely positive that they are legitimate.  In today's world, it's just too risky.  I also want to say that even before caller ID, if anyone would call me and start asking questions, I would never respond.  Nobody is obligated to answer questions from unsolicited callers.  No matter how persistent they are, all you have to do is hang up.  Or if you feel that's being rude, just politely say "I have to go now - goodbye" and hang up even if they are still speaking because they are trained to keep you on the line if you don't end the call yourself.

Message left from 1-866-525-6243 asking me to call back to extension 40404 for information from Anthem.  After reading this, decided a call-back was not worth my time unless they become a pain.  Thanks for the forum!

Received a message on my cell phone referring to my health plan, but the name of the person they were referring to was garbled.  They said that to prevent future calls that I needed to return this call to 866-525-6243 X40404.  I called the number and an American woman answered.  She asked me what my phone number was and I told I really don't know my cell number.  Then she asked me for my name, which I gave to her.  After awhile she came back and said that the phone number was supposed to be for a woman by the name of Rebecca Roy.
I told her my number is certainly not for that person and to please not call me again.  Great forum with lots of similar remarks.

This unds like an ambulance chasers scam. You give them your medical information and then they set the scam by calling you with the ridiculous claim that you owe back medical bills.

Just got a call from this number concerning my father and his insurance.  (They had called him first, he gave permission to call me) They asked Dr names etc and how he took his meds.  I told them I helped my parents with all this type thing and they insisted they were legitimate and just wanted to help him.  Long story short I mistakenly did finally give his doctor name after I asked why they needed the name if they already were supposed to be his insurance carrier...she stated she wasn't allowed to view his personal files and this was just to help co -ordinate health care problems...ex. help with financial aspect of buying meds and such.  I told her we gave no info out over the phone and she insisted a lady would call me in two days to help with the expense of his meds.  After hanging up, I goggled the number and sure enough found this site.  I immediately called back and told the answering party to remove this number and my parents number from their call list and if they had information for us to send via mail.  These scamming companies should be prosecuted by law.  I have told my parents to never give out information but this lady had all her bases covered and must be a pro at this!   BEWARE

    FOR YOUR GOOD HEALTH
I received a call from 1-866-525-6243 x40404. I didn't pick up. They left the message. I called them. I spoke to Lee, a man with a slight foreign accent. I was angry at first because he wanted my address and I told him he would have to tell me what he wanted before I gave out any information. I can't remember what he said, but he convinced me that the call was legitimate. He knew something personal about my records. He said he was from Care Coordinating Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He recommended that I get a physical. He said they have transportation services if I need them (that they could set them up for me). He said they had social workers available if I needed to talk to one and that they had pharmacists available if I needed to talk to one. He wanted to know if I had a colonoscopy. I told him there were 3 similar type tests and that I had one of them. Actually, there are 4 but I forgot one. Colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, fecul occult, and virtual colonoscopy. I wasn't going to discuss something so personal with a man whose legitimacy seemed dubious. He didn't press me for the exact answer.  I had a call from these people before about a year ago and I think I told them then to mail me the information. Blue Cross Blue Shield does have a program with Social Services Coordinators in connection with Medicare if you qualify for Extra Help so I thought I might have confused the names which is why I stayed on the phone with him. About all he got out of me was my address and how old my car was (a '92) which he thought was a riot. He asked if it was a foreign car and I told him it was a Ford and he laughed even harder! It was one of the stupidest conversations I've ever had! They don't seem to be getting much information out of us and based on what others have written here, I can't figure out what they hope to gain with these phone calls. However, if it is a legitimate company working with BCBS, it wouldn't surprise me because their communications skills are just as bad. I had to contact them 9 times (that's NINE) in order to get supplemental dental insurance. 4 emails, 5 phone calls. One phone call was a 3-way with a social services person who was trying to help me. BCBS disconnected us. So, in my humble opinion, Lee could be working with BCBS. Same MO.
