I received a call from Monitronics.  I have CANCELLED my service over a month ago, and every single day I receive harrassing calls to try and convince me to turn my service back on.   This was the number that was left on my voice mail.  I called it back and Cynthia in Dallas, TX told me that she had activated my account and made me VERY ANGRY.  I told her that if she had activated that account that she would be about to lose her job.  She refused to listen to me and remove me from their call lists.  I threatened her with the FTC.  Told her that additional calls from her company would be a violation of the DO NOT CALL because I had asked at least 4 times previously to be added to the DO NOT CALL LIST.  She even acknowledged that I had spoken with at least 3 different people regarding this.  I would NEVER recommend Monitronics to ANYONE if this is the service you get.  4 calls THIS WEEK to try and get them to remove my number from the system.  VERY irritating.

Basically this is telemarketing at its worst. Avoid this company.

    V. mail on my cell from this caller saying they had "dispatched the authorities". I don't even have, nor ever have had, an alarm system on my home. But that number is supposed to be covered by the do not call list.

We are in the process of cancelling our Monitronics account.  My neighbor, who is the EMERGENCY contact on the account received a call for us.  I do not understand why our neighbor has to be bothered by calls for us.  Somebody needs to put a stop to this number...now!

I had to write a letter to Monitronics to cancel my service due to moving. Today, I received a call from someone telling me to call 1-800-541-9453 ext. 3749 but when I call, it is a "sex talk" line telling you to call another number. I called Monitronics and they said they just received my letter yesterday! Apparently, someone at the company is intercepting this information. I will wait and see if I get another call tomorrow.  I have ATT U-verse and am searching for a way to block the phone number of the call.  This is ridiculous!

We were moving and wanted to cancel our service from Monitronics until we discovered that we still had 5 months or so left on our contract. We were told that they would install a new system in the new house for FREE instead of moving the existing system because we still needed it there due to a landlord being foreclosed and breaking into the house twice. When the technician called to confirm the appointment, he told us we were going to get charged over $300 for the new system. I explained the issue to him and told him if that was the case, then we would move the system from the old house to the new. He then told us we'd STILL get charged over $150 for the move. At that point, we decided to just cancel our service altogether and just pay the early termination fee because they were being so sketchy and trying to charge us when they told us there would be NO charge. The technician called us directly no less than 3 times, never leaving a voice mail message. We called Monitronics to request cancellation and they told us we had to send the cancellation in WRITING, which is stupid and a waste of time. You should be able to do so from their website, or by telephone, but I suppose it makes sense for security purposes. Once again they called, this time to CONFIRM our cancellation last Friday, even after receiving the request in writing, and spending 10 minutes trying to talk us into reinstating our service for free and only $20 a month. On this last Monday, they called our home number instead of main contact ONCE AGAIN saying they needed to confirm some information for the cancellation. At this point, we want NOTHING to do with Monitronics, and if we continue to get charged for the service, or receive one more phone call, I will be logging a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. NOT a great way to retain or re-gain lost business; I've never seen anything like it before!

I have just cancelled my account with Monitronics. I've had the system for 5 years so I am outside the contract. Because I was month to month they were trying to tell me I had to give them 30 days notice in writing  and they were going to charge me for another month plus some non descript $9.00+ fee. I didn't let them even get that far. I sent them their damn letter. I also stated that I have no income, am unable to work for health reasons and until I can get social security disability or start collecting early social security the only house hold income is my husbands who is collecting disability and no one can collect anything legally from anyone on disability. I also already told them I would turn it over to the state attorney general for "starters". I find it really funny that they tell you not to talk to any security outfit going door to door which when we got our original system they were going door to door. It wasn't even Monitronics when we got our system. It was Stone Alarm based in Utah. After seeing some of the posts here I won't bother returning there phone call. They can piss up a rope if that will do them any good. We got another system installed, a local company and a whole lot less hassle to arm and disarm with a remote control. If they try to re-activate our system like my husband favorite saying we'll have them by the balls anyway because there aint no system installed for them to activate. It has entirely been uninstalled and I of course made a copy of my cancellation letter to them stating that fact as well. I too think this company needs to be out of business. They must be hurting for business or they wouldn't be resorting to these unethical as well as illegal tactics. So I am armed and ready for them to try anything. Besides, 30 days notice is nothing more than a way to scam another months payment which is what I also stated in my cancellation letter and I told them in no uncertain terms I was not going to pay for service not received. Granted I am an better shape because I was way beyond the contract so I think the state attorney general will agree that I have no balance owing since I was paid up and current and my next payment wasn't even due until 9/12. Idiot I talked to on the phone when I tried to cancel it over the phone couldn't keep it straight either whether I was paying for service in advance (which is how it was set up) then tried to say I was paying after service dates. I don't know of any outfits that bill you after you've received service. They don't have a leg to stand on in my case.

Call the right number!  Its not 1-800-541-9453, its 1-866-541-9453.  Don't blame the company if you can't read the number correctly.  Scheese!!!  I had Monitronics for 3 years and was very satisfied. Cancelled when we moved.

Trying to sell batteries that have different prices by the hour, trying to send techs to sell more equipment and never telling the customer who inquires about the system they would have to change their phone equipment for the alarm.  Billing after cancellation, calling contacts for payment (lol) and you get a different answer every time you talk to a different person at the customer service phone number, but that's after waiting on the phone for lengthy periods.   Are they that desperate for money?  Customers are leaving right and left and none are happy with the service.  They seem to all need batteries, or the tech comes out and never informs the customer of the equipment they are using an old system that will fail in 3 months.  How is that for bad customer relations?   I would use this company if it were free.  They seem to be very dishonest.  Would you trust this company with your safety?

I received a phone call from this number but I didn't answer it. My three year contract expires on July 14, 2014. I called on the 23rd of June to confirm and discuss what would happen when it expired. The person I spoke with told me I had to give them a 30 day written notice. I had my contract in front of me and I asked him where it said that in the contract as I had not seen it. He said it was under article 3. I read article 3 to him and it didn't say anything about a 30 day written notice. He said let me call up your contract and he said he did and read article 3 from his article 3 and it said that I was supposed to give them a 30 day written notice. I told him again that my contract didn't say that and I read it to him again. He said then that he would honor the phone call as notice and he would cancel it on July 14, 2014 and he would take care of the rest of it referring to the 30 day date he established July 23, 2104. I am hoping that they won't take any more payments as they are automatically taken out of my bank account.

I have tried multiple times to cancel my 5 year contract, but every time I call in they come back with a different story on why they can’t terminate the service.  My 5 year contract was from June 2009 – June 2014.  When I called to cancel it they would NOT tell me what I needed to do to cancel the service.  Instead they just transferred my call around.  After multiple phone calls, I was finally told that I needed to mail in a letter due to their 30 day notice of cancellation policy.  When they received the letter, they called me trying to persuade me to keep their service.  They would not take no for an answer.  After getting hung up on 2 times, the gentleman told me that my contract was for 5 years and that I still owed for 2 months.  I explained to him how my contract ended in June and it is now August.  He said my contract doesn’t end until October.  Please explain to me how a 5 year contract is from June 2009 to October 2014?  After 30 minutes arguing with him he said he was billing me the 2 additional months.  It has been 1 week since that phone call, and today I received another phone call harassing me about not cancelling the service. So after all of this, it appears my service still hasn’t been canceled.  I would NEVER refer any person to Monitronics

It doesn't matter what number he called.  It does not change the fact that Monitronics is an awful company (costs and fees, customer sevice, policies).  They drilled holes in all my walls "looking for the best location." Then after being there for 4 hours, tried telling me I couldn't get the package/installation I requested because it was incompatible. They tried charging me to have a repair man come out to fix THEIR faulty equipment.  Worst. Company. Ever.

Received a call about canceling my service. I did not answer because I don't even know what kind of company Monitronics is and I never had an account with them. They did know my name some how.

Today is Friday; 6/5/15.  So, that number is Monitronics? No one from that number ever left me a voicemail and since it is an 866 number, as well as unknown to me, I don't answer it. That number has called me once (so far today), twice yesterday, twice Wednesday, twice Tuesday, and once on Monday. When I go back in my past calls, they have called everyday, including Saturdays, since 5/27/15, but that's as far back as the calls go. I can tell you they called everyday since I wrote them a letter (as required) to cancel services. What bothers me most is that they don't leave a voicemail to let me know who it is. Now, after reading your comment, I don't want to call them. I'll just look at my bank statement to see if they did, in fact, cancel the drafts, and if so, I won't call them. I will call the DO NOT CALL fed line (I thought I was already on it) to ensure I am on the list and file a complaint. Thanks for everyone's comments-I finally feel at ease knowing who the heck it is.

We bought our house a year ago from people who had Monitronics for over 13 years, so we had no contract. After we had a power outage that lasted for a week, all of our power came on EXCEPT for the alarm system, and when it did, it went off randomly. After calling for help, we were told that we would need to pay to have someone come out to fix it...REALLY... so I decided to go with another company, and emailed Monitronics 4 times, called 3 times, which was a nightmare because, after you say the word CANCEL, you are switched from person to person, then "accidentally" disconnected every time, and sent a certified letter to them. I was told on the phone that our account would not be cancelled until 30 days after they recieved the letter, so I cancelled my credit card, wrote in the certified letter that we were under no contract, we had a zero balance, and I had already talked to Ashley in customer rewards, who admitted that we were under no contract, and that I recorded the call for good measure, as well as made a copy of my certified letter for my records. I also stated that, after they told me under my "contract which has been under effect for years, which we agreed upon", we had only lived there for a year, I wanted a copy, they said they had no "access"...really...hmmm...anyways, if anyone wants to cancel, give yourself plenty of ammo, such as recorded phone calls, save your emails to them, and copy your certified letter. Monitronics WILL try to enroll you again, and deny that you contacted them. Good luck!

This is Monitronics. I only got an alarm through  them because a relative was employed by them and I was trying to help them out. I was totally unaware that the contract was for 5 years! There are only two things I would knowingly agree to sign a contract exceeding 2 years (mortgage and a vehicle). After experiencing several issues with their equipment (technicians coming every week and "fixing" the problems only to return a couple of days later for the exact same problem), I switched my service. I was told upon switching my service that I had 18 months remaining on my contract. Imagine my shock! I told them to continue billing me, but I was still changing companies. They said the contract was expired in March 2016. As soon as March arrived, I sent in the cancellation letter. Now they tell me it expires in April 2016. They will try their best to get you to renew or continue service. I shut them down immediately.

The call was from Monitronics.  I cancelled the account in July and am constantly getting calls (five times a day) for their business with a special offer of $15 per month..  NOT INTERESTED!!!  This company sucks!!!  I had this alarm company for over 10 years and they were constantly ripping me off.  Called to be put on the DO NOT CALL list IMMEDIATELY!!!
