    Got a call from this phone number from a guy who said he is from legal protection services and this was a recorded call and asked me to verify my birthday. I replied i am not verifying any personal information over the phone and am not interest in buying anything he is trying to sell.  His reply of coarse your not you dont pay your bills why would i sell you something and kept repeating that over and over in a abusive harsh tone of voice. I still have yet to know what the heck this guy wanted after about 5 minutes of his verbal abuse I told him I was reporting him to the fcc and not to call back.   This is some kind of scam do not even take a call from this number.  I am reporting this harassing and abusive phone call.

    Got a call from this number, the caller id was blocked so I did not answer. Left a message saying he was an attorney for Legal Prevention Services calling about a lawsuit blah blah. And at the end of the message he said Mr. So & So you have been served. It was quite an annoying message. But also ironic to think it ended with that...you have been served in a voicemail LOL and it wasn't even for me, I am not the person the message was for. Yeah, that's got to be on the up & up.

    The bully wanted your money for some debt his boss cannot prove you owe. Hence accusing you of shirking your bills, the number one insulting lie told by his kind. The FCC has little jurisdiction here. You want the CFPB, FTC, and attorneys general. You also would like to know where this goof works so you can sue his agency for FDCPA violations.

    Wouldn't be the first fraud factory to pretend process service can be done verbally. Naturally the lawsuit is just as mythical, creating another FDCPA violation.

    I got a call from these guys too... although it was under a local number.  They asked if I had a way to contact a friend of mine.  That she had a lawsuit pending and even gave me a "court case #" US16-7545... googled that and realized it isn't even the proper format for a court case file #.  Called them back and asked how they got my contact information and they would not answer me... They got rude and started yelling at me.

    A man by the name of Kyle Stirling called my husband and ex mother in law threatening that I will have to go to court if I didn't call him back. He refused to provide any information to my husband, wouldn't even provide his phone number. When he called my ex mother in law the next day, he told her that it is very important that I call him and referred to me as my married name 8 years ago. He left the number with her of 866-549-3728 ext 207. A total bully and scared my entire family - still have no idea what he wants because he refuses to call ME.

    This of course is part of the scheme. The thug can find all of your distant relatives and yet pretends you are some slippery fugitive, creating a thin excuse to "skip trace" all over the country. But then, not being satisfied with seeking only "location information", which is all the FDCPA permits, the crook is blabbing about your alleged debt problems and making sure everyone hears the false threats. Now you're supposed to be wetting your pants and unable to cut a check fast enough for some "debt" which remains unverified. Again, the behavior is extortionist and illegal and gives you cause to start a *real* lawsuit.

    They called asking about my father stating there was a civil law suit against him.  Have no idea how they even got my phone number. This is some kind of marketing strategy to sell legal services.  This should be illegal.  They called from an unknown # and the voice that originally spoke to me was different from the one on the voice-mail.  Caller said his name was Jeffrey Stine 866-549-3728 ext.217.

    } This is some kind of marketing strategy to sell legal services.

    How is that even a marginally plausible conclusion? How would that law firm slogan go, "Hire me before I sue you"?!

    } This should be illegal.

    Maybe if you'd read any part of this thread first, you would realize the false lawsuit threat already is.

    Okay genius, exactly which "laws and rights" are you talking about?  The FDCPA or something else?  Are you suggesting with all of the fraudulent operations out there people have nothing to fear by returning a call to an unknown number that has complaints about callers from that number impersonating court officials and discussing non-existent court cases they are alleged to be a defendant in?

    >>>>> this is actually really stupid
    On this we agree.  Your post was arguably the most idiotic and ill-informed piece garbage I've read in a while

    Called them up out of curiosity.   Asked where they were located, they said:

    408 Quaker Rd,
    East Aurora,
    NY 14052

    Which is the US Post Office for East Aurora NY!   (It's clear they are hiding their real address which I'm sure is a single family residence in the local area.  The guyon the phone sounded as if he was using a device to mask his voice.

    This is in keeping with the tendency of a lot of debt scammers to congregate in New York-- especially in small towns although this area looked pretty upscale.

    This idiot called my work and asked to verify employment for me.  I am calling them back to have them fax over a request to verify my employment and see what happens.  Then maybe I can get their address and the real name of their company and counter sue them for harrasment.  They keep calling me threatening legal action because they say I took out a payday loan with a company called SSM.  I never dealt with such a company.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    •Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
