A guy said he is calling from ARS and needs to verify my mail address. Refused to tell anything else until I verify. I hung up. According to my research ARS is a collection agency.

I repeatedly get calls from Tim Stanovich requesting a return call from either me or my attorney.  He says "you understand this is not a sales call."

Got a call asking me if I knew an Anthony or Lisa Gimati (or something similar) - it was "long distance from Montana," and was concerning a lawsuit.  He had both my married name and my maiden name.  I told him I had no idea who that was...I was sick, so I wasn't on my best game.  I am very nervous that I gave too much information because I verified who I was.  I'm thinking I may need to change my phone number and contact my credit bureau or something...I have excellent credit and no outstanding collections or anything, so I don't know what it would have been about.

"Curtis" from ARS called looking for "Robert", which is my brother's name.  Said it was urgent that he speak with him today.  Message was left on my machine.  Never called it back nor forwarded the message to my brother.

Update: Curtis also asked ME to call him back, "...or if not, please pass along the message to Robert...".  Decided to mention to "Robert" after all.  Linked him to this page in fact.  Hi Bob.

I got a weird call (around 4:30pm ~ish) from this number while my phone was off all day today. I don't know how he had/got my number or how he knows that "Michael" is my brother.. but here is the exact message this guy "Curtis" left me.

    My Voicemail:
"Andrew I'm trying to get in touch with Michael , it's actually very important I talk to him.. I'm having a very hard time reaching him directly and it has you listed as relitave. If your in contact with Michael if you could plase fowared my message as being urgent or let me know how I can reach Michael directly.. again my name is Curtis the name is my company is ARS, my phone numner is 8665521377 my ext. is x2134. uh.. again it is very important I speek with Michael if you could forward my message as being urgent or let me know how I could reach him I would appeciate either one.. thank-you.."

    WTF!?!?

Now I dont know WHY he said "again my name is Curtis" because up untill this point I never knew the name if the caller, so saying "again" when you never told me your name at the begainning of the voice mail is just f'd up. -dont you think? lol

Another thing that pisses me off about this caller is that he kept repeating himself over again in the message. (ex: forward my message as being urgent)  -this guy is a stupid looser!

How did he get my number? I don't know; because I barely even speak to my brother Michael.. I'll be chewing this guys ass out tomorrow morning *if* I can even get a hold of the idiot.

This company called my sister claiming I listed her as a reference which I do not recall. They stated that I had "personal business" with them. The name given was Bill Emerson. I do know collection agencies have ways of gathering this kind of info. This practice is forbidden under the law. I advise that you make your relative(s) aware of this and tell them to give a clear warning to not call their number again. If the harassment continues you may be able to sue to have the debt released as a penalty.

Got a call from this same number several times.  They state, "Trying to reach your mother concerning a legal matter..."  Left 3 voice messages on my cell in a month.  Rang today at 10:45 AM, I decided to answer it.  The guy says do you have her number?  No I said.  Does she still live at the Village?  I don't know, I replied.  Any living relatives near her.  No again.  I asked, how did you get my number??  He states my mother used it as a reference.  Not likely I told him, she doesn't know my number.  I asked again.  What business do you have with my mother?  He says we think someone is taking advantage of her financially.  (I thought, not likely as she is on a fixed income...)  I finally asked him to not bother me anymore.

I have received 4 calls from ARS (guy named Kaylin) regarding attempts to contact my son - wanted me to give him information (I refused). He also called my daughter! I spoke to supervisors as well as Kaylin and told everyone to stop contacting me or I would file a formal complaint. These people are extremely pushy and get nasty when you don't give them what they ask for.

Just got a call from this number. She wanted my husband, who works very odd and late hours. I told her he was not home but I could take a message. She gave me her number and extension and said it was important for him to contact her. I asked her what it was concerning and she said she could not disclose that information without MY husbands permission. Well, I know my husband and he is NOT going to be calling back. Besides, I take care of all the business and if she doesn't want to talk to me than she is not going to be getting anything accomplished.

It is 100% legal for someone from a collection place to call your friends, family, even your neighbors, the info they get from skip tracing a debtor is also completely legal....ARS is a debt recovery agency…they are in Kalispell Montana 866-552-1377…or 406-755-9522 (Podunk USA) they also have a sister co in Denver Co. the people that work in that one are a bit on the offense side and if they break the law they should be sued! The FDCPA (YOU CAN FIND THE REAL LAW ON LINE) is there for all of us to use and for collectors to follow if they don’t sue em! ARS COLLECTS BAD DEBT... If a collector makes a call to a wrong number it’s due to old info. Why in the world would anyone waste their time calling a number that will in the end result in not getting their job done…I think that people with good credit would just say I am sorry you have the wrong number. However what people like to do is complain and try to make other peoples jobs more difficult just due to the nature of the biz….Pay your bills then you have no issues….answer the phone and tell the person “you have the wrong number”…change your phone number if the person holding that number  before you was such a deadbeat you continue to get calls for them…..there is nothing anyone can do about the phone number being listed to the wrong person and it will go on for years! What I find amusing is that people listen to other people with bad debt and do not take the time to find out what the laws really are. I agree with the person that said you could use a hobby. Fact is that a debt collector’s job is one of the hardest and most regulated biz there is out there; as long as people do not pay their debts the way the contract says to…there will be debt collectors….. And really do the rest of us need to pay for deadbeats with higher interest rates?! I for one am sick to death of it.

Mr. Bill Emerson followed the law to the letter, this little blog of yours shows exactly how a collector is to conduct themselves...I mean to tell you perfectly!! .forbidden by law!! OMG that is too funny! For all reading this is how it is suppose to be done, Mr. Emerson should be condone! He did not tell the reason for the call; stating correctly “it is personal biz” in other words NONE OF YOUR BIZ.  Please take a moment to read the FDCPA. You Skunk must be an atty..your final statement:“If the harassment continues you may be able to sue to have the debt released as a penalty." sounds just like a man drumming up biz.....you no doubt know that this will never be held up in a court of law. Shame on you for taking advantage of people! Or maybe and more simply you are just a deadbeat debtor or a professional debtor; both making the cost of credit much more then it needs to be!

Call them back and find out all the info, could you have forgotten a past due balance on a gas card or some such debt? Nothing to be nervous about sounds like they already have all your info.

So we had an outstanding debt, obviously which is why ARS was calling.  The collector (not going to give his name to protect myself) was contacting my husband at his employer repeatedly.  I stressed to the collector, a colleague of his AND his supervisor that they were never to contact my husband at his work number, to only contact us via cell phone (which I provided to them in return of removing the work number), and the collector refused to accept this request when his supervisor was more than happy to comply.  We were the most easy to work with people when it came to paying this off.  He repeatedly, after I had already secured payment for the debt with a check by phone, would contact him for several days to no end on my husband’s cell phone.  Even his supervisor could not understand why he continued to dismiss our request.  He even crossed the line by making snide comments regarding our Myspace accounts and the content that was on each one of our profiles.  He turned from collector into a stalker – the good news his supervisor was even irritated by his actions (hopefully).  This was my first, and last, run in with a collection agency.
