Didn't answer, no voicemail left

European accented gentleman called asking for my wife claiming to be from safeway groceries.I contacted Safeway directly and they told me that this number did not belong to them.....sounds like a phish expedition number to me.

didnt leave a message, seems like spam. called even though i am on the do not call register.

called my cell phone. i didn't recognize the number and didn't answer. caller left no message.

I've received constant calls from this number, without messages. Now I know I'm not the only one, but what can we do?

This is SAFEWAY, but it is there check collection center for bounced checks.

if it were the check collection center for safeway, why not leave a message and say what they are calling for?

sadly they are getting more sophisticated everyday.

My son who is permanently disabled is the subject of these calls.
He never writes checks to this store.

I'm pretty sure it's Safeway's collections and not any sort of phishing scheme. I talked to a person to have my number removed as they were calling for someone other than me. No phish attempts when I did that, and they apologized for having the wrong number.

I've gotten numerous calls today while at college and in my home from this number, I have not answered due to not being by my phone or it being on silent. I also never answer calls from people I do not know, I really am hopeful they do not call me again.. or they'll get an ear full.

Also they do not leave a message, which makes me less inclined to call them back and find out what they want. If it is from Safeway then I see no point in them calling me. I have never written a check before nor have I purchased from their stores.

This number is a complete fraud! I was shocked that I had written an overdraft check and so didn't give them my credit-card number. Turns out, I called the bank the next day-and all of my check were just fine. The one they claimed I had over-drafted, had cleared 10 days prior. They insisted over and over that they were a legitimate company even after I threatened to call the F.B.I and report them. Safeway said they NEVER have agencies call for collection.  DONT give them your credit-card number! If you ever write a bad check-you should receive several notifications in the mail from your bank with a copy of the bad check before a collections agency would call.

This is a fraud, they claimed they were attempting to collect a bounced-check fee for Safeway. They claimed a check was written by a company (DBA) that never had a checking account.

These idiots have now called 15 times since Feb 23rd, 2008.   I filed a complaint with Verizon.  Verizon called the 866-558-5844 and whomever answered the phone gave Verizon two different company names and then hung up on Verizon.  Verizon suggested I file complaint with Do Not Call Registry and change my number if the harrassment doesnt stop.

These jerks  have now called me over 30 times in the last 5 days which is illegal.   They are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  They hang up on me when I try to find out why they are calling me.   Hope someone can stop these jerks.

Called our home every night for weeks to speak to my husband. They said they were Safeway Quality Assurance. Finally my husband came home before nine and called the number back. They wanted information from him that he would not give out over the phone and he asked numerous times what they wanted it for. Finally they said they were collecting a check fee of $35.00 for Safeway. What for? We don't have any outstanding checks from Safeway!

I have received several calls from this number with no message left.  I finally called them and they wanted my name, address, etc.  I wouldn't give it to them, and they did indicate they were with Safeway Payment Services.  I called the store manager of my local Safeway and he gave me a different number to call.  It was a 800 number and they did tell me this number was one of their collection agencies.  What had happened was a check was initially rejected by my bank but got paid on the second go around.  They are trying to collect the 25.00 NSF for the first reject.  THEY ARE LEGITIMATE.

They have tried to contact my wife twice saying their a collection agency for Tom Thumb / Randal food stores and asking for bank routing and account information. Each time I take the phone from her to understand what it's all about they clam up. They say they can only speak with my wife and that it's a business call. lol. Now, what business would my wife be involved in without my knowledge. I've told them not to call twice now and have re-listed our phone numbers on the National do not call list and have filed a complaint against them. We do shop at Tom Thumb but probably due to some sort of identity theft attempts on their part they have found out this information. The remote possibility of a bounced check with Tom Thumb needing payment is not even possible. We have protection against that with our banking institution and believe me, past bounced checks do get paid always but we pay greatly for it. I've delt with legit collection agencies before and in no way is their attitude or the business professionalism they present true or believable.

My wife received a call from the "Safeway Payment center" claiming we wrote a bad check and wanted her to verify our checking account number.  They gave her a number to call back 877-207-0468.  They actualy answered when I called them back. I talked to 3 different individuals all with East Indian accents and all had the last name Smith.  Would not give me a physical address and were supposedly in Phoenix but did not know what time it was there.  Would not fax me the "image" of my check.

Lol...let me educate u sir...i personally know safeway & they are completly legit..You ignoring  calls & not complying will only result in this effecting you're credit report..You could  be a fraud victim & not even know cause your to ignorant to realize thinking its a scam rather than ''hey a lot of big  Corp...outsource crappy jobs to ''India''...they are very nice people just doing a job..You may want to contact your local grocer..

Safeway debit money out of my account as well! Late fees!!
Then they said once your late fees are paid you're clear!
Not the case here!!! They kept calling my house for more $$$$$
