does anyone recognize this number?

I just got a call and they said they are the Deposit Account Underwriting Department for Wachovia and they are doing a project for the U.S. Patriot Act.  They were looking for my husbands social security number.  I called my local bank and they did not know what I was talking about.  Watch out!

"Dear Customer, We have not received the necessary information to verify your identity as required by the USA PATRIOT Act Section 326"

i googled the place and the zip code was wrong googled the number and found this

Got a similar letter from Wachovia recently.  Just contacted Wells Fargo (parent company of Wachovia) and they said the letter is a scam and need to be destroyed since Wells Fargo never sends letters to verify personal information.

The letters described above are definitely a scam attempt to get enough data to convince the bank to transfer money out of your account. Do not reply to the letter and give no info over the phone.

I received the same letter a few hours ago via UPS overnight service. This indicates that someone is making enough money with this scam to justify the cost of sending me a 2-page letter via UPS.

The most disturbing aspect of this scam is that the sender already knows my account number. This data was probably obtained by hacking the bank's computer system. The bank should have notified the account owners whose account numbers had been compromised.

I recommend sending a letter of complaint to the bank with a copy to your state banking commissioner. I will provide a copy of this letter to any law enforcement official who wants one.
