the calls are someone trying to call collect from a correctional facility

Wanting to take a collect call from this number

The phone message for this number said "Eastern Kentucky Corrections Institute" and gave different options, accept the call, press a number to hear what the charges would be if you accepted the call, press six to block calls from this number.
I was happy to see that other people were receiving this same call...I was wondering who was calling me from prison and where they got my number.
Now I am wondering where someone in the prison is getting telephone numbers...or how does that work, they get phone time and can just make up numbers at random?

I just received a call from this number, 866-598-7447 and it showed up as SECURUS on the caller ID.  It was a collect call and it gave a name of the person but I couldn't understand it as they spoke real low and almost mumbled.  Said Eastern State something or another.

I received a call from 866-598-7447 on my work phone on a Saturday at 7 p.m. in the evening.  I was not here and the call when straight to voice mail.  It said you have a collect call but couldn't understand much more than that.  I actually called the number back just to see if I could get a clue as to where this call was placed from.  Got a very lengthy message so I just hung up.

Got a call from this number at eleven o'clock at  night. It said it was Eastern Ky Correctional Facility and it was a collect call from "Mke". Now I don't know anyone that is incarcerated so I am assuming it was just a wrong number. The voicemail says that you can block the number so I did.

I recieved the identical experience when i picked up the phone to this number.  they had called us twice in a row.

for people wondering HOW they got your number: i can assure you it's relatively random.  in prisons there is ample reading material and that includes phone books.  They have lots and lots of time to kill, and they are given the ability to make phone calls occationally, this was perhaps one or several inmates attempting to cause irritation of others for their own amusement.  unless you can guess that there's somone you know who would be there or somone you think would know you, it's completely by chance.

I recieved 3 calls in a row couldn't make out the first name but did the last name but don't know anyone in the detention centers iv'e blocked the number out tho.

I actually accepted the call because it does state that it's from a prison and I was like OMG maybe it's someone I knew and they were trying to get in touch with me for help or something.  Well it turned out that it was someone that was trying to get ahold of their sister that owned the same phone number less than four months earlier.  

So If someone calls from there please just think that what if it is someone that you know trying to get into contact with you, OR it might just be like my situation where they had an old phone number for a loved one.  Not only that but it only takes a person getting just one number backwards while trying to call someone and accidently getting you by mistake.

Want them to stop calling my home I didnt give them my Home # and Didnt agree to take calls from them I have blocks on my phone from the phone company and Dont now how they keep calling me collect Iam reporting this Number and the other Numbers they are using to call my home....Here is just some of the numbers these  people are using to call our home  1-800-844-6591   and 1-866-558-2323  And 1-866-598-7447  All these numbers are coming from a Correctional Complex Who works with Jail and other inmate state prisons  ....This company deals with many jails across the US and when you call them And ask to have your Number removed They want do so They call any ways And I have pushed the # botton that states if you push 3 or 6 your number will be blocked from all calls from them PUT GUESS WHAT IT HASNT BEEN YET....

In my case, it was from someone we had been trying to locate.   She disappeared several years ago after getting married - to a man she had to wait for to get out of prison!
Call is collect, expensive, so get the mailing address and continue by mail.   You can not call back in.  Letters and cards are accepted, buy not packages.  The facility is located in Pewee Valley, Ky - near Louisville.
Also, SASE appreciated.  (I assume non-profit is closest match?)

ERROR IN ABOVE:  They accept incoming letters only!  No packages or contents.   To save her money, I enclosed 4 SASEs  - two for her dad and two for us.  The SASEs (plus stamps) had to be thrown out!!!
What a waste of money.  But they did let her write down the addresses.
Background:  She was wife's niece,  and was not the "sharpest knife" in the drawer.   She eventually married someone that she had to wait to get out of prison!  They moved "everytime the rent came due" and were hard to keep track of.   Lost track for about a year, until someone located her on a prison web-site.   Then, out of the blue she remembered our phone number and called - collect.  Unfortunately, some of the phones have bad audio so listen carefully for the name before accepting charges.

I got the call also,  but I know who it was.      I gave the number to him and I am aware he is incarcerated and I gave him the number to call my number.   In order for calls to be charged,  you must have a Securus account set up and I do.

So, you are telling us Justin is in jail, and you googled that phone number AFTER he called you?

Do you know the difference between "accept" and "except"?
Y'see, if you did what you said ("except"), you did not accept, and poor Justin may be cooling in the clink, trying to keep his back to the wall.
