- aaron| 1 replyAnyone knows who owns it?
- KimzStuffThey have called 9 times and not left a message... so I called them. It was some firm with about 5 names said so fast you couldn't understand them. They said they were calling for the woman who had our phone number before us (who has been long gone for over 3 years)... They were polite and said they would remove this phone number from their list (should I be that naive?) We shall see. I'm thinking more pollsters or political stuff... the Republicans and Arnold Swartzasomething (can't spell his name) call all the time anytime it gets close to VOTING time... They were POLITE, so it was probably NOT bill collectors.

- joy replies to aaronI get calls from them at least 2 times a day. It is a collection agency called Northland, it think. I have told them to stop calling, but they don't, eventhough I owe them no money.
- SueI have had people call at least a dozen times. I have only answered twice. Both times I told them they have the wrong number. Then they want to know if I know that person theyre calling about. When I tell them no they ask about another name. I've asked them both times to not call again. But I know that's not going to happen. What can be done to stop these people from calling?

- StuIn response to "Pay up or else"'s post here on Nov 4th to "Just pay your bills and be done with the hassle.", you definitely have the proper mindset to be a collection agent. You must be proud. I used to have that same attitude towards the collection industry, pay your bills and you won’t have to deal with the mostly unscrupulous folks that work at them. Unfortunately, that is not actually how it really goes down in the real world, now is it. I lost my 100K job last January after 16 years working my butt off and have fallen on hard times. I did not over extend myself more than what my paycheck would pay off and never was late on any bill in my life. Then life happened and I was unable to keep paying on accounts that I have had for over 10 years. Now unfortunately, I have to deal with the folks like you, while trying to get my families life back together. Does that "fit in" to your "Just pay your bills and be done with the hassle" formula to "help" folks that had misfortune thrust upon them? I think not. It just fits in with your "how can I get a commission off of this person that I know nothing about" approach to making a living for yourself. I don’t fault you for earning a living as a collection agent as we all have to do what we have to do, but your generalizations regarding solving a financial issue are juvenile at best. Have some compassion and maybe one day when you are standing tall to be judged, you just may be looked upon favorably. Keep in mind, you "are" judging those that have the unfortunate consequence to stand before you and a conscience is a very admirable quality.
NOW, to truly help those that are in a financial jam and want to escape the harassment of folks like the judgmental previously addressed in this post, you can get help by calling one of the government backed credit counseling services available to you. These are not the fly by night, charge your money, for profit companies that are hawking the credit industry these days, but real folks trying to "help" real folks. One is Green Path debt solutions. There is a toll free number that directs you to one of five different "free" debt assistant companies. That number is 888-776-6735. If you truly need help and are ready to ask for it, this is as good of a way to start as any and certainly more helpful than calling the person at the Toll free number in "Pay up or else's" previous post, just to have them keep at your throat for a commission.- Caller: Northland Group

- REXCalled this morning and after I answered they hung up. And I have something to say about the person who posted "just pay your bills on time"
how about you just minding your own business. Ok? You have no idea why they call who they call, apparently they call alot of wrong numbers, or they buy old lists and hope to mine it for pennies, who knows. There is no need to be a [***], and you are a [***].- Caller: ?
- Jayne TichenorI called the FTC comsumer response center and reported these people. You can do the same at 877-382-4357. They are using scare tactics to make people think they owe money when indeed they have no debt at all. I encourage everyone to call the FTC, their own state's consumer protection agency, and their telephone companies to block these calls.
