Some Hispanic scammers in Colorado have spoofed this number and state it is Xcel Energy. If you call it, you get the same recording you would get if you were calling the real Xcel. If you press 1 to report a power outage, you get horrible electronic hold music for about a minute and then you get disconnected. If you press 2 to pay your bill, you get a women with a heavy Mexican accent and when you ask her what Xcel office she is at, she says Colorado. When I pressed for the city her "office" was located in, I got Denver. When I told her I need her exact address, because I don't think you are really with Xcel Energy, I got hung up on. This all stemmed from a guy calling one of our business locations and demanding immediate payment, stating we owed Xcel $2000. Fortunately, the manager that took the call knew we pay our Xcel bills through a sublease and knew I would be able to access the sublease detailed payment info. Be careful out there folks! I called Xcel and told them their recording has been pirated by these scam artists. If I had not received at least a half dozen Xcel Energy scams by now, I might have fallen for this one. Some of these idiots apparently have a brain......
