This is a "senior level" job service. Outrageous prices, persistent salemen, uses multiple names, and they will call and email constantly! Goes by the name of ERI, SET, Professional Career Network.

I have even been called on Saturday and Sundays, and they use multiple numbers:

Could be a scam - I was contacted by a Jay Snow, 877-308-5194. Most recruiters will let you know of available positions. This one seems to want to set up hours of talk time. Goes by SET, & Professional Career Network.

I was contact by Jay Snow as well. I've used these type of firms many years in the past and it seems all I got out of it was cancelled checks.

How could you just assume something is  a scam without checking.  You only would have been contacted if you registered and prompted the call.  My experience was only professional calls, messages and as a client, an exceptional service.  It is wrong that someone can just tag on assumptions about something you know nothing about and call something a scam

I too have been contacted by Hugh McDermott of SET Group and interviewed with after applying for a job on a job board.  I can tell you while I was skeptical prior to speaking with him, the conversation was very helpful and I was never asked to pay any money for my job hunt.  I know there are definite scams out there, but at this time I felt the call and my time was worth it.

This is not a scam unless you are an under qualified, lack confidence, and have no interest in furthering your career. The discussions are helpful and do nothing but help one understand their professional situation. Check the A+, yes the A+ Better Business Bureau rating in Denver to be sure!!!!

When you say your "experience," does this mean that you paid for the service and found a job through it? I a trying to determine if this is a legitimate outfit. I had what felt like a very helpful call yesterday, but I am skittish about signing up for the service given the expense and not being able to find anything about the company except this discussion board which makes me wonder even more about the company's legitimacy.
Please say more about your experience and give examples if you can.

I paid for The SET Group service. In retrospect, it was highly over priced for the services I received. The resume they prepared for me had multiple grammatical errors. You shouldn't pay that kind of money and receive an inferior product. You can pay a heck of a lot less and receive better results.

Well I got a call from them saying I had registered on their site and I've never heard of them and have not registered on any sites lately ... not even looking for a job so the thought of scam certainly came to my mind. It is the reason I was looking on this forum.

It is very disturbing to receive these kinds of calls when you know you have not filled out any forms for the group that is calling.

Total shady guy. After finding your information and canceling my appoitnment I got this totally unprofessional response.  A real professional would just move on, guess I hit a nerve.

Your tone is offensive.  You certainly embraced the book we gave you and it seems that your plan isn't working to well, if you are truthful about searching for two years.

Good luck on your search and please refrain from contacting us again.

Com on, why such a sour response if you were what you represented?
The book mentioned is just rehashed data available for free online across many reputable sites on the internet.  THe videos I was prompted to watch didn't show anything unique about the SET website that the state unemployment site didn't already provide.  I had the feeling that I would be asked for money eventually, then did due diligence research.  Out of courtesy I emailed him saying to cancel the scheduled meeting. I have sice block the number and added him to the spam block list.  I would like to thank you for bringing the scam to the open, since its hard enough to find real opportunities in today's job market.  We don't need bogus companies taking advantage of people in tough times.

Same for me. They said I registered on their site and I didn't remember doing so.  Been reading so many job boards that I thought I may have forgotten.  Now, it seems sketchy.  Where did they find me then?  LI? Another job board posting mabye?

Info provided looks on target but am already working with a coach.  Hoping for a quick call then saying Thanks but No Thanks.

Phew.. glad I found this blog before I spent $3500.  I too was contacted by someone from SET.  While the discussion seemed to be helpful, something wasn't sitting right.  All of their marketing materials (one page summary, the book, the website etc) have typos and/or grammatical errors.  You'd think they would be better at proof reading if they make their living writing.  The videos are very professional and now I'm thinking they were probably paid actors.  I'm going with my gut feel on this one and cancelling my meeting.  I'll let you know what kind of response I get if any.  Thanks everyone for the very helpful discussion.
