I got a call from this number about a so called debt from 2001.

Wanted me to pay over phone no place to pay in person.. sounded really weird didn't do it.

Yesterday I received a call to my house referring to a check supposedly that was written in 2005!.Apparently I have two "charges" against me.  The ck # was 6 digits. I have never had a ck with that many numbers on any of my bank accounts. I am willing to take the risk to see if they will "serve a summons" like thy threatened.

Received a call today saying I had a balance to pay.when I call a recording says it is check and credit reporting inc. But there is no way to leave a message because it says the machine is full ?

just got a call saying they will be at my place of employment or my house to summons me and I should have my ID on me to show!!

got a call today saying that i have 2 felony charges against me and that they will be at my house or work to summons me. lady gave me this number to call to deal with it but could tell me who i was calling. she said her name was chelsey white. called my non emergency number and they said if someone has a felony they dont call you. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK.

Someone by the name of Renee Foster stated that she was calling from the county and she was giving me a courtesy call before she came to my home or place of employment to serve me with a summons. I tried to contact the number provided and got a system message stating we can not place this call at this time. Renee stated that she would be at my house as soon as possible and I would need to provide her with ID.   When they call a number does'nt even show up its all NNN. I feel that this has gone to far they are harrasing and threatening me. What can I do  about this?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I am tired of these people calling me and harassing me about these so called bills. I got tired of it and contacted a lawyer

I too received a call from a so called "attorneys office" saying there were two felony counts against me for a check I supposedly wrote to get a payday loan back in 2003.  They said they were coming to my home or work address to serve me a summons.  Then I stated what would it take to settle this out of court?  They said pay us $200 right now and it will be dropped.  Otherwise I would have to pay them $475 by Sept. 30th.  Sounds very fishy to me.... and I don't remember ever doing this.  My son and husband think its a scam and so do I.

I too just got a call from this number from a man saying his name was Investigator Jones saying to call 766-676-2418 or else they were going to serve me at my home or place of employment and to have my ID ready. He called me by my maiden name that I haven't had in 10 years...so I immediately googled the number and was directed here. I'm not calling them back. If it was a real legal matter 1. They wouldn't call 2. They would know my legal name 3. They would be calling from a direct number, not toll free. Ridiculous.

I also had rhe same call from this investigator Jones. Says he was coming to my work or house. I called and my issue was over a unpaid check and go loan. The bad part is i had a call years ago about this problem and i paid it. just not to the place i owed i guess. The world is getting so sad.

They're a rip off. As a previous person wrote, just asked them for a "validation notice". They won't even know. All collections are required by law to give amount, debtor and your rights as a collector. Once you ask them for it, they get confrontational and start spewing venom. Report them to consumer/ftc.

What did the lawyer say.

I got a call at work and on my cell for a supposed debt from 2005 on a bank account I had that the bank is longer in existence... Same set-up... They would be at my home or work to serve me if I don't call the client.. No legit legal server calls first... The verified my last 4, with my stupid help, and an old employer and address that was way more recent then the employer... The person I talked to said she had never heard of the PDL company that this was for.... I asked for proof and they said they could email it... That sounded crazy... I said to them well I guess I'll get the proper docs in court.. She then ended the conversation quickly and wished me luck... This is so strange to me..

Recieved a call from 866-676-2418 left a docket #, said I will be recieving a summons. I called back and asked to speak the person who originally called me. The person that answered said it was probably from the county. I asked what county and they hung up the phone. This is the first call I have received from these people.

Just recieved a call from Investigator Jones. I asked what company and he mumbles something purposly so I couldnt understand him....I look here and BAM! I understand why....lol...Not calling back- Thank you folks!

I also received the same phone call saying I had 2 pending charges and calling me by a former name I had legally changed 8 years ago. My former name has never been attached the number they called. It sound really fishy, especially since I have never used my former name with my current phone number, the fact that it was a toll free number, and the fact I've never seen any documents mailed to me. I googled the number and was brought here. I am so tired of scam artist! Where do this ppl get our information from?!
