FDCPA violating debt collection agency, all signs pointing to CollectCorp.

"I'm a process server calling you regarding [bogus case number] please call this number back in the next 3 hours or you're going to court"

Don't fall for it.

HAHA  I just got a phone call from this number.  At first I was stressed and I called back right away.  The caller left his name "Michael Jones".   When I called back I spoke with the SAME guy name this time, Franco Rios.  He said I owe money from some old debt back in 2007.  He said they tried to serve me 10 days ago but couldn't get ahold of me.  I asked him how did they do this?  He said it was in person by law enforcement....I wonder which cop he sent out of the 7 we have in my small town?  Was it my old neighbor or the cop I babysat for??  Hmmmm....  Anyway, he went on to tell me that my $500 that I owe has another $1000 in interest THEN another $2500 in court and attorney fees.  I asked him what attorney was suing me...he had no answer.  I asked him what company he worked for, he said Maple Filing Services.  I asked him for paperwork regarding the debt I owe, he said they will only send it out AFTER I give them a check by phone or a credit card number!!!  HA!  He told me that he sees that I have 3 addresses and named them off....I can get that on anyone for $19.95 a month too!  He also told me that he sees my credit report and that I am no stranger to owing money.  I asked him what he saw and he told me student loans.  I said yes I have my BA in CRIMINAL JUSTICE....that makes sense.  I told him that I would need to talk to my attorney before anything further happens.  He asked me who it was and what his name is.  I told him that he would know soon enough.  He told me that if I needed an attorney I could check craigslist then he hung up on me.  

Bottom line is...don't fall for it!!

I  myself got  a call from this company and they were real helpful i actually paid off a debt that was haunting me for years i was trying to buy a house and this debt was stopping me so i went ahead and paid in full and they sent me proof of the debt and updated my credit report and now i was able to get my score up to get my house THANK YOU MAPLE FILING SERVICES.. some people do appreciate your help...

These people called me today too... Regarding a $200 debt from 2006 they said had built $1200 in interest.

First off... If you're ACTUALLY going to be sued and have a judgement set on you they are NOT going to call you to warn you. They want to serve you... If you're waiting it will never happen because you could dodge them.

2nd... Any actual law office can be searched via google or even yellow pages! These are giant credit card companies... They don't use "Maple filing services" out of no where to hand their cases.

3rd... Pay very close attention to the language and slang they use... Last I checked a lawyer will not refer to you as "bro" while begging for his paycheck.

Last but not least... Tell them on behalf Of the Fair Debt Collection Practices act you no longer want them to contact you on your cell... Ask if they have your written mail address and have them recite it to you. MAKE SURE TO ASK THEM IF THEY ARE RECORDING THE CALL... they are aware of this law and are told NOT to mess with it... Up to $1000 fIne if they're caught breaking that.

Bottom line is this... Lawyers WILL sue you to collect debt and you will be served without notice!!!

GAIN is a lying scammer shill. Legit collectors per section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf *must* tell you at initial contact, or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, the following:
1. $amount of debt,
2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt),
3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days,
4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt,
5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor.
If you don't get the 5 disclosures, orally or in writing (you do not have to ask for them, the FDCPA requires collectors to provide them), treat the collector like you would any SCAMMER.
Has the statute of limitations for your state http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-by-State.html expired on your debt? If expired, don't pay.
Collectors generally have to be licensed by your state to practise (collect debt) in your state and you can find out by calling your state Attorney Generals Office. Ask if a license is required and does this collector have one. If not licensed, don't pay and file a complaint.

I received a call in regards to a collection, was told it was a court order.  I returned the call, but was not given any info as to when, where, and who the collection was for.  I have looked the business up but there is no sort of business in the name of MAPLE FILING SERVICES except a packaging and shipping business in Sonoma, California.  If I was this business I be making sure that no one is using may name in SCAMMING others.

I also spoke with these people today.  They called my father's home and spoke with my step mother saying that they had a summons for me and gave a number for me to call, and if I didnt they would be contacting the police.  I contacted them and the guy informed me that they have a summons to deliver and it was filed 10 days ago.  It was on an OLD account that I settled on five years ago.  It even shows on my credit report that the account has been paid.  He said they have no record that I paid and although they have already filed the suit I could still pay the principle balance over the phone with him.  I of course DID NOT.  I contacted the courthouse and they said no petition had been filed.  I contacted the company back, and after arguing with many people I finally spoke with the guy that said he was my "agent."  He said that they filed the summons in another county that I haven't lived in for ten years. I informed him that they could only file in the county which I live, and besides that my mother works for the courthouse in the other county.  Nothing filed.  I have already contacted the local police with the information.  My next step is the attorney general.  I asked them to send me information on the account and the guy said they dont have to do that.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spread the word!!! These people are scammers!!!!

I have a worse story about these people.  They called my former place of employment and spoke with my ex- boss.  They told him that they were trying to serve papers and needed an updated address.  They told actually told them they were with the county court house where I live.  My boss told them that he doesn't give out employee information past or present.  They then told him to have me call and give them some updated information along with that phone number.  My former boss told them he didn't have any of my information any longer(which of course he does, since he called and told me about the call.) and that he thought it was a scam and not to call there anymore.  We need to find out the name of this company and report them to the attorney general.  Does anyone know the name of the company?  I called the number just to see who would answer and the call was answered "Corporate Office."

Rebecca they are calling themselves Maple Filing Services.  There is no other information online about them.  I have contacted the Attorney General in Oklahoma to file a complaint.  I would suggest you do the same.  You can also request information to see how many complaints have already been filed on them.  I havent received that information yet, but have requested it.  I hope that everyone that has been harrassed by these people makes a complaint so this will stop.
