- Jennifer replies to stephI received a phone call from this company with all my personal information and I told them I did not want any magazines and they still ended up charging me 49.90 to my credit card. I called the bank and stopped charges. this happened on the 10th of june and I am still fighting it finally today I contacted this phone number and talked to the vp of customer service and went off of him now I am getting the credit back to my card I hope!!!!!!!!!!!
- Student1| 1 replyTHIS COMPANY IS A SCAM! They use a front company called United Benefit to rope you into a "free" trial period with the promise that you can cancel at any time. Imagine my daughter's shock when she discovered that she'd already been charged 40 dollars for magazines (supposedly FREE) that she had NOT received yet. After an hour arguing with a sales rep (who insisted that our only options were to pay a "reduced" fee) I only got results once I threatened to sue and report them to the Better Business Bureau. They wanted to charge my daughter over ONE THOUSAND dollars to cancel her account and to "repay" a "commitment" to magazine publishers. This company is FRAUDULENT and a SCAM and do NOT buy their products! If they contact you, call the Better Business Bureau ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

- linda| 1 replyok so here goes....i have been dealing with this company since October 2009 and it is now June 2010. Somehow these [***] got my number. i have no idea how because i haven't had a computer at this time hence i had no internet so i couldnt order anything. anyways. it completely threw me off.
i was recieveing a phone call from a 774 number. the only people i know with a 774 number is people who are acciated with verizon. my sisters have that kind of number but obviously it wasnt them because i have them saved in my contacts. and i am the kind of person who will let it go to voice mail if i dont know the caller. needless to say there was no message so it couldn't have been important. so i didnt think anything of it until they called me an hour later. same thing, no voicemail. 2 hours go by and im like ok wtf who the [***] is this, so i answer the phone to see who it is. its some nice lady who knew who i was (but i had no clue who she was) she started talkin about her kids and how this is a new job because she just got out of a bad relationship and she had to fend for her kids. im a sucker for kids because i have one of my own and i knew the kind of situation she was in. so i talked to her some more.
not once did she mention the name of the company because while she was talkin about her kids she some how conned me into buyin the magazines for $39.31 a month. i've been in her boat before i too was once a telemarketer back in 2008 for the Massachusetts Fraternal Order Of Police. i so hated that job. i was fired because i couldnt meet their quota. but anyways. this lady was telling me about the diamond watch and how they have them for both men and women, i was like ok that sounds fair cuz u know x-mas was coming up and i figured i would get it for someone. the lady was so nice to me i cant believe i fell for it. we were cut in the middle of our converation when her supervisor came on the phone and was basically rushing me through the whole process. i hesitated for a lil bit because i wanted to hang up i was like "oh [***], what am i getting myself into?" this guy distracted me in so many ways and some how conned me into buying the mags. i think they got 2-3 payments out of me before i canceled my card.
every since then i have been getting calls from them stating that my card has been declined. no [***] thats cuz i just cancelled it on your ass. i told them that i was tired of being conned and that i had it cancelled because alot of people were getting my info. they told me the moment i get a new card to call them right away. you really think im that stupid. im not giving u another card.
so months go by, i keep getting more phone calls but i ignore them because they are all private numbers. obviously im not gonna answer a private number especially when they dont leave a call back number. on top of that i dont recieve anything in the mail, except for a letter from the collection agency. after 20 mins of fighting on the phone with her and him. i got 3 calls from the collection agency. i finally got my credit in good standing so i wasnt about to get it [***] up again. the guy i was talking to told me i had to do a one time payment of $157.24 for the last few months that i actually recieved the mags. ok i said fine then after this i dont want anymore mags. so i did a mail order so they couldnt get anymore credit cards from me. they asked me if i had a debit card i told them NO(i do but i didnt want to give it to them) they were being snooty with me cuz i told them i didnt have a debit card. it was none of there business.
so anyways after i did that payment a month later i get another collection in the mail stateing that i own them more money so i called them up and flipped the [***] out. i told the [***] that i already did a payment and that i was told i didnt have to pay anymore, she said that wasnt right. after a half hour of arguing with her i told her to give me the number of the magazine company she told me she couldnt do that unless i gave her a payment of $70.00 right then and there. im not gonna [***] pay $70 for a phone number. it was complete BS so. she was getting really frustrated with me but i didnt care because im pregnant and you never mess with a pissed off pregnant chick. so i told her to bring me to court and i will deal with them then.
havent heard from her since until this morning. i got a phone call from the mag company themselves concerning my account. i flipped out on the girl. i told her that i was sick of them harrassing me for more money. i told her to bring me to court and we will settle it then.
i went to my bank website looked up the cancelled credit card from october looked up the magazine transaction got the phone number and called them back (since she called from a blocked number) i only asnwered because i thought that it was a job interview i have been waiting for, i called the company asked to speak to the supervisor, they kept asking me for my name, i wouldnt give it to them. i said you can have my name when you put me through to the supervisor. she transfers me and i get hung up on. i call again its a diff person. i told them the same thing. this time i got her name. she tried to transfer me but the supervisor was on a phone call so i demanded she call me back when she was done. an hour goes by and still no call so i call them again. granted im wasting all my phone minutes.
i got hung up on again. no im severly pissed.!!! i call again and finally i get the supervisor and i tell him that i am tired of being harrassed and that i made a one time payment and that i wasnt suppose to pay anything else after that. he told me he was going to cancel my subscripton, and that it has been cancelled. im like wtf that was too easy. he asked me if there was anything else he could do. im like yea GIVE ME THE [***] CONFIRMATION NUMBER so he gave it to me and that was it.
see to me that was too easy. there has to be something fishy about that. so im gonna let time take its course and see what happens.
so thats my side of the story. hopefully it was somewhat useful- Caller: Magazine Virginia Beach, VA

- DwayneWOW I got F-ed from this company like no one would believe, well, you all would hah. I feel oddly better knowing I am not the only one who went through this tragic experience with this horrific company. I was in NYC when they raped my debit card. I had no other cards on me. I could not access my savings. I had to almost become a bum living in central park. lol. Seriously though totally ruined my vacation. Well gotta go to work now. and spend my dive calling these clowns on the ride.
Sorry everyone. They suck and will get what they deserve.- Caller: UBS

- PaulI ran into the same problem. Got a call from some Magazin Es. They said it was $4.99 for a weekly payment for 4 magazines and 68.28 for a year subscription. Failed to let me know that there was a 19 pay period. So that I had to pay $1,208. WTF I don't have that kind of money. And they kept making the fee smaller. It started to get annoying. So I told them to just cancel the account and forget about the magazines. Who cares about magazines when you got the internet. After that was done I closed off my credit card just incase they try charging again. I lost 68.28 but idc I'm just glad these ass@#$!s dont get anymore of my poor ass money. DONT fill out a survey online that has to do with magazines. DONT give your credit card or SS # on the phone or internet unless its for bank issues. If you get a call from them Just hang up or kindly ask to be removed from there services which can either be right or wrong.
I am never buying anything over the phone again or filling out stupid surveys.- Caller: Magazine Virginia Beach, VA

- BradleyI'm pretty much dealing with the same problem. After talking in circles with these people I ended up signing up for the subscription just to get them off the phone thinking I could just cancel within the 3 week period that they told me I could cancel. Funny, because when I tried to call back, the line repeatedly was busy and when I checked my accounts they had ALREADY charged 68.28 without sending any materials in the mail. My mind was already made up that I didn't want this service. They kept persisting so I signed up with the hopes that I could simply cancel the service and wash my hands of the situation. Instead, they never let me cancel.
About a month goes by and I noticed that they charged me again. I hadn't received a brochure, a phone call or anything regarding what magazines I could be subscribing to or any information on the company itself. They finally called me asking if I was satisfied and I expressed that I had actually been trying to cancel but their representatives refused to pick up the phone. They then tried to offer me a discount on my payments which I refused. They then stated that I couldn't simply cancel because they had already made a deal with the magazine company and my order had been processed (again, what magazines? what order?). They told me they could settle for that 1000 that everyone else seemed to have gotten offered which I refused. They then said that they could lower that and I would pay somewhere around 500. My money was low at the time, but I had just enough to pay it off, but I would have to go to my bank. I told my banker about the situation and he told me it was a SCAM and he immediately destroyed my debit card and signed me up for a new one (what a nice guy).
Since then, the company has not been able to charge me, but they called my house and cell phone apparently to inform me that I'm late on my payments. How can I be late when THEY are the ones trying to steal money from my account on a monthly basis. Since that phone call, I refuse to communicate with them but they have still been calling my house. It's been roughly a month and they call about every other week.
I've tried the Better Business Beaureau but their operators are always busy and their website is no help because I don't have this company's name. All I have on them is the phone number that shows up on my bank statement.- Call type: Telemarketer
