I never give anybody my number. And look at how it says you may opt out by calling the number but that text fees may apply. How ridiculous! - Oh, here we go. replies to It has to be a scamActually, I got the message saying that payless BOGO starts today. There is an actual Payless shoe sale "buy one get one half off" that started today. So, apparantly, this is really from Payless. But, still annoying. I didn't ask for text messages from them.
- WilliamI searched the number in a couple of engines and I see that most adjacent 866 numbers are phone sex outfits. Could just be a common scam to get a credit fee attached to your phone bill. They can have a service where they charge X dollars when people text for whatever information the service is supposed to provide. So the scam is to wait for such an event and mass message, get initial charges from annoyed people. Ignore it, delete it, complain to any body you feel appropriate (I sent Payless a couple nasty mails to make myself feel better. I Payless admits its thiers and you continue ot recieve message, only then would I ever attempt to get unlisted and I would first try to do so via customer service before giving in to letting them charge me to avild trash on my phone.
- FrankNGot the Payless BOGO message too. Included at the bottom of my message was the sender id 242424. I googled this, and got a hit for www.242424.com the first paragraph reads:
VMBC is a corporation located at 8105 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine CA 92618 and is an industry leading SMS provider of standard and premium rate SMS services. VMBC utilizes its vText technology to deliver world class SMS services and is the sole owner of the shortcode “242424”.
I'm a 51yo guy, care to take a guess when the last time was that I was in payless, shopping for shoes, and gave them the number of my prepaid cell phone?- Call type: Telemarketer
- KileyI've received 2 text messages from "242424" saying "Payless thanks u for shopping during BOGO!" etc. I called the number it listed (866-746-5923) from a landline, and it was Payless' promotional answering service. One of the options when you call is to remove any number from their list. I chose that option. Hopefully it works.
- Caller: Payless?

I don't shop there, never will. The phone is on the DNC list, and I had disabled internet originated SMS with AT&T. Something funny going on here. Sent "STOPPS" to 242424 and received an acknowledgement.- Caller: Payless

- DKJust got:
"Exclusive Payless Info: You are the FIRST to know - BOGO starts TODAY, 6/2! Info 866-746-5923. OptOut w/STOPPS. Txt fees apply."
Please keep in mind that hotlines can be faked too. I wouldn't recommend calling the numbers or sending a reply text for removal; you're likely just confirming your phone number is active. - Pat| 1 replyI just got a text message spam from Payless, too.
It includes a phone number which seems to go to Payless, but you can't talk to anybody there.
Looking at my phone log, I got a similar message, with a slightly different phone number listed, back in May. That one says to text END3 to opt-out, and I did so at that time (it's in the outbound text log.)
This new one says to text END2 to opt-out. I'm not sure what they're tracking with the return texts, but it isn't opt-outs. Yeah, I'm annoyed, too. If it is Payless, they're awefully behind the times if they think text message spam is good advertising...- Caller: Payless
