- alisha| 1 replyrecorded message from Miranda Banks, does not state which company she is calling from just that she has sent numerous letters and calls have been unanswered. If I do not call them today, they will serve papers to my employer which could hurt my banking. Not sure but scam for sure.
- Gene replies to alishaSame exact message as prev person got from Miranda Banks. Lady sounded extremely upset in voicemail. I called back and and a guy answered and talked to me EXTREMELY RUDE. Did say his name but super quick and refused to answer when I asked to repeat name. I think he said David? He asked who I was. I said I would tell him once I know who he is. He yelled "Nevermind, my attorney will contact you!" and hung up. Called back and said I have the right to know who he is. He immediately hung up.

- Sandra| 1 replyI reported the number 866-775-6457 to the police department. Completely illegal.
- Thanks AL ;) replies to SandraThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - GeneThanks for the comments everyone, this idiot had me concerned. They are RUDE over the phone. The phone number isn't a vanity number, it is VOIP service and was recently created. I think I will put my skills to the test and track these jerks.
- BobCalled for a "Marilee"; claiming he had sent legal documents to the home that have been returned, will contact her at work, etc. Similar comments other people have heard. Problem is that I'm obviously not "Marilee". I called the guy back, demanded to know who he was, and he refused to tell me. I asked for his address and he refused to give it to me. I ripped him a new anal orifice over the telephone and screamed at him and didn't let him get a word in edgewise. If this P.O.S. ever calls me again, I'm reporting him to the police.
- Caller: forgot what he told me
- Call type: Debt collector

- Kellie| 4 repliesReceived calls from a Mrs. Banks too, she left a voicemail very upset sounding. I just received another call from unknown number. Voicemail from a David James threatening to serve me papers. This is outrageous. Left the same 866-775-6457 number for me to call...very confused
- Gunnar replies to Kellie| 2 repliesKellie,
There is no need for confusion. You're being targeted by a fraudulent and/or bogus debt collector who is attempting to collect an invalid, time-barred or purely imaginary debt.
People are NOT called with threats of being served papers by legitimate debt collectors. This threat is used, in violation of federal regulations, by the lowest of the low debt collection outfits. It's also favored by the purely illegitimate frauds who have obtained your info. illegally. They buy it, hack it or it is supplied to them by fraudulent web-sites that you may have visited.
Threats like this are older than dirt. These types of tactics are easily "neutered". Simply Google and learn your rights as a consumer under the FDCPA. Don't be intimidated. It's very easy. You WILL be able to understand them. That's not to say that they are not vague. "Gray areas" are automatically built in to such Acts. Their depth depends on the "powers that be" that are a majority when they're written. Such is the way of our democracy.
The bottom line is....DEMAND a notice of validation be mailed to you. NOT e-mail or fax. As per the FDCPA. If they refuse or start slurring their words with "mumbo-jumbo", they're frauds or their claims are invalid. Simple as that!
It's not your job to prove you don't owe a debt. It's their job to prove you do. In writing. BY LAW!
Be Safe. Be Aware.
Gunnar - ShillKill replies to KellieThey want to confuse you and have you disorientated so you fall for their "shake down". No one ever gives you the "head up" before they serve someone papers. First, the person would hide from them. Second, the person may seek to do harm to them. So, this is a scare tactic, plain and simple.
- tk| 1 replynever received call from these people but they have contacted my wife and my parents in regards to this debt. have no idea who they are? Miranda banks at this number. what is my legal recourse when I call them back?

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - MinnesotaReceived two calls from 218-878-9163(number shown on caller id); Thursday, 1/2/2014 at 2:32 pm; Friday, 1/3/2014, 1:48 pm---1st one a male caller/no name given, second a female giving name of Miranda Banks; both says same things as all the previous calls, but want you to call back on 866-775-6457----Address shows city of Cloquet on caller id also. - amy771/27/2014 Received first voicemail from a John Walker - unknown number. He claims to have me on his list to come serve me papers at my house, and if I wasn't there he'd come to my workplace. He says that my wages were being garnished, and they were going to repo my car. He left me this number to call him back: "The Regional Group" 866-775-7354. I didn't call him back and googled the number instead. Why? 1) I couldn't think of any reason why I would be served, and I didn't think you'd get a courtesy call before they come for you. 2) I no longer live at the address he said he was coming to, haven't lived there for 5 years. 3) My workplace that he says he was going to come to no longer exist; the entire building is gone. 4) I've sold the car that they are trying to repo a couple years ago.
1/28/2014 Received a second voicemail. No name was left this time, but caller ID shows a Houston number. Caller sounds like the same John Walker, but gave me a different number to call back: 866-775-6457. He says that it was my second and last warning. Still not calling...- Caller: The Regional Group

- N in VAYesterday, Got a call from a man...NO name or company given threatening to outsource my case to a local affiliate if I didn't respond in a timely manner.
Today I get a call from Miranda Banks threatening to contact my last known employer and that my banking status could change. Both messages were hostile and threatening. Also, both calls originated from this number 804-416-8978.- Caller: Unknown *claim to be debt collector
- Carol C.I've been getting these threatening calls for about a month now! First from Miranda Banks calling from 321-574-3779 and I need to call her back with a certain file # and how she got returned mail and is going to report me to the IRS. The number to call is 866-775-6457. Called again a few days later and said she's going to contact my last known employment. They are showing on my caller ID from the same area code as I am using. They have also been leaving messages for my family members asking for me! Never disclosing the company that they work for or what their interest is in me (but they do know my name), just threatening how they are going to affect my"current banking status " It is recommended that me or my attorney return the call to 866-775-6457" Then, another call he's threatening that if I contact him and reported to the IRS it can be taken back! Call 866-775-7354 and please refer to file #: ____ Once again, ______, there is a 1099C tax form in our office that we are debating reporting to the IRS! It is in your best interest to call us regarding this matter . . . .
Then they say . . . "This is RAG calling regarding a possible 1099C tax form that will be sent to the IRS in your name. This could interefere with any tax refund you may be expecting. It will be in your best interest to contact us to discuss the issue. If or once this is reported to the IRS it could be taken back"
Also claiming how they are going to call my last known employer.
Thank goodness, I've been home raising my kids for the last 15 years . . . but this would be very embarrassing, especially since they have no grounds for this claims!! The last few days, a Michael Smith has been calling me from a 321-710-8012 asking me to call 855-228-7519 with a different file # and stating I am a person of interest in a claim that has been placed in my office.
This is the exact Voice Mail I received today February 4:
This message is for ______ This is Michael Smith. You have been named as a person of interest in a claim that has been placed in my office. We have been trying to contact you before an asset Liability search and the person locator is launched. Once launched several parties may be contacted and interviewed including, but not limited to, your current and past supervisors, neighbors, and relatives. It may be in your best interest to review your claim and make a statement 1-855-228-7519 and refer to file # ????!!!??? . . .
I just want to know how to get these people to STOP!! They have found my family and it's harassing. I may have to contact a lawyer and find out my legal rights! It's definitely harassment!- Caller: Not sure
