citibank caller
19 Jul 2007
The caller identified herself as "Vanessa" wanting additional information from me about student loan consolidation. The phone number when called just says, "thank you for calling customer service" and when you dial the extension she leaves, random people ask. It was highly suspicious.
I just got the same call from someone pretending to work at Citibank regarding a student loan, except that I don't have any student loans with Citibank. Glad that this number popped up on a google search -- after looking at this post, I've decided not to call them back, and I'll probably report them to Citibank.
This number continues to call me multiple times a day without leaving a message. When I call back, I get the same message about calling 'customer service' without specifying a company or business name. It is very odd and i am glad to read that others have found this number suspicious. Thank you for your other posts.
This is the first time I've gotten a call from this number. The caller identified herself as "Angela" calling on behalf of Citibank and said there was time sensitive information that needed to be updated for federal loans that they hold. While I do have loans with Citibank, they are private loans, not federal so I knew she was full of it. I reverse searched the number like you all and got this board. I also went to the Citibank student loan website www.studentloan.com and compared the customer service number they had listed. Of course it was different. So I called Citibank's real customer service number and reported the whole thing to them. By the way when I called Citibank's real customer service number it actually identified itself as Citibank right off the bat, not just "Thanks for calling Customer Service."
I didn't answer the call but I did get a call from 2 other numbers yesterday which I didn't answer but also the same complaints like this one. I have loans with Citi but just FYI I have their 800 number saved in my phone, and when they call it does come up as Citi.
This number has also called me several times. And yes they say they are calling on behalf of Citibank. Thats because Citibank has retained their services to do their student loan consolidations. I checked with Citibank customer service and they said it was all legitimate. I went ahead and consolidated my student loans with someone named Jayson. He was helpful & knowledgeable. The consolidation went thru no problem and now i have a consolidated loan thru Citibank. I wasn't ripped off or scammed any way. And the process was easier than filling out all that paperwork myself.
