This is a fraudulent scam pretending to be the IRS and claiming "...the IRS is initiating legal action against "...YOUR NAME..."  (That's just what the ridiculous recording says "...legal action against YOUR NAME." What a farce from a low IQ scammer. Report this call to local authorities and the IRS -- and then block this scammer.

Got a call this morning. Didn't answer. Called back from a different phone and a robotic voice says it's the IRS and to press 1 for questions and 2 for a representative or something.  I didn't press anything but a woman with a Brittish accent answered saying, "IRS can I help you." I think NOT!  They also left a website but it was not Http'ed at IRS.gov however the "gov" was rather foggy sounding so could have said "com."

Well, here we go. The start of tax season and the scumbags are at it again. Got an automated message on my machine stating that " this is the IRS and legal proceedings will start against your name. Something about settling your IRS dues." Call 866-792-2921. LOL! I don't know the IRS anything! I file my income tax on time every year, and they always owe ME!! Nice try, not falling for it!

Wow! Do people really fall for this! I couldn't stop laughing . Since when does the IRS call you and have an accent like this. I have had many of these calls and they persist even though I am on a do not call list. PLEASE DON'T SEND THEM MONEY . I kept them on the line for 10 mins. Figured the longer I did the less time they had to victimize someone else. Hate to admit but, I was having a good time wasting their time.

Yep, just got a call from 866-792-2921. The first clue - she sounded Asian... the 2nd clue - she didn't talk immediately... the 3rd clue - she stuttered at her conversation.  When I asked who it was again, did not give her name (4th clue) and said she was with the IRS.  I immediately told her "Nope, the IRS does NOT make phone calls!  you are scam!!!"  I hung up. they haven't called back yet.

Telemaggoters like this often prey on the elderly and other vulnerable groups. They are based overseas and that makes it nearly impossible to take any type of action against them.
I only wish people would ignore calls from unfamiliar sources.

Just got a call from the "IRS" - fell for it until I looked at this site - thank you all for posting.  She was looking for my husband, not me.  Unfortunately I gave her his cell number.  I was not asked to send any $ - she called my husband and he told her he knew it was a scam....

Call from the "IRS". Had my name and claimed to be an IRS agent but had an Indian accent. Hung up and called the number back. A woman answered the phone and got really snotty when I asked why they called me. I hung up again. Definite scam.

I received this call around 1230 MST on 1/14/15.  The caller had what sounded to be an Indian accent.  The connection was poor.  He said something about the IRS that I couldn't understand.  He wanted to send me to his supervisor.  I hung up and he called back.  I hung up and put my phone on silence.  He called again.

    Skippy in Milwaukie, Oregon
I received a call about an hour and followed up with the Milwaukie (that is the correct spelling), Oregon Police Department.  They have received a few other calls about this number today and everyone is mentioning the same information mentioned above.  The officer and I talked for a few minutes we agreed that these are the best steps for handling this situation.

    Here are the steps:
       1)  If possible, enter you phone carrier's trace code (Comcast is *57)
       2)  Keep a log of who, what, where, why
       3)  Call your local police department (especially if it is an IRS scandal)

Here are few more links that will be helpful
      1)  FTC Complaint Assistant    https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
      2)  National Do Not Call Registry (you can log complaints on this site)    https://www.donotcall.gov/

I highly encourage everyone to cut and paste this information into a text file so you can post the information for other people to see.

Remember, the more people that complain about a number, the better chance WE have of getting the Federal government and local authorities to do something.

Called us three times in three days.   Monday they left a message which was in such bad English we had to listen to it multiple times to get the gist.  It was comically bad - I can't imagine anyone believing it.  Then Tuesday I answered.  The guy wanted my husband, was very aggressive wanting to reach him immediately, and faked shock when I said we weren't going to talk to him.  I said the real IRS would contact us through the mail.  He said I would have a legal mess if I delayed even one day, and I should be contacting a criminal law attorney immediately.  In a singing voice I said we-will-watch-for-your-mail thank-you-for-calling and hung up.  And I thought he sounded just like the guy that calls saying he's from Windows Technical Support!  Wednesday we got the text to speech call about starting legal procedures against "your name" ;^) like others wrote above.   If they reach me again and ask about attorney, I'm going to give them the phone number for the Treasury Inspector General. And press hold.

Early morning phone rings it is some Indian guy screaming he is from the IRS and I owe them 86,000 dollars and the police are on their way to arrest me and my husband.  Usually the police don't give you a heads up before they arrest you. We will lose our house and go to jail. Get bail ready and an attorney he says. Screaming all the way thru. I of course gave him the what for and hung up. But filed a complaint with the Dept of Treasury. They unfortunately don't do anything like go find the guy. I was thinking how sad it would be if you are alone and elderly or just not very street-smart. People told me others have sent them money. My accountant called him back and the idiot answered. He said a very normal name and of course my accountant said no your real name like Mohammed. Crazy. He called twice last week. Why can't we block 800 numbers like we can other numbers.
