- Lee| 1 replyStop harrassing us on the phone. QUIT calling!
- Mike replies to LeeIf this is Van Ru collection agency calling for federal student loans as first poster stated they will not stop calling unless you send a letter telling them to stop. Send the letter by Certified Mail so you have proof it was sent and keep a copy. Tell them you dispute the debt and ask for written proof or validation and also state they are not to call you anymore pursuant to FDCPA law. I doubt you will get any proof from them. If you do you can request they deal with you ONLY in writing. If they keep calling you can sue them and report to Dept Of Edu as a collection agency violating the law.
The govt in its infinite wisdom decided a few years ago that they can collect more student loans by hiring private collection agencies. But the
CAs are charging huge collection fees which is really reducing the amount that the govt collects. Plus these private CAs are subject to the FDCPA so you can tell them to shut up and demand proof of debt but only by writing.
When the Dept of Edu collects its own loans you cant stop them from bothering you. But you can stop these dumbass CAs they contract with from calling you. With collection fees of over 25 percent there is no reason to deal with the CA. When enough people start fighting back the govt will have to rethink its decision to let private CAs collect its student loan debt. Send the letter and help shut down this BS practice!! - cajunI have been harrassed and told of wage garnishment, bank account freeze, ect ect. I owe a student loan and was dealing with the federal gov until I fell behind due to loss of employment and family medial bills, however these collector ask for a payment and I told them I could only pay 2/3 of what they were requesting. They refused and advised me they would garnish my wages for their fees then I could go back to paying the federal gov the rest. FEES IN THE AMOUNT OF 30,000.00 Or I could borrow the money from somebody. Well some payment is better than NONE

- Jagtruck replies to SECTOR-7| 2 repliesAnyone have an address I can send a certified letter to asking that they cease contacting my employer or should I just send it to Van Rue Collection Agency, Skokie, Illinois?
- PetRockI've never heard of Van Rue, but I got a call from this number at 8:15AM and they left no message. Not quite sure why they would be calling me anyway. I'm sure it is easier to trick, harass and mislead people over the phone but I always prefer to deal in writing. I think they hate that.

- beb replies to SECTOR-7this link is bogus....its a page 404 and there is no such listing on the Dept. of Educations website---please post only proven information!
- Carol replies to SECTOR-7They have been calling me 3 to 4 times a day for the last year or so. I have a student loan from 1981 not paid. I have been disabled for many years and they won't write it off. this loan gets sold at least once a year.
- PJK| 1 replyThis Van Rue Credit Collection Agency has not only called 5-6 times a day, cell phone, house phone, work phone, they have also contacted the the Funeral Home who handled our son's Memorial Service. They requested his death certificate and any other information they could get on him. We have been advised that this company could be involved in Identity theft and you should not respond to them or their calls.
They claim they are trying to collect a student loan debt which dates back to 1988, which has been satisfied for 15 years.- Caller: Van Rue Credit Collection

- ec replies to PJKHere's some background information on these vile crooks http://budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/van_ru_credit_corp.htm
- ConnieThey also use 1-888-337-8331. They basically gave me 3 days to re-enter a payment arrangement or ELSE! They wanted me to borrow the money or give them a credit card or post-dated check...They weren't taking no for an answer. And because the Government just uses them as contractors and didn't sell the loan, I can't Bankrupt them.

"Collection agency employees are trained to comply with the terms of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act which governs collection practices by debt collectors. When Debt Collection Service is notified in writing of complaints concerning our collection agencies, we review the evidence and take the necessary action to correct the situation".

Defaulted Studen Loans are FEDERAL debt which never goes away and they have many more ways to get the money. It is always better and less expensive to make voluntary arrangement before any involuntary action is taken
