This company continualy phone our number even thought we have only been in the country 1 month about a 5 year old debt.  We have no SSN, a bank ccount which has no overdraft facilty and no loans (on account of us only being here for the next 2 years and our visa stating so).  If you threaten leagal action they go away for a while but how else can you get rid of such calls when the person is obviously nothing to do with you.  I also agree they are very rude and do not respond well to I know nothing about this person.  They do not listen and kept telling me my husband had another name and had been living here since 2003 (if so he has fooled me as he was at home in the UK with me)Are there no laws against this here?

Said they called from NCO Financial Systems about a 20YO debt under my parents name. First of all, the amount is probably incorrect to begin with. Second of all, there is no record of the debt they owe anywhere under their credit report. Third, these people are rude as can be. We have repeatedly told them to send a letter and we will pay them in full. They didn't have our correct address (they sent to the wrong city according to one rep, to another, they listed our house number with a "0" in front). Rather than sending a letter per our request, they demand my parents' bank account information over the phone - a major, major no-no! They called twice today, 5/28/07, which is a legal holiday. Therefore, they have violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act. We still have yet to receive a letter from these folks. Gee, wonder why? The caller ID has never once come up as NCO Financial Systems. Their voice mail, however, says they are part of NCO Financial Systems. Warning - do not give these people your information!

It is illegal to go after you for your parents debt! You can sue them for the collection efforts. They can only collect from your parents. If they no longer living; I believe that they have until the end of probate for the estate to file any claims. You should talk to a lawyer about these guys so that you can make some money from them and hopefully for the rest of us put these jerks out of business. Furthermore they are not allowed to talk to you about any debt other than your own. You should get thier address and send them a letter demanding that they stop calling you and proof of the debt. After this has been done they can't contact you legally until they can show that you owe the debt. When you tell them that they shouldn't call you this requires them to stop calling you unless they are going to sue you which they can't do legally. If they ask for your name you shouldn't ever give it to them. I have heard of companies asking for a persons SSN to verify that the debt didn't belong to a person and then changing thier records so that it looks like that person owed the money. I was told about this by a lawyer who was familiar with this case. You may also want to write a letter to your states attorney general about them and make sure that you keep good records of what was said and what threats they used to collect the money. This way you will have evidence for any court preceding or to give to law enforcement if necessary if you choose to go after them.

I have also heard of some of these guys changing the names on the debts so that they can stick them to other people because the original debtor is a real deadbeat that they would never be able to get money out of. This sounds like it could be happening to you.

They are notorious for trying to collect on debts that have gone WAY beyond the SOL (Statue of Limitations)

Check this website for information regarding the legal SOL in your State, then send them a Cease Communications letter.

You would think that after receiving the largest Civil Penalty in history ($1.5 MILLION) for REPEATED FDCPA violations, NCO would have learned their lesson. But, according to a former coporate attorney who now practices consumer law, big Corporations like them look at these fines as a "part of doing business". In other words, they don't give a flying fig as to HOW they conduct their business...just as long as the end justifies the means.

Corporate America sucks.

Voice recording on my answering machine, "this is an attempt to collect a debt" etc etc. "Please call Aaron Million at 1-866-816-1066 today." Aaron Million does seem to exist, but why he would be attempting to collect a debt from my telephone number I have no clue. I like the advice of "Granny of 3", and will follow through on it.  In my experience, debt collection comes in the mail!    Gotta love the Web......I might have called them back otherwise.

These jokers have called my new cell phone # two days in a row. Since I didn't answer, their automated system left voicemail. If you answer, do you actually get to talk to a person? Or do you just get the same automated recording?

They call all the time.  At times it was 15 times a day.  I've told them they have the wrong number and they get nasty.  They're trying to collect a debt from my husband, but no such debt is on his credit report.  How do weget rid of them?  I've reported them to the phone harrassment line and even have a report on them with my phone company.  i guess the next thing to do is file a police report.
