- GabbyJimOn Friday, August 24, 2012 at 10:07:01 PM - in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 - or TCPA - (a nice summary can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_Consumer_Protection_Act_of_1991) - my voice mail recorded a 0:02 minutes voicemail message from (866) 822-2556 that was nothing but dead air.
A search for the number (at http://www.dogpile.com - which searches on multiple search engines, including Google and Yahoo Search) finds only report-a-call sites, reverse number look-up sites (vague info until you pay a fee) and sites promoting various telephone services. OH, yeah, and one site where part of a part number matches part of the telephone number.
However, a comment at http://mrnumber.com (a report-a-call site) says this number belongs to http://www.flsconnect.com, a political contact and fundraising outfit. This is also reported at 800notes.com
I am thinking about calling 888-635-3243 – they advertise “Get $1,000 for abuse. Get Free Legal Help” I haven’t check them out yet, but I sure would like to find a lawyer interested in tracking and prosecuting those who violate the TCPA! I have a maximum size list of blocked calls on my cell phone that I would LOVE to submit for prosecution. At $1,000 per award, just think about the money I could get from each case that was won in my favor!
A word of caution here: I have formed the opinion that, since the related laws lacks teeth (some actually PREVENT you from fighting back!), some blackguards actually use the National Do Not Call Registry as a SOURCE of people to call! (Confirmed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do-Not-Call_Implementation_Act – “Known exceptions”). As the TCPA already prohibits telemarketing firms from calling cell phones, do NOT list your cell phone with the National Do Not Call Registry - you are only opening the door to MORE unsolicited calls.
FIGHT BACK! The only effective way I have found to fight back, short of getting a lawyer, is – and this works fairly well – to never answer a call where you don’t recognize the caller ID, let it go to voice mail. THEN, and this is the kicker, record an SIT (special information tone) – you know, those musical tones that precede the “The number you have reached - - “ messages when you call a number that is out of service (google “SIT Tones” – find a site that actually has them available!) Then make your own voice mail message like this – be sure to warn your friends and legitimate contacts: Record the tone into your voice mail greeting, followed by your own voice saying – mimic the phone company – “The number you have reached, (your phone number) does not accept telemarketing calls. Everybody else, please leave your name and number at the tone and I’ll call you back ASAP.”
I have used this technique in the past and it causes the auto-dialers and telemarketers to automatically take your number off their lists.- Caller: flsconnect.com

I have used this technique in the past and it usually causes the auto-dialers and telemarketers to automatically take your number off their lists before they get past “the number”. It may take two or three calls before it works, and they may try again in a month or three, but eventually they stop calling.

If you bothered to read the DNC list rules/guidelines, you've had known that ALL political calls, polling calls, charity calls, Non-profit 503c corporations are EXEMPT from complying with the Do-NOT-Call list/law.
You should realize that CONGRESS would never pass a law that restricts THEM from CALLING YOU.
The DNC is useless, has no teeth! Now with computer caller-ID spoofing, and internet based calling software.. the DNC has become double usless.
Let your answering machine pickup the call or turn your telephone ringer off. - REALville replies to cateTime to call a waaaambulance! before you stroke out, cause somebody invaded you phone space. Fix it yourself, don't rely on Gov-mint to do if for (TO) you!

- TNTThese jackwagons call multiple times a day. They appear to be political fund raisers. Sometimes I'm tempted to answer to find out who they're soliciting for so I can make darn sure that candidate or orgainization never gets a dime of my money.
- MARIAH replies to I-KAN-READWow, you are kind of an a$$. "if you bothered to read"...pffft. I agree with "let your machine pick up" (personally, I don't understand people who answer calls from numbers they don't know either...esp. 800 or 866 numbers) but not everyone can just "turn their ringers off". Be real....and relax, dude.

- KJFI get five calls a day from this number saying that the company is shutting down and I need to contact them to get my money back. My my, this is a bunch of hooey. I never answer and let the calls go to voice mail. What is interesting is that I get calls with the same exact recorded message but the calls are coming from two numbers 855-925-6385 and 855-694-8999. My blocked number list is full so I can't block them. I need to review my block list so I can add these to it.
