Someone calls and leaves messages asking to call back. No company name, no reason for the calls. They call about once a month. My guess is it's a collection agency with a wrong number in their hands.

RECEIVED A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER ASKING ME TO RETURN THEIR CALL. I TRIED CALLING THIS NUMBER BUT NO ONE EVER ANSWERED. THE MESSAGE THAT SOMEONE LEFT WAS NOT LIKE MOST COLLECTION AGENCIES. THEY DID NOT STATE A REASON AS TO WHY THEY WERE CALLING NOR DID THEY GIVE A REFERENCE NO. TO ANY ACCOUNT IT WAS PERTAINING TO.

This is one of the most scummy collection agencies in the book. They will harrass everyone you ever knew to locate you. Challenge them and see if they can prove you owe anything. They are being sued all over the U.S. for unfair collection practices

Is this something they told you by phone? Or were you served a summons in person? If this is just lip service over the phone, I would ignore it. It's not for real unless you have it writing.

Here are a couple recent federal lawsuits that have been filed against this guy: http://dockets.justia.com/search?query=Joe+Pe ... 1&max-year=2008

If I were you, I'd retain a consumer law attorney to look into this matter. Many consumer law attorneys work on contingency so don't worry about not being able to afford a lawyer. Here are several sites that are either law firms specializing in handling debt collection abuse or offer advice and attorney referrals:

Buzzie you are so right!!  They love to frighten people to death with that threat. First of all, they are just credit cards.  If worse would happen that they would actually spend money taking you to court, it would take a while before they actually did it.  Its not done in a day and 99.9 percent of the time they do NOT  do it.  THey just love to say it..  Remember its just a credit card.    Collection agencies love to have attorney names attach to them because they know they will scare the hell out of people.  Its a lot of smoke and mirrors.

This number calls my house two to three times a day. They leave a message for Thomas Wakeman to call them at this number(866-826-4101). When I call the number it says they are The Law Office of Joe Basudo and to dial the three digit extension of your party. If you don't dial an extension they hang up. If you type in an extension another person's answering machine comes on and you can't leave a message on that line either.

law office of Joe Pezzuto.  it is fun to get them riled up on the phone.  when some one answers, they just say law office, not whose office it is.

got one of these call this morning asking for Ronnie, told them he was of today and they left a message with this same numbet and an extension. When I inquired if this was Attorney Joe Pezzuto, which he spelled for me, he said no this is Anthony Burrola, which he also spelled for me.....

Any way I just took a message but have not tried returning the call, anyone else get this Burrola guy?

What credit card are they representing?

We don't have caller ID so I can not verify the number he called from.

This Joe Pazzuto called my house and said he was looking for a relative - a person I know but not a relative (actually my ex's new husband).  Said he was with law firm.  I told him to get lost.

Joe Pezutto, Brian Levy, has been calling me for weeks. I have not called them back and they will not hear from me till I get a letter from them.

My husband had open heart surgery with no insurance, so let me tell you a few things I learned from that experience.

Never, never, never talk to a 'debt collector' on the phone! Everything should be done in writing. You have rights, even if you do owe debts. Be sure to check out www.budhibbs.com for help. There is a cease and desist letter on his site to send to debt collectors to make them stop contacting you. After 180 days credit card companies sign off your account and then the debt collectors swoop in (like vultures) and buy those accounts from the cc companies. I'm not saying don't pay the debts...just know your rights! If things change and you are able to pay the debt go back to the original company and pay it that way. And make sure they agree to put 'paid in full' on your credit report. Education is key.

    Grateful To Guy
I called this firm and was quite surprised to say the least! Yes they were firm about the terms, but I got through to Guy Murphy, and he gave me a %50 settlement! I couldnt believe how nice he was. He even faxed me a leter before he would take my money. Another company tried to scam me and wouldnt give me a letter, but the Guy Murphy at the Law office of Joe Pezzuto treated me with respect and saved me money. Some of his employees were a bit rude at first, but he addressed it with them, as I was told, and they wouldnt even talk to me anymore. They automaticaly transferd me to Guy Murphy! They will settle. And as I am learning most of the firms and agencies will. Guy Murphy taught me how to do it.
    Thanks Guy

    did have my wages garnished
it is a lwayers office what do you think will happen. ignoring a debt dsnt make it go away. it was even ordered in our divorce decree that she pays for the debt. your wages can be garnished, they can levy your checking account. I had to go thru this my self. i borrowed the money from family to get out my garnishment because i couldnt make my regular bills if im being garnished at my job. they found me cause they have my social security number. so im writing this because other people need to know what will happen. i hate bill collectors there rude obnoxious and i agree. but when it went to a attorneys office i didnt realize what would happen till i received my last paycheck. they took about 25% of my net wages
