My mother received a message from a woman named Marie (extension 3037) saying that she was going to file the "incident" on Tuesday.  I have no idea what incident she is referring to and I cannot get ahold of her.  I did google the business which is Mercantile Adjustment Bureau and it is a collection agency.  We had something go to collections years ago - settled it - they sold it off and said it was never settled - so I can only imagine this is that coming back to haunt us again.

I received a call Mercantile Adjustment Bureau claiming that I had an outstanding balance pertaining to a Visa Card that I didn't apply for.  They were EXTREMELY rude, and the supervisor even hung up on me when I called back to report the CSR's behavior.  I contacted the supposed original debtors and spoke with several different departments, including Refund Lending, Fraud, and the Credit Card Services, and none of these individuals had my information in their records.  Like others have reported, they also threatened to pursue legal action against me if I did not resolve the matter.  What a horrible experience!  I am right now, drafing a letter to the better business bureau to report these frauds!!

its a collection agency. i got into a screaming contest over the phone for a credit card i had back when i was 18.  This rude man named dan watkins told me to step up to the plate and when i asked him if he was the damn irs when he said he was going to audit me he said to watch out on my credit report.  dont payany mind to the company.

First we were receiving calls from Vital Recovery Services at 1-800-797-6072 for a Kimberley Wetmore (unfortunately my first name is Kim) and now we received one from Mercantile Adjustment Bureau at 866-839-7277.  They left an extension #3008 and a reference # which was more than Vital Recovery gave us.  I left a message that "Kimberley Wetmore" has not had our number in at least 9 years, if ever, and not to call her at our number anymore.  We are registered with Do Not Call Registry and I left a new voicemail on our phone advising anyone calling for Kimberley Wetmore not to call at our number anymore.

I have recieved a phone call yesterday(5-11-09)from this number. The guy lefted a message with a stumble voice like he was not sure what to say and as he was reading the script. He was trying not to stumble and say Uh,um, and words in that nature. He stated that he was going to put some action early as next week on me and he was giving me to 900pm 5-11-09 to do good intentions to handle the important matter. I am going to ignore him and see what happens. I couldnt even understand the company on the machine at the office.

Please be careful talking on the phone with people you dont know or not sure who they are. Ask many questions to them to test them on WHo they really are. I have done that several times and they end up hanging up and not calling back. They wait for a while and then try to call back.

I have received two calls in the past month leaving messages asking me to return a call to this 866-839-7277 number.  The messages seem very suspect and shady. The callers are male and have identified themselves as Thomas Holton and Dan Watkins. They do not identify a Company name although they did a very good job at sounding official or lawyer like. They first indicated that my "case" is coming up before arbitration and that I should call immediately. The second call said my "case" was scheduled for audit within 24 hours unless I called their office. At no point did they indicate what the "case" is about. I have received nothing in writing or through the mail regarding any "case". Any real "case" that would be audited by the IRS or accounting firms or be going to court would require more definitive contact than a phone call.  Any person acting in a true and official capacity would identify a case by more than a random number.  Additionally they would always identify the company or governmental office they represent. And finally, they would know my correct name. Everything about these calls seem false, inappropriate and indicative of some type of scam. I recommend being very wary and careful and providing no personal information. I will pursue further action with the phone company and police for harrassment should these calls continue.

I received a call on my home phone from a number 866-839-7277 7/21/09 @ 6pm, the gentleman Brad Smith stated he was calling for my son Ryan.  He stated he was from Merchantile Adjustment Bureau and if Ryan didn't return his call within 24 hours his case would be forwarded to Genesee County.  He gave a reference number only nothing about what the "case" was.  He left a return number 866-716-1544X3037.  I do not know why he is calling my home as my son has his own home and phone.  I did not appreciate the threatening way he left a message that obviously has to do with a debt my son owes or did owe.  If I continue to get threatening calls I will be one of the people filing a harrassment lawsuit on this company they obviously have out dated information or are just out trying to collect debts that have already been paid...

Got a call from someone named Angel Luna trying to get in contact with someone in Illinois that has the same last name. Apparently they cannot get in touch with this person and are going through every number that is connected to him, as he is a relative of my husband. I did not give him any information though he tried to make it seem extremely important. Instead I got his information so I could look the number up and here I am. These debt collectors are insane. The return number was 866-839-7277 ext 3012, he said something about a "case", letting me know he was being evasive and sneaky.

I got a call today while I was at work on my cell from Dan Watkins giving me till 3:45 pm tomorrow (eastern time he says) to call back on my case (gave me a case number) and that an audit was going to proceed if I did not call back. He said my first name only and said somthing to the affect of "I'm not sure if you are aware of this, you are scheduled for an audit unless you call me back by.....". Strangest call I got and never received anything in the mail. Was stumped.

I got the EXACT same phone call as Navy Wife. Then I tried calling the number back and it didn't ring.

These guys try to get you to reopen debts that were settled for a percentage in the past.  They are extremely rude and I had one start swearing at me when I started to laugh at him. They are actually pretty comical and can be played like a violin.

I have received three messages from these people, (866)716-8545 ext. 8541, (866) 716-1545 and (866)726-0522 ext. 8270. They were all unclear when speaking the Co name but wanted a  call back from us or our representative. I returned the call and when they answered I inquired as to the type of business that I had reached and they immediately hung up on me. I placed another call and they required a phne number from me before they could tell me anything more. I declined and stated thet I would wait for a return call from them. She stated Good Luck and hung up on me.

Man keeps leaving numberous messages on my answering machine.  Person he is looking for doesn't live here!

They are a debt collection company called Mercantile Adjustment Bureau, LLC.
They are out of New York, and Dan is just trying to intimidate you. It means nothing, they have nothing, just another Debt Collector. Simply send them a Cease and Desist Letter and they cannot call you anymore.

Brad Smith called with the same threatening tone as other calls mentioned in this thread. Glad I checked first. These people sound like frauds.

Tonight I recieved a call from a "Bree" that a complaint has been filed aganist me and my husband. BY law they are supposed to serve you with papers that you are being sued and by whom. Then a response should be filed with the court. I knew this was a collection call I will file a response to the FTC about violating the fair debt and collections laws. By misrespresenting themselves as a Atty or a law firm.

I got the exact same message to the tee, as Kimmie did, what a bunch of [***]!!!!

Receiver 2 phone calls from these people on 12-18-09 and 1-5-10.  I returned their phone call today finding out that they are calling our house because my husbands name is the same as the person they are looking for.  They continued to make sure it wasn't my husband by telling me the last 4 of this mans social security number...is that even legal.  But those of you that do get contacted by these people, look up the law regarding your rights...they are required to tell you they are a debt collector up front, they are required to tell you who the debt is with and the amount, and they have to provide you with this information on paper within 5 days of them contacting you.  Those 5 days will provide you time to contact the party in which the debt is owed and to make sure it is legitament debt.  Also, you can always ask the original party that the debt is owed to to pull it back from collections.  Hope this helps...
