called but did not know person

The caller left me a message on my cell phone and said for return the call at 866-859-7286 and when I did they asked for my bank account number, told him no and that I will call my bank and see what they need.  He hung up.  DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE.

I also rec'd a call saying they were my bank and to call 866-859-7286.  I did not call it back b/c if it is my bank, they would identify themselves in a more professional way with a name, etc.  They would also email me or send me a letter in the bank.  They have called me two or three times in the last week.

Got a call from 700-000-0000 that said it was from my bank and asked me to call back at 866-859-7286. Spoke with my bank about the fraud concern and they were eventually able to verify that it is a group used for collections on items 0.5 to 1 month past due.

After confirming that we had never received the bill, I logged in to review the statement and make payment online (all while dealing with my bank).

Advised my bank that someone willing to spoof their phone number (700-000-0000) on caller ID instead of masking (unknown) or showing their real number typically uses questionable collection practices.
