Got a call at 8:15 pm ET. Caller ID just said Tollfree Number. I called the number back and someone name Brian in a businesslike manner answered the phone. I didn't catch a company name so I hung up the phone. I hope he got as irritated as I was.

The company calling from this number is Alliance One Incorporated.

In the case I am familiar with, they purchased(?) a debt from Bank of America. Apparently an elderly man died leaving a large credit card debt to BofA, who has been unable to collect from his widow since she is barely getting by on Social Security; BofA refused to work out a reasonable payment plan with her and passed the buck (debt) to Alliance One who is now trying to collect. They call the widow's home # about four or five times a day beginning at 8AM.

Update to the above:

Most of the time when the phone is answered when 866-861-8471, a recording asks for you to please wait for a representative to come on the line, at which point the phone gets hung up.

On the rare occasion that an actual person is on the line, when asked who is calling, the reply is "This is Mrs. House. Please have XYZ call me at 866-861-8471 at extension XXXX." Is that legal to misrepresent/mislead who you are when calling another party?

They just called my VoIP number which is not given to anybody and is not listed with anybody.  Well the girl said she was looking for Leonard.  I told her she had the wrong number (which she did).  I am going to block them from now on but I thought I would pass it on.

Be advised that I am well well aware of my rights! For instance, I know that any future contact by you or your company violates the FDCPA and that since you already have my location information, calls made by you or your company to any 3rd party concerning me violates section 805(b)2 of the FDCPA.

Be advised that I am keeping accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company, including tape recording all phone calls. If you continue calling me I will pursue all available legal actions to stop you from harassing me and my family.
