Sallie Mae. Called to collect on a student loan.

Sallie Mae.  Called to collect on a student loan which was not mine.  Common name I guess:)

they refuse to stop calling 3+ times a day even though they agreed not to call me anymore and only contact me via USPS or fax

recorded message claiming to be sallie mae and demanding to be called back within 24 hours, to a different number than what the caller id says

Receive calls from this number, (Sallie Mae) no message, when answered-get dialtone.  Very annoying, I blocked the number.

2 calls from Sallie Mae (recorded message) requesting call back re: student loan.  Called twice at my work number on a Saturday; however, indicated message was for somebody other than me.

Even though I have initiated contact through email and started the process for a deferment, they are still calling me several times a day.

Repeated calls No message left. Waiting for an unemployment paper to defer loan 2 weeks now. They still call EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i received a call 3x today !!!!!!!!

didn't leave a message. which is good they didn't because then i'd be paying for that. but yes it is VERY ANNOYING that they keep calling. 3 times a day??? Geez.

i also contacted them through email asking them for a deferment form they are calling me so many times. an email back sounds easier than 3 phone calls!

they called again on Sunday Sept 28: 5:03 PM.

what is up with them!?

Sallie mae calls after referring me to student assistance.... work out options with student assitance and Sallie Mae still calls.. ALL the Time.. I work the 11pm to 7am shift and are usually asleep during "normal Business Hours" I have to turn off my phones and not  plug in the answering machine so that I can sleep.... I think there should be a limit on the amout of time per day they can call a person.  SOmetimes they have called every 1/2 hour for 6 hours straight.  THANK GOD I WAS OFF THAT DAY!!!!

At 4:16pm, I received a telephone on a Sunday afternoon saying that it was from Sallie Mae and it stated my name at the beginning and during the message.

My Tale of Woe...

Sallie Mae has been calling/pestering me in reference to a loan (past due is a safe assumption) associated to a person known to them as Sarah Brewer - just guessing on the proper spelling of the bonnie lass because, alas, I do not know the fair and I'm sure quite lovely Sarah Brewer.  

Months have expired since their initial inquiry and their relentless persistence has breached harassment.  The first three or four times I spoke to representatives I confirmed my phone number with them and assured them that it was not presently a good number for Miss/Ms/Mrs. (who knows?) Brewer.  We all agreed that it could have been a number from our Sarah's past and was told "it could take up to a week to have the number removed from our system."  "System" heard over the phone from a customer representative as he/she incessantly taps at the keys conjures otherworldliness and abject unassailability.  It's not our fault, it's not your fault, in fact, it's nobody's fault for, you see, it's in our system. ["I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."]

Weeks went by without the calls abating (adding insult to injury, this was all being done on my dime because they were calling my cell phone)so I tried a different approach tacking toward humor. For the umpteenth time, I clearly stated that "I do not currently know nor have I ever known a Sarah Brewer." I then recounted the only Brewers I have ever known:  My first kiss was to a girl with the surname of Brewer but Sarah was not her first name (I had to stand on a step because she was taller than me); Milwaukee Brewers, the Major League baseball team that was once in the A.L. and are now in the N.L. - you remember Hammerin' Hank? or Rollie Fingers with that crazy handlebar moustache?  And I think there is some type of asphalt product called Brewer Cote -- but that's it, that's my entire relationship with the name Brewer.  

Back to reason.  I conveyed that I understood that they are probably lied to a lot while performing their duties -- being perpetually delinquent on one's financial responsibilities and lying to bill collectors is not exactly mutually exclusive. Surely my attempt at humor and empathy after months of calm appeals to reason was to finally produce a favorable result, right?

"Sir, we're so sorry for all of the calls and we understand that this is not Sarah Brewer's number and we will definitely take it out of our system.  However, it may take up to a week to have it removed and you may receive another call before that."

"I appreciate that, but with all due respect your company has been telling that to me for months now. Don't you see that in your records, what's going on?"

"Sir, (always with excruciatingly annoying 'sir') I do see that but this time I had it removed myself."

"So it's gone?  I will never get a call from Sallie Mae for Sarah Brewer again?"

"Sir, you might get one in the next week, but that will be it - your number will be removed from our system in a week."

Exasperated, I terminated the call by thanking him for his help and hoping against hope that that would be the last time I would be hearing from Sallie Mae.

More calls.  They either weren't comprehending that the ethereal SYSTEM could be wrong or more likely, it had to do with some kind of policy: Deleting Information ist Verboten!   Oh, I'm sure that they tried other alternatives; mine cannot be the only number engraved on this account.  This time I insisted on speaking to a supervisor and was told that none was available.  Ten minutes later I finally had someone who claimed to be a supervisor.  With raised voice (not shouting) I reviewed the litany with him and demanded that my number be deleted from their damn system.  At this point an idea occurred to me.  While on hold I was informed that "this conversation may be recorded," so I asked if was recorded and was told that it was.  I told the supervisor that I was documenting every detail of every call from them because my requests obviously were being ignored and at this point I am genuinely being harassed.  He responded by rereading the same tired page of their playbook verbatim.  It didn't matter because they were officially on notice that I would resort to resolve this litigiously, if need be.  

[I know you... were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.]

That was two weeks ago and I have received three calls since.  The one I received tonight prompted this little exercise in an effort to gather/provide more documentation to show the, so far futile, lengths at which I went to try to have the never-ending calls stopped.  March, 2009 will make it six months.   I believe that will be enough to convince a judge to have Sallie Mae handsomely compensate me financially along with an order to cease and desist further attempts to communicate/locate Sarah Brewer at my number. At this point I welcome the calls -- more ammunition.

P.S.  Sarah, obviously I don't know your situation.  It's definitely plausible that you are taking or have taken care of your financial debts and Sallie Mae is in error.  It's also well within the realm of possibility that you legitimately cannot meet your responsibilities.  If either of these is the case, I wish you well and nothing but the best.  If, however, that you are nothing but a typical deadbeat (and I'm speaking to a lot of Sarahs here) who refuses to grow up and accept responsibility while letting the rest of us carry your load - GET OFF YOUR [***], GET A JOB, QUIT FREELOADING.  YOU DISGUST ME!

Called me about a student loan that was not mine. Talked to Sallie Mae; this is not their number.

This is Sallie Mae. They have called on several differ. numbers. They are so annoying. If you see a new number on your caller ID...you bet it is Sallie Mae with a new number.

Disgustingly annoying, and a Nuisance.  Bothering me at home while I relax on Sunday afternoon.  There has to be something we can do about these calls.

Called me, Said my name then hung up.

03/22/09 a sunday----received call at 1:45 in the afternoon. answered call and could not understand the name of the person they wanted. the call seemed to be a computer generated call and the person speaking seemed to be foreign. hung up. this was my cell phone number.
