no one is there - Annoyed| 4 repliesI believe this is National Grid...I am a few weeks late on my bill ... they have been calling every morning starting at 8:00, calling every half hour for 2 hours ... from different phone numbers. I'd say bordering on harassment, yes? I can understand one or two calls per day ... but every 1/2 hour for 2 hours???? Ridiculous!

- Eli replies to Momma BearIt IS your utility company Momma Bear *rolls eyes*. It is National Grid.
- EliIt's National Grid. They call when your payment is late. It MAY be a company working FOR National Grid in collections. Their system is stupid, when you answer, there is 10 to 15 seconds of silence before someone comes onto the phone, so most people hang up thinking no one is there. I wonder how much money National Grid waists on their poorly chosen and managed billing system!?!
- Caller: National Grid

Utility Scam Alert
When contacted by a person claiming to represent National Grid, always verify their identity to protect yourself against scams.
Over the past few years, National Grid’s Customer Contact Center continues to receive calls from residential and business customers who were contacted by phone or in person by individuals who claim to be from National Grid and who advise the customers they have a past due balance on their utility bill. Similar scams have been reported by utility customers across the U.S.
If you believe you have fallen victim to a scam, contact National Grid and report the scam to your local law enforcement officials and the Attorney General’s office immediately.
To help protect yourself against scams, we encourage you to verify you are speaking with a National Grid representative. One way to do this is to ask the representative to confirm the last five digits of your National Grid account number, which they should always have.
National Grid urges customers to be cautious of scammers and offers the following tips:
National Grid representatives will know your account number; never offer that information to a caller
Ask the caller to provide the last five digits of your National Grid account number. If the caller doesn’t know your account number and you have any doubt the caller is a National Grid representative, or if they have any questions about account balance and fish for help, take charge and hang up immediately. Call National Grid or local law enforcement officials.
National Grid may ask for a payment over the phone, but will leave the method of payment to the customer
National Grid will not contact customers demanding immediate payment by wire transfer, Green Dot Money-Pak or any other pre-paid card service
Never -- under any circumstances -- offer personal or financial information to someone who you cannot identify
Every National Grid employee carries a photo ID card, and any contractor doing work for the company is also required to carry ID. If someone requesting entry into your home or place of business does not show an ID card, don’t let that person in and please call National Grid or your local law enforcement - Jennifer lizzathis is the phone of a 12 year old STOP CALLING
- SNational Grid they call everyday 5 times a day. I have been in contact with them daily for a week. Apparently these calls are computer generated and they can not stop them. I do not owe anything! Customer service is incompetent!!!!

- AlThis number calls and leaves a delayed message which only lets me hear 1 second of a voice which I can't even make out what the computerized call is saying. I don't know if it's a scam but I don't pick up random numbers for my own security.

- AnthonyTSeems to be National Grid. Left me a voice mail saying "this is an important message from National Grid for [my company name]" - nothing else. I called back and the woman that answered said she was from National Grid and would take payment by check/ACH (free) or card (small fee). I gave her the checking account info and then asked her a few questions about the account and she said she didn't have access to the account history, I'd have to call customer service. This made me suspicious and made me wonder if I'd just made a huge mistake and gave a scammer my bank info. However I called National Grid at their phone # I know is good (because it's been the same # for years, 800-322-3223, and THANK GOD the person on the phone confirmed that a payment had just been made on the account, in the amount I'd recorded from the first call. Close one, I really felt lucky - it could just as easily have been a scam because I gave almost all of the info. I didn't have my bill on me to verify the account number she told me was actually my account, which is what I should have done (and National Grid recommends at https://www.nationalgridus.com/Our-Company/Scam-Alert). In the future, I will wait to call back until I have my bill in hand and then make them give me the account #, otherwise they can contact me by mail. I think the call from the 866 number is probably some kind of contracted/outsourced collection calling agency, but still, be careful and make them give you the account # or something else to prove it's really National Grid.
