- Cris| 9 repliesThe man with a very heavy Indian accent said he was from the IRS and that there was a "lawsuit against me" for 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011 taxes. His first question was an intimidating "Do you have a lawyer?" I thought it was a scam from a law firm at first, but I think it was another IRS scam. I asked who he was talking about & he had my name right, but wrong initial. The man said his name was Roger Clark and gave the phone number as 866-931-3773 I know I don't owe taxes, and the IRS doesn't "sue you" to get back tax money (they will put a lien on things, but you will know that is going to happen first) and certainly not without at least sending you a letter. But it was still really annoying and upsetting to get this call. I reported them to the IRS Treasury -- Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) 800-366-4484 or www.tigta.gov

- Rose| 2 repliesWe received two automated calls saying, "The IRS is calling YOUR NAME (didn't even try to enter my name in the call, just said 'YOUR name"! haha They claimed to have put a lien on our house...blah blah blah. Did what Cris above suggested and filled out the scam attempt form.
- Mark replies to RoseWe received the same two (2) telephone messages today at 11;24 a.m. and 12:55 a.m. A woman;s voice.
- D MaloneGot an automated message saying the IRS was suing me and I must call this number immediately. Instead of calling I looked up the number on the internet and found out that others had gotten the same message. 866-931-3773 was the number they wanted me to call back to
- Caller: IRS- supposedly
- Brian| 2 repliesSame same. "This is an automated message from the IRS to inform you that the IRS has decided to initiate legal proceedings against your name." Blah, blah, lien, assets, bank accounts, blah. Scam.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - Nubium replies to CrisI too have received 2 automated calls from 866-931-3773 claiming to be the IRS and to call them back or they will put a lean on my Bank Account and personal property. I'm ill and havent worked in 10 years so I have no taxes nor do I owe ant taxes.
- Mary BierbrodtHad the same situation. Exactly! Craziest thing is the years he said I owed for, I had paid.
- NoraCris, Thanks for the info for notifying the IRS. I did. Almost identical to you situation.
- Caller: IRS
- DeannaA recorded voice stated it was from the IRS and that I owed back taxes. The recording only said "your name", not MY name. Gave phone #866-931-3773 to call back. Called back, recording said representative 501 is on another call." Offered a voice mail box to leave a message, but then the recording said the mailbox was full.

- AJ replies to Cris| 1 replySame for me but used the name Agent Tony Foster and also Agent William something. I've been calling him over and over harassing him and he now just tells me F-off. I think he has one line and I feel the more I call and harass him, the less time he has to scam others.
- sueGot several of these calms and when I called back there was no dial tone. Used the call blocking feature from Comcast.
- FredReceived the same call. And received the same message as others have commented below. It's a scam.

- DannyYes, I had a "voice mail" from an "automated call" from the number of 866-931-3773. I guess I'm in a lot [***]...Right! See all the above similar postings it must be a scammer. Just said the IRS was placing liens against all I have: The message did not identify "who" they were calling just said "your name" w/o my name. It's now after 9pm EST and I'll report it in the morning. "Dollars to Doughnuts it is an ass-hole scamming outfit, all is just to stupid to be real. I am the only person in this Country that has my First, Middle and Last name. Just a German name yet rare: The Real IRS would have no problems finding me since I have lived in the same small town all of my 58 years. Just pissers to encounter......
- Caller: IRS
- TimSame as everyone else with the automated threats. This is not the first call from this number. This time I reported it using the link to the IRS above.
- Caller: "IRS"- yeah, right!
- LisaReceived a message to call 8669313773 regarding an IRS problem. As stated above: the message said IRS was placing liens against all I have. The message did not identify "who" they were calling just said "your name" w/o my name. Knowing it was a scam I called back the number. An official message comes up saying its the IRS and gives the website of www.irs.gov . Push 1 for personal tax info, push 2 for business. I pushed 1 and heavily accented man answered and requested my phone number so that he could help me. I said I wasn't giving my phone number and he said he wouldn't help me and hung up.

- Randall| 1 replyReceived a voice from a person with "India" accent. He said the IRS foiled a lawsuit against me and my assets were frozen - this is an urgent matter and so on. I called the 8669313773 number and it got worse - he read me a script about charges, warned me not to interupt said I owed 60K - but we could settle today for $2700. I told him to send it to me in writing and he gave me a supervisor that said - I have been warned, I must pay at my county courthouse immediately. I asked him which county - he said police are on their way to arrest me.
- Caller: IRS?? no other ID
- Call type: Debt collector
- Bobbie M.He told me he was from the IRS and his name was Tony Foster. He told me I could take care of of the 3,00 plus debt over the phone. He said I had 5 violations against me and they will be taking my home, car and business away. I told hime he sounded like he was from a foreign country in a telemarketing room. I told him to go ahead and press the charges because he was a fraud.
- Caller: He said IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- Dianne P.Received similar message today from "IRS Automated Tax Default Line". No clue what this was about. Called the number. Spoke to rep/male with accent. I've worked for the Federal Government for over 30 years, still do, could tell something was not right. I advised the rep of this, that I was prepared to file a complaint if the charge was false. The rep told me he was turning my case over to another, that I'd be arrested in 40 minutes, and hung up! I checked IRS web-site, http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml, reported the scam.
