Offering a free $100 gas voucher if I text the number to find out more. The number it came from was 512-97. They say to text STOP to stop, and to send it to the same number. The texts do not stop. I have stopped responding, the texts have been less frequent.

THIS IS A SCAM. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, tax reduction, gift card, refund, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, insurance, secure handling, processing, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number,  or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money. Report to US Postal Service Inspectors https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

I received verbatim the same message that Ebits did:

You have been selected to receve a $100 gas voucher! Call 86-938-9167 now to find out more. TXT STOP TO STOP.

I did not respond to message and have reported it to the FCC per the information provided above from anonymous replies to Obie.  Thank you for this information, the form was quite easy to fill out - I am glad that there is a place to report these things.
I do wonder how they got my phone number though:

Got a text message on my phone "$100 Gas Voucher!" Unsolicited SPAM. I reported to Do Not Call List, like that ever helps. At least I can block them using my cell phone SPAM blocker, until they change numbers.

I received a text message today on my cell phone from # 51297 stating I had won a $100 gas voucher and citing this number to call.  I didn't call or text back, I immediately went online and checked to see if it was a scam, and of course it was.  Not only have they used valuable phone minutes, but I recently was burned by texts of this type.  If you reply at all, even to say 'stop' they subscribe you to a monthly service and/or keep sending you texts.   Someone should stop them.
