- Jay| 4 repliesI got a call from a number without an area code 774-8283, and they left me a message and asked me to call back 866-959-3156 and gave me a case number to use as a reference.
They were asking for my Wife but used her maiden name. When I called back and spoke with James Howlett who says he works for Palmar & Associates 1042 N. Mountain Ave Ste # B14 Upland CA 91786. 909-303-7021 ext 7021.
He thought I was my wifes brother at first, then when I told him she was my wife, he told me that I was being sued for close to $4000 for and that they were trying to serve me papers. That it was for a debt my wife had in 2009 and was charged off for $610 for a credit card company. He told me that I had 2 hours to settle the case and I could pay him $1300 today, or he would have me served and take me to court and garnish my waged for the $4000.
I told him this was the first time I had heard about it and tol dhim I was at work I needed a day or so to look into it and I would get back with him. He said I only had 2 hours and if I did not respond he would have me served. He was kind enought to send me an email with a bill for me wife in the amount of $1300 and it was dated for today. That is where I got the name and address that I listed above. I have tried to search for the company online and I cant find much. It seems to be a debt collector trying to scare people into paying so the can make their commission checks.
Regardless, I responded to his email and told him that I will not be paying him today, and that I will look into it further. He has my address so if he wants to sue me, he knows where to find me.- Caller: Palmar & Associates

- Scammed once. Here in Tennessee they called my boss, wanting to send a "processor" to serve me, Talked a very rude employee, (I was probably a but cocky myself) but only after they came off that way. They will not give their address, superiors names etc. And they don't want to send written documentation of the debt they are trying to collect, which is real good sign it's a scam. Jay, always insist on written documentation. and do not pay the SOB's with a bank draft, They then will have your routing information.

- Scare Tatics| 2 repliesJust got a call from Anthony James with "County Courts" saying they have a pending action against my ex-husband and I needed to respond immediately. Gave me the number of 866-959-3156 to contact them and a case number. Is it not illegal for them to to claim they are calling from "County Courts". Here's the best part, I haven't seen my ex in years and I filled for bankruptcy last week for my own debts. Good Luck getting a dime.

BUT THIS IS FOR MY BROTHER NOT ME. IS THAT LEGAL OR SHOULD I SEND IT BACK TO CLARK COUNTY? - Tried to serve me...?They showed up at my family's business and said they were trying to find me to serve me. They said I had 1 hour to call them or they were serving a bench warrant. No idea what this is about but this is the number they left for me to call. Scam? I don't know. I settled all my credit card debts, so I don't know why they're coming after me. Pushy scare tactics is what it sounds like to me. Calling to find out what's going on.Arkansas

I received a phone call on my unlisted cell phone looking for my ex husband -- stating a case number and that they were attempting to serve him at an address he left [when we seperated] back in 2003. This was now September 2012 and I had been away from that address for over 3 years. I have gotten a few calls myself from various numbers doing the same thing. I believe they are nothing more then a collection agency attempting to contact people for debts. If you have debts that are more then 10 years old [they can't collect] , look up the info, because apparently once you start making small payments, it starts all over again and gives them another 10 years to attempt collections. This is obviously just based on info. I've read and been told by two bankruptcy lawyers-- you should check it out yourself.- Caller: unknown
- KristySo yeah, my day also started with an incredibly nasty phone conversation with someone who went back and forth between "sympathetic and helpful" and borderline abusive and threatening, depending on my reaction. I was told that if I didn't pay over $7000, I would be sued, which could result in my husband's wages being garnished. (Fun fact: this is total hogwash, as even 30 seconds worth of research will show. Florida is not a community property state, and even if it were, the debt was incurred before our marriage.)
When my father tried to get more information, they point-blank refused to send any information or verification to prove that they even have a right to collect this debt, or that they are who they say they are. They then proceeded to insult his intelligence (mind you, this was while he was preparing to teach a college class...) They told him if I wanted verification, I could just go look at my credit report and follow the chain of custody - which would have been difficult, seeing as how in the initial phone call, they refused to tell him the name of their company! Then when a friend of mine called them, they refused to tell him the names of any bar-certified attorneys associated with them, refused to tell him their physical location, and when he stated that it sounded like they were in violation of federal law, they very professionally started cursing at and insulting him, and then hung up on him.
And now this website, where they apparently feel the need to engage in misspelled, all-caps flame wars where they call people stupid and display less reading comprehension than a third grader? Yeah. I'm suddenly far less intimidated than I was this morning.
At this point I don't even think they're debt collectors, because even debt collectors - even the nasty ones - will provide the information we were asking for. I think it's a straight-up scam. I think they just pulled up credit reports until they found ones with old, written-off debts, and decided to see who they could scare into giving them money. They're relying on the fact that people in dire financial straits rarely have the funds to consult an attorney, nor the knowledge of finances or the legal system to call them on their obvious lies. If I were to pay them this money, I'm pretty sure the debt would not go away, because I've seen no reason to even think they own it. (And let's face it, even if they were lawyers, the level of professionalism, verbal skills, and self-restraint I've seen from them makes me think they would either be laughed out of a courtroom, or kicked out for contempt.)
And here's the thing. If it were just me, fine. You gave me a bad day and made me cry. Whatever, it's over. But the guy knew, because I told him, that I have a newborn daughter and was barely making ends meet, and he still went ahead with this. He tried to scam money from me that is being used to care for my baby. He tried to hurt my daughter. So at this point, I am going to start by reporting them for fraud, and then I'm going to research federal law, and then I'm going to talk to a lawyer. They will hear from me again, and not to make payment arrangements.- Call type: Debt collector
- Risk Manager| 4 repliesI am the risk manager for Palmar & Associates, I have just been made aware of this website and I assure consumers we are completely legitimate. There is a company with a similar business name near us that we have constantly been getting mistaken for, we are currently in the process of replacing our staff attorney but make no mistake about it, we are a litigation firm who specializes in civil litigation against unpaid debts. In most cases we are retained by a third party who now owns the debt. We are fully licensed to do business; however, we are not responsible for any individual writing as they are employees of ours in which fact they are not. If any member of our company is caught showing such unprofessional ism the grounds for termination would take effect immediately. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and confusion but we do utilize a number of county officials and independent process servers for process service. Palmar & Associates is not liable for any unethical practice expressed by these contractors and since they are licensed to execute such acts you must report them to the proper licencing agency. Please also be aware that we have numerous pending civil cases against consumers for defamation, libel, and slander against our company name due to their negative input in these blogs. If our legal counsel determines a valid cause of action we will pursue legally to protect this companies good name.
Sincerely,
Risk Manager

- Wutever replies to Risk ManagerI do not believe for a moment that you can sue anyone on this blog for libel against this company's "good name". First of all, everyone posting here is posting what actually happened to them and and the reason they believe they are being contacted. If this company has employees conducting illegal actions, than the first obligation should be to see about that and not engage in scare tactics to try to keep people from posting information that is directly related to them.
- scammed once replies to Risk ManagerYour company is about as legit as Obama's birth certifcate. You people are scammers. Find me and sue me.
Tennessee is a good size state, good luck. - No money from me. replies to Risk Manager| 1 replyIf your company is legit, you are barely operating within the law, and scare people who don't know better into paying. Anyone reading this don't pay these thugs. The "Processor" on his (her?) way to see you is a scam.
- Buffalo Blasters replies to No money from me.Just as I thought...towards the later part of the month, they change phone numbers. I think it's been about 5 or so now.
- larryI got 2 calls saying they were trying to serve me papers. They left a case number for the court house but when i checked the court house records it didn't exist? So weird.
- Wazoo| 3 repliesThank goodness I am not alone in this nightmare. We were originally contacted by someone with an anonymous phone number, and they said they were trying to serve legal papers and a subpoena on my wife. We were given the number 866-959-3156 as well as a case number to call with to address this issue . Upon calling this and speaking to a person identifying themselves as an employee of Palmer and Associates, it was immediately apparent that they were looking for a different person with the same name. They have a completely wrong social security number, an address for a city that she has never been in (250 miles from where we have lived since 1993), and a list of relatives that doesn't even come close to matching anyone we know. When my wife told them how wrong their information was, the person immediately accused her of lying, and began using personal insults to make his point. Our relationship with this organization has gone downhill from there. My wife and I have had a series of no less than five phone calls trying to put them on the right track for whoever they are looking for. In each of these, they have been very, very, VERY interested in serving my wife legal papers and beginning wage garnishments. Curiously, they have shown no interest whatsoever in informing us of what this bill is, who it is owed to, or the amount owed. For all I know, we are arguing over some waitress at Denny's who thinks her tip should have been larger. Were they a legitimate or competent bill collecting firm, this would have been a major point of discussion. They have been rude, insulting, harassing, demeaning, and annoying to degrees that shock even me, and I work at a prison. However they have not made any legitimate attempt to collect a debt by informing us of what that debt is.
Based on this, I am beginning to believe that this organization is an elaborate hoax. From where I stand so far, they exist only as a place where irritating vermin congregate to get a rise out of how many people they can plague with their poisonous repartee. If anyone has actually been served legal papers by these idiots, and not just threatened, I would truly like to know. Likewise, if things here change, I will update this website as soon as things become clearer. Thank you for your time.- Caller: Palmer and Associates

- Anon Hot ChickPalmer and Associates. Twice they said they would "have someone in my area" to subpoena me and twice haven't done so. Funny since my house is quite easy to find. Clearly they're full of hot air and are just hoping they can find someone stupid enough to just pay them without asking questions.
I'll update if they ever have the balls to show up. I doubt it. They sound like a bunch of pitiful, dickless asshats who can't feel like men unless they yell at women and old people over the phone. They're pathetic losers. Ignore them.- Caller: Palmer and Associates
