    I really don’t understand why I keep getting all these calls. Every time I speak with a representative, they don’t tell me anything. I just wanted the calls to stop. So I got free help from a man named chris. Shortly after I spoke with him, the calls did stop. You can call him too, his number is 855-672-1988.

    I have been getting calls from this number. I do owe the debt and I have tried to set up payments, but they wont accept my payment amount. They have been discussing this matter with the employees that answer the phone at my work, which I feel thay shouldnt be able to do.  They now say they are going to serve me papers for the debt to be settled in court. Why would they do that instead of accepting the payments I can make?  They seem to be shady in the methods they are using.

    } Why would they [threaten suit] instead of accepting the payments I can make?

    Because the collectors think scaring the piss out of you will get them paid faster than actually proving you owe. So far it seems to be working.

    If they could show you proof of claim, would they not rely on that rather than hostile remarks? Blabbing to your coworkers and making empty lawsuit threats are illegal behavior per federal and state debt collection laws. Anyone at your workplace can halt the calls there on demand. STOP TRYING TO PAY and start disputing these goons! Then sue them for relief based on what I'm sure will be many other violations.

    866-976-9501 Is the number, for a Company called Energy Assets; Nice name for a company of SCAMMERS.  Theses people are the group that got a hold of a bunch of VISA Numbers(including check/debit cards), Names; and SSA Numbers. They hope you will give them, your date of birth, your address; your banking information; and passwords.

    DON'T DO THAT, JUST ADD THEM TO YOUR DO NOT CALL LIST; WITH YOUR PHONE COMPANY OR THE NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    First call today. Asked for me by my former married name. I explained I'd been divorced for a decade. The man then began to tell me that there were two criminal cases against me (what a joke) and so I asked for the name of the company or attorney (again, what a joke) he was calling from so I could give this information to my attorney because I knew that this was a debt collector, and the debt belonged to my ex. The rep said, "A bankruptcy attorney can't help you." I said, "It's not a bankruptcy attorney, it's a criminal attorney. Now give me your information."
    The man began to shout (really and truly) that I needed to "pay attention" to him -- and I said, "Now you're just harassing me." I hung up.

    Called and told me they were going to freeze my bank accounts. Told me I had an old debt for a bank I've never used for credit, they were quick to back track and name a couple other credit companies trying to snag me, problem was I've never had credit cards with 2 of the 3 names they said. I hung up and they haven't called since. As a side note the company they said was going to seize my bank account sent me a credit card offer this past week.

    Got a message today from "Caitlin Reed" about "a complaint filed against (my) name and Social Security number." She said I had 48 hours to call her back at a 585 area code number to "address the matter at hand." Sounds like a total scam to me. Any real legal matter shows up as a printed document in the mail. I know I haven't done anything illegal or offended anyone, and my credit rating is good.

    I have received 25 phone calls from this number in the past month. I have no outstanding debts or problems of any other sort. Call these slimy SOBs and tell them to stop calling you.  They are just trying to hook people into some kind of scam.  I wish their call center in India would blow up when they dial my number, but they do speak better English than most citizens of Detroit...and at least they have jobs.

    These people called asking for my sister saying she owed some debt that I had already paid off for her. I asked them for their information and they wouldn't give it to me. They even got mad that I was asking for their information. That's how I know they are scammers. Ridiculous!

    I don't believe they're allowed to call you at work.  In fact, you can take them to court and -- most likely -- win a judgement equal to or greater than what you owe.

    There is a book out on what to do.  I've not read it and so won't give its name, but a Google or Amazon.com search should help you find it.

    I also got a phone call from them today looking for someone who doesn't live here.

    They are asking for  in formation about someone they must believe I know. They call me every week day all times, day or night. Very rude and they scream over my comments to drown me out. I have had enough of their crazy activities.

    REceived a call from these clowns for the millionth time. Finally, little Miss. Ashley put me with her boss. Matt, said that he was a specialist at helping with IRS Liens. I explained that what was owed to the IRS was paid in full in 2007 and they are stuck on stupid. Even explained how their records were screwed up and how they just keep kicking the can down the road. I explained that I wasn't about to pay $5,000.00 for services where there was no guarantee of success. when I asked why they used a fictituous Caller ID he blamed it on my phone system!!! Hey Matt, you idiot!!! That is not how it works.

    Then I explained that I knew more about Taxpayer Rights and such and he got a bit of over-load. Especially when I started mentioning the names of my Congressman and requesting a Congressional Inquiry. How we had recorded conversations with IRS Officers, copies of documentation, and the like. Worse yet, we have even invited an of our records to prove them wrong. Then he went further on with his non-sense and diatribe. Again, I said that the caller ID didn't have a company name. Why?

    I am frustrated, however, not STUPID. I was born at night, but it wasn't last night!!! I explained that I knew my rights, and the law and the facts. All of which every IRS person I have hit with the facts and documents, they head for the tall grass. When in doubt, go POLITICAL!!! Compile your documentation, learn the Rules and Guidelines for IRS Collection Officers/Agents and throw the book at them. If someone doesn't end up filling a vacancy on the unemployment line, the next 6 to 9 months of answering questions will be a living HELL for THEM!!!

    He explained how an IRS Officer or Agent will come to my office. Stated that I've been there and done that. They won't come visit me any more. Why?  Maybe because my office mate and business associate is a Criminal Defense Attorney, and that the next time a cute Little Missy is sent out to collect money that they cannot prove is owed, she may find more trouble than her supervisor anticipated. Then when I asked just what their success rate was he move on to other topics.

    Long story short, He became frustrated with me and actually HUNG UP!!! Facts are, if my life were going to be as miserable as he stated, it would have begun a long time ago, not sever (7) years later. He doesn't think I know about the Statute of Limitations regarding IRS tax collection procedures. They DO exist and they just don't want you to know more than them. Just a third rate, third party scam attempting to collect monies from you.

    Victoria left her phone number for me to call her sounded very pleasant but I'm sure if we spoke in person she wouldn't be pleasant at all. From other comments this appears to be a scam. Don't give them any info and tell them not to call at work. Ask for debt validation in writing.  Better yet ignore them. Program there calls to go to voice mail or on iPhone set silent ring tone.
