Got a call from a man with a foreign accent, stating he was calling from the Department of Justice. I called this number back and the same gentleman answered. Said he was with the Fraud Department in Washington DC. He knew my name without me having to give him any information. My name doesn't show up on Caller ID. I haven't committed Fraud, but I imagine I would get a letter rather than a phone call if it actually were the Fraud Department from the DoJ in DC??? Im thinking collection agency who doesn't recognize that there are laws involved when attempting to collect a debt... or a scam... possible identity theft attempt.

I received the same call from 1-866-978-8048 and i missed the call with a 4 second voicemail of just papers moving.  So i called it back asking who it was and they kept asking for my name and said they are from the US department of justice fraud department calling about people who entered a publishers clearinghouse sweepstakes.  I advised him that i never entered anything of the sort and he abruptly hung up on me.  I reported this call to the Federal trade commission.  They also knew my name and kept transferring me to other people looking up my information.

I received a phone call from an individual using (866) 978-8048 telling me that there was a package
with my name on it worth six figures . . . . I told him that it was just a scam. The person hung up immediately.
I was worried about any possible use of my phone number after that call. I am not sure what the providers of these phone numbers might be doing and their own involvement in scams.
The minute I called the person out as a scam they hung up. The use of these numbers for illegal purposes
is shameful and should be stopped.

I just received a call from this number 1-866-978-8048. They had my name and said they were from the US Justice Dept and that there was a package they received from Dallas Texas and was sent to them from the JFK Airport. They said something about a clearinghouse and a check for $873,000.  I didn't give them any info and told them I have nothing to do with any package like that and they can send it back. I should've looked up the number before I talked to them and I would've seen these posts. This is a scam and they are hoping someone stupid will give them their address and other info. This is crazy, now they are using the US Justice Dept. I will report this also.

I recieved a phone call from 866-978-8048 an hour ago.  The man calling had a very thick Indian accent.  He left me a voice message.  The message said his name (which I couldn't understand), phone number and that he was calling from the Department of Justice.  I immediately thought this was some type of scam and looked online.  Low and behold...  What has our world come to?  So sad!!
