Came running out of my favorite room of the house, where I was reading the Sears catalogue, to learn that the the "Key" to my Microsoft PC had expired and I had to call some number to get it turned back on. Since I've had a Mac for years, I guess I can go back in and read about gas grills.

Robot caller about Microsoft key had expired. Wanted me to call 1-866-978-8422. Not a valid number. Was going ask which of 10,000 machines is the issue here at work.  LoL.

same here. caller id . said 866-978-8479 tried calling this #, dead line....left same message on my machine to call back
866-978-7722......didn't call back that one.

I have received several calls from 1-866-978-8479 saying in a woman's robotic voice they are calling from Microsoft Corporation to tell me my Microsoft Windows license key has been expired in my computer and Microsoft has stopped all services in my computer. They ask you to call back to 1-866-978-7722 to fix the problem. Of course this sounds like a fraud to me because Windows OS license keys do not expire, unless it was issued for beta testing which is not the case when you buy a PC. Also, if your Microsoft OS license had expired, your PC will throw you an error message right when you turn it on asking to enter a valid one or reinstall. If you are still in doubt of the status of your OS license, go to Control Panel/System and Security/System and check the Windows activation section. It should said "Windows is activated" and show the "genuine Microsoft software" logo.
