Received a call yesterday and today from this number. This ominous pre-recorded message was left on my voicemail and repeated twice...

"You are notified that your case file has been released to final processing for non-compliance. A case attached to your name and social security number has been expedited for further action. Contact this office immediately!"

Seems like a fishing scam to me, as anything legitimate would have addressed me by name, left their business name and wouldn't have been a pre-recorded message. Needless to say, I won't be calling back or answering their calls.

Claim they work for some attorney or credit company sending to law to my home looking for someone. They had all my vital information when I spoke with them and continue to keep calling threatening me. When I call them a scam they hang up but always call again.

This doesn't say their name clear, first called asking for someone else now asking for me. They say the police is coming to my home or work, but they never say why. When asked for them to quit calling they continue. The next time they had vital information which I don't feel they should have. So I tried returning the call and they just hang up. This is becoming a problem.

Hi, it's James again.  They called today and left a voicemail about being notified that my case.etc, etc,etc......  Since I was the first one they called, shouldn't I win a prize or something?  Maybe I should set up call forwarding and use the police departments number as the receiving number? This is a burner account and this is the only number that calls so why not?

Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  DIME  until the debt is validated.

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.

    If they are bothering you,

    Report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection  (Threatening criminal prosecution to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Act)

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money,  tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

Have been calling my family members making threatening statements but never actually call me anymore because the last time I spoke with them I called them out. Hmmmm? Got my attorney on the case. Ask them to send you a document confirming the alleged debt via US mail. And just as an FYI, when you get subpoenaed to court, no one calls you about it. Trust me, I've been to court enough times to know. This company also identifies themselves as "Smith & Associates" out of Chicago. So I called the real Smith and Associates, they're an accounting firm that does not practice any type of collection tactics. In fact, the owner told me they are now starting to operate under a different name as a result. I can't confirm or deny, but my attorney bet the last dollar in his pocket that this is a debt scamming operation.

After more research, I was able to locate the origin of the call. I traced it back to a company called Bandwidth Com Clec. From what I can tell Bandwidth is VOIP provider and there have been many accusations that this company is facilitating phone scam operations. I filed a complaint with the FCC. Thats really all you can do.
