- Amy| 1 replyThis Indian man called over and over promising to give me a 2000. loan if I paid a 100. processing fee and then increased the amount to an additional amount of 199. in effort to get the loan to go through. When I called this man out on his dishonesty, he asked me to get the money from family and friends and then he would deposit the loan. When I failed to comply with his request, the man claimed that he was withdrawing my loan request and would charge me 100.00 monthly from my account for the next 22 months. I am so disappointed that I fell for this man's lies. Should have caught on sooner to the scam when the man kept pressuring me and giving me deadlines, while at the same time promising that all was legit.
I am extremely upset that there are people out here doing these things to people.... My fault for even considering that it could be legit...- Caller: "One Hour Loan company"
- Amy| 2 repliesThis so called company promised to give me a loan if I placed 100. on a green dot card and then as soon as this step was complete, the man on the phone took the 100. processing fee, promised to deposit the 2,000. and then called back stating that the deposit couldn't go through until he bumped up my credit score and would need an additional 199. When I became upset and asked to call the whole thing off, the man got pushy, asked me to find the money from family and friends and promised the loan within 5-7 minutes. When I could not comply, the man became rude and left a message on my phone stating that I would have to pay 100.00 a month anyway since I was not going through with his request. I am extremely upset with myself for considering that this transaction was legitimate and am furious that there are people out there making a living off of robbing people of their money by lying to them and using coercive power tactics. I am a single mother of two and feel very violated.

- Slim replies to AmyRead this:
"It is illegal for companies doing business by phone in the U.S. to promise you a loan or credit card and ask you to pay for it before they deliver."

If you or a friend need a loan, you really should read this:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0153-choosing-credit-counselor
In fact, the more you need the money, the more urgent it is to read that information!
Protect yourself!
Recognize that NO legitimate company is going to offer you a loan, without their doing some background / credit checks on you, and they WILL generally need a snailmailed, signed contract.
If you or a friend fell for the scam, please try to educate your other friends. The only way to stop these scams is to cut off their source of money! - Amy replies to DeVonne K.I feel your pain and very upset myself about this happening! I hope that someone puts a stop to this horrible act! So sorry for your loss...

Things to remember about loans offered by phone or e-mail:
Loans
1. No reputable lender will lend you money over the phone.
2. No reputable lender will lend you money by e-mail
3. On-line lenders are nothing more than conduits for another loan scam.
4. Advance fees for loans are always illegal. At least in most American states.
5. If you want to borrow money, go to an established brick and mortar lender that has been around awhile.
6. If you receive a call from someone with an Indian accent either a. threatening you or b. offering you something, you know it’s a scam and you should hang up immediately.
7. These people are predators, the calls are not random, they have information that they have bought from various sources and know your financial history. If you have ever taken out a pay-day loan, they have all your information. They know who they are calling. They like to pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and sometimes members of the immigrant community. Also, those who might be in financial difficulty.
