- JackThat number just called my cellphone and left a blank voicemail.
- Amber| 1 replyCalled me claiming that he worked with Windows software and that there was a virus on my computer. Wanted to screenshare in order to fix the problem, but could not provide what my name was, and also claimed to work with another company that I think was called Wiktech, but my virus protection is warning me to not go on their site, so.... probably not a trustworthy person.
- AttilaHooper replies to AmberJust got the call from, 'Risktek ' ? 875-284-8699 Told me I had errors on my windows computer when using social media. When pressured, he hung up. Said call was from Las Vegas but I imagine it's pro'ly VOIP ISP being used by Indian scammers. Sounded like a very busy call center in the background. Filed with www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
- p'odLame dead air. Blocked!
- BoScammer, wanted to fix virus issue with my computer so we played games for a while and he got upset after several attempts to access it. He asked what kind of computer it was and I told him it was my cell phone. He hung up 👺👺👺😹😹
- LindaI never answer the phone when it is a number that I do not recognize, I have an answering machine so if this call is so important why do they never leave a message (and yes my phone is on the Do Not Call Registry, for what that's worth)
- KRISTINThis number just called and left a voice mail. It sounded like he was around a lot of people and was speaking a different language.
- ScottCalled, left no message. Caller ID reads" Name Unavailable"
- GaryIndia decent male said he was calling everyone who used windows and wanted to help me. He tried to get into my computer via me using CTRL+WINDOWS FLAG+F so he could take control of my computer. I hung up and he tried to call me back several times. Lots of noise and other people talking in background.
- Sam| 1 replyI actually let the Indian guy get on my computer I don't know why I let the guy check for malware or spyware when he wanted to collect 119 to protect my computer for life I said No he got mad. Keep calling me back. I didn't give him my credit card but he prob got everything he needed because I gave him control of my computer. I have an appointment with apple genius today to make sure he isn't still attached to my computer. I also took out a policy for identity theft. I hate myself for answering the phone.
- Caller: No name on called ID
- Slim replies to Sam>> I actually let the Indian guy get on my computer <<
Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
8. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you
9. Plug in the cables only AFTER all the above have been done
10. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and chance your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
