Missed call from an unknown caller.  Did a reverse lookup and found no results, did a Google search on the phone number and came to this site.  I learned this is a Jamaica area code and I suspect its fraudulent in some form or fashion.

Update: I listened to the message and I was "surprised" to learn I got a call from Tom who claimed he had a certified check from Publisher's Clearing House in my name for the amount of $950,000 that had to be handled today.  I am pretty sure all I need to do is give them my checking account number and social security number in order to release the funds and be on my way to happy land.

    This is absolutely a fraud.

Got the same call today. "Tom Parker" has a check for ME for the same amount.  I want this little worm to deliver it to me...so I can thank him personally. Just take the gas money outta my big ol' check. Scammers should be publicly flogged.

Today (2014-02-03) my voice-mail box was called by "Tom Parker" from "the Publisher's Clearing House" to deliver to me a "certified cashier's check written from the Bank of America for 950,000 U. S. Dollars".  The call raises numerous red flags.  (i) I never enter PCH Sweepstakes.  (ii) The check has to be delivered "today".  (iii and iv) The caller will deduct the tax; translation: to receive my $ 950,000, I must send a check to the caller for some innumerable thousands of "U. S. Dollars" (a term for dollar used outside, not inside, the U. S.).  (v) The caller's "toll-free number", viz, 876-593-4162, is not from a toll-free area code, but from a Jamaican area code.  In fact, the call was made from 876-289-8068.

I got the same phone call today claiming to be from publishers clearing house with a certified check for me and wanted to know when I would be home.  I told him he could deliver it to my job which is a Law Enforcement agency and he hung up on me. LOL

DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER BACK!

    1) The call was from a scammer, trying to entice you to send money
    2) If you return the call, it will cost you money!  (Keep reading)
    3) The 876 (Jamaica) prefix is VERY frequently used by scammers, and WILL cost you money if you call it back and don't have free international calling.

Some area codes are not toll-free numbers and calls from any other area code are billed at international long distance rates.

Some curious people return the call and will immediately be charged $19.95 for an international call fee and an additional $9-per-minute charge, according to a news release from the BBB.

Here is a list of some area codes that will be billed as international calls:

    242 Bahamas
    246 Barbados
    264 Anguilla
    268 Antigua
    284 British Virgin Islands
    345 Cayman Islands
    441 Bermuda
473 Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique
    649 Turks and Caicos
    664 Montserrat
    758 St Lucia
    767 Dominica
    784 St. Vincent & Grenadines
    809, 829, 849 Dominican Republic
    868 Trinidad and Tobago
    869 St. Kitts & Nevis
    876 Jamaica

I don't worry, I let my co-workers listen and we all had a good laugh. Hence all the quotations in my message. I wanted to post in case other people got calls today like me.

These people just called my office phone!! I actually did enter the PCH sweepstakes a couple years ago. He had an accent and kept asking me what time I would be home because "the PCH delivery team is already in my state". I hung up.

How bout calling the Jamaican authorities or sending Bobo after them?  I have Bobo's number in Jamaica.

Local police and the Feds do nothing in this country about this sort of scam.

I had a missed call last week.  No message and a missed call today that said it was "David Mar" from Publishers Clearing House PCH to let me know I had a certified cashiers check that had to be delivered today and I should call back to a toll free number 876-593-4162.  Oh and he said Thanks and have a blessed day.  Scammers telling you to have a blessed day.
I believe they will have to deal with someone higher than any feds or POPO.

Had a call today from this number. Since I don't know anyone in Jamaica I didn't answer and let my voice mail catch it. Unsure of the person's name since I could barely understand them. Claimed to be Publisher's Clearing House and that they had a certified check for me that must be delivered in the next 3 hours. Total scam, do not return the call or send these people anything.
