- Slim replies to steve fThings to believe:
• There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
• If it sounds (or looks) too good to be true, it probably is.
• You have not won big bucks from a benign benefactor, a pot of pesos from PCH, dinero from a doctor, a car from a caller or a grant from a gracious government <<<<<<<<<<<<<
• The tooth fairy really does not exist
• Everything you read on the internet is not necessarily true.
• It is illegal to ask for money for a loan or prize, before awarding the loan or prize!
• "Free Trips" are loaded with mandatory & costly extras, and you usually must give them your card number after listening to a loooong spiel at a hotel.
• Microsoft or one of their agents did NOT cold call you to fix your computer.
• The moon is not made of green cheese.
• The IRS will snailmail you, rather than phone you, if there is a problem.
• Jackalope milk is not an aphrodisiac.
• If you "green dot", MoneyGram or Western Union money to a scammer, the money is gone.
• You should beware of Greeks bearing gifts, specially if the gift is a wooden horse with termites.
• 876 is NOT your lucky number, and it will cost you money to call that area code!

- Steve FMy son received a call from Lamebrain (aka Mr. Shelby) about winning $9.2 m in the PCH Sweepstakes. After I advised my son to end the call mid-stellar promise, Lamebrain told me he heard me tell my son that the call was a scam and that "it was not a scam" and why wouldn't we "..like to take possession of such money?"
I reported that by his accent the call was likely a scam originating outside the country. Mr. Shelby said that I could go fxxx myself and that my son could also go fxxx himself too.
As an American with some experience identifying scammer accents, I guessed he was from Russia or North Africa and maybe Iran. He didn't sound like he was a Red Stripe Beer enthusiast to me, nor did I hear a breeze coming in from off Montego Bay in the distance.
The commercial about people here suddenly receiving huge cardboard checks from PCH authorized reps sure never indicates that some of their callers might ask of us disgruntled call receivers to do the impossible. It is a changing world.- Caller: "Publisher's Clearing House"
