- Paul| 12 repliesa Ms. Lee Anderson called asking for my daughter by name. She said my daughter wrote a book and wanted to talk to her. Later I checked with my daugher and that was not the case. Ms Lee Anderson asked for a cell number but I declined to give her it.
- Bruce Atchison| 1 replyAt 5:55 MDT on August 21, 2009, somebody named Lee Anderson called, asking about my Deliverance from Jericho book. Thinking she was a potential customer, I told her a bit about it. She asked what other books I'd written and I told her about When a Man Loves a Rabbit. Then the pitch started. She said that for $500, she could get my book advertisment to 50,000 e-mail addresses. She also assured me that all of those folks had opted in. After hyping Bookworld.com for about 10 minutes, she asked for my e-mail address. I refused to give it and hung up.

- Bruce Atchison| 2 repliesI just found a press release from the company with the 1-877-207-1679 phone number. The company is called BookWhirl.com. Their press release is at http://www.prlog.org/10121091-bookwhirlcom-la ... ak-program.html if you want to know more. I don't recommend this firm as their cold-calling prospects seems dodgy to me.

- Terry Parker replies to Bruce Atchisonsept 28th 2009 .. a man names eric called me and told me the same exact thing you have posted about if I gave money to them .. like 175.00 for starters he would make sure that 500,000 potential buyers would see my book .. I told him I would have to think about it and within just a few hours he called me again .. I told him I would give him 10 % of all profits for any books they sold of mine and was told sorry we cant do that .. so I ended it with that ..
to me it seems like a scam .. if I have to pay someone for the work I've done in writing a book .. to me seems like it should be them paying me something for MY work once it sells .. - PeanutWith some variation, basically a similar experience as above. I told caller to contact my publisher. He then wanted to know if I had written anything else. For more about them go to BBB

- ZHave had numerous calls from someone who pronounces his first name so quickly that I couldn't understand it, but his last name sounded like "Alexander." Which as I've seen, is similar to other names left for a Book World call. He also used the wrong gender designation with my name.
Being of a cautious nature, before I called him back I decided to do some research. They're apparently invisible, because I couldn't find them in any of the categories I tried, book sales, promotion, agents, etc. Fortunately, all that led to this site. And now I definitely will not be calling him back. As one of the other author's said, and I agree, why, after all my hard work, would I give someone else the proceeds from my book's sales?
Book World is welcome to talk to my answering machine as long as they like, but they won't be talking to me.- Caller: Book World
- Benitasaid his name so fast, I think it was Vic Alexander of book whirl...wants to make my book a best seller...I don't think sooooo...

- Kazuri replies to Paul| 1 replyI got a voice message from the same number -- the woman spoke in a very slurred tone so I couldn't really catch her name. She said she wanted to talk with me about a book I published nearly 10 years ago. After checking on this site I didn't bother to call back. Thanks!
- DebbieYep, two calls on my voice mail. Identified me by name. Asian accent. Said she was from Bookworm (?) and inquirted about my book. No, I've never written a book! Nice try, find another sucker!
- LKPJust received a message from them today. Could not understand the caller's name, but could tell he was male. I decided not to call back until I checked the area code listing, and 877 is not listed for any location in the United States. So, I became suspicious, and luckily turned to Google and eventually to this site. The message was they had a few questions about my book, which just came out in late March. This caller gave me an extension number, 337.
- LisaSame MO as other callers. I got a message from someone with a garbled first name and hardly audible website was calling me about a book. Now, I haven't even written a book so I have no idea from where they got my name and phone number. Turned to Google and what do I find. I'm also on the National Do Not Call list. Sounds like I'll be reporting this company to my state Attorney General's office.

- Francis ParkerReceived a message on answering machine stating I needed to call 877-207-1679 ext. 349 and speak with "Shannon" about my bill??? I wrote a book three years past but there is "NO BILL" associated with it. I called the number several times and dialed the ext. number...never a live person...only leave your name and phone number. RED FLAG ALLERT so I decided to quickly look up the phone number online and glad I did. SCAMMER!!! How can we put these "[***]" out of business and bring them to "justice?"

- Gina RDPSame story as LKP posted, and really all of you...there are oodles of 'companies' out there who would exploit writers (or artists), so a careful checking things out is a must!
Of course, I dre4am of that big call from a power agent or a filmbroker, but reality really really calls for caution.
Glad I found this message board.
Take care.
Gina - KarenI've gotten 2 messages on my answering machine from this # for someone who has not had this phone number in at least 6 yrs. The caller identified herself as "Jen", sounded Asian. Glad I checked here!

- JulieI kept telling them to call back some other time, then finally I got snagged into talking to one of them. This lady coerced me into giving her my e-mail address, which is the same as my site. My site lists my newest book...well, that was a mistake on my part. But I will not respond to the e-mail, and will tell them to stop calling. As far as I can tell, their "marketing" is to send out spam that directs the recipient to some site that advertises your book. No thanks!

- Michele| 1 replyJust had a Patrick something call with this number and leave a message on my answering machine. I called the number to see what I could hear (couldn't understand the Patrick guy in the message because it was all choppy and the website he quoted was inaudible). The phone call opened with selections of press 1, press 2, etc by some Asian lady who was inaudible. I hung up and checked the number on the internet to see what website they were quoting and found these postings. Glad to see other people had the same experiences and proceeded with caution.
- Michele replies to MicheleP.S. the extension on the phone number was 331 in case someone else received that number/extension.
- Jordon P| 1 replySame thing happened to me today. This guy called, could not understand the name of his company, and wanted to know if I was the Author for the novel "Fallen Lotus Petals" I asked him why do you want to know. He said he can only talk to the Author. I told him I was the Author. He then started with his sales pitch. His company could do all the online marketing and e-mail blast for me. I told him sorry but I I do my own online marketing. He kept on going with his sales pitch. I interrupted him and said, look I'm trying to make money from my book and you want money from me for my book. Do you see the conflict we have? At which point I hung up the phone. Always proceeded with caution with these unknown callers.

- An AuthorDo NOT respond to this organization regarding marketing your book - stay focus and continue with your plan of publicity and marketing - do not get distracted with this organization. Don't readily and easily get hooked up with "just any type of calls" - be SMART - always investigate - remember, you have a choice to investigate or waste your money - you choose.
