Had this automated call, asked for my husband to press 1. I found it fishy, called back and it asked to press 1, I was stupid and did, being naive. I immediately called the number on the actual RBC website. The rep advised that my husband was to call in. Will have him call our branch after he's home from work. Our bills are all paid so not sure what it is about.

This is not a scam.  Its is a legit RBC number relating to delinquent credit card payments. My son was receiving these calls and he emailed RBC Security. As it turns out, after checking his on-line banking, it wasnt about non-payment of minimum amount on purchases (he has auto-paymnent set up), he had an recent annual card fee that was not paid.
If in doubt go to RBC site and email RBC Security yourself

So far today (Nov 1), I have received 6 calls in under 5 hours, plus 4 voicemail messages.  This is harassment.  I'm supposed to believe that on a Saturday RBC really needs to talk to me - and they don't even give me a contact name (just a generic phone number)?

It is RBC but don't take my word or anybody else's. Call the phone number on the back of your debit or visa card and ask RBC directly what they want, or to verify the number as legit.  The branches don't have a complete list of active RBC phone numbers but the telephone agents do.  Remember always call the number on your card to confirm..

I received this call today.  Once they got to postal code confirmation I hung up.  I have NEVER had RBC call via a 877 number.  I did call RBC to question it.  They CLAIM it is one of their collection numbers for over due credit card payment.  Really?  When you read the replies on this site, and several others, some people have been told SCAM by RBC, others LEGIT.  Doesn't give me a lot of faith in RBC

We went directly to our bank to ask if there was a reason for them to call and they said no and that it was probably a scam and not to give them information. Any legitimate banking institution would not call and ask for personal information to identify you. After it asks you to confirm your name it then asks for personal info re: birth date etc to identify you.

How do you know the RBC Facebook page is real. NO LEGITIMATE banking institution would CALL YOU and ask you to identify yourself by giving them your personal information. They tell people this time and time again. Poor elderly people don't understand this and they prey on people who are un-informed. We need to report this number.

This is indeed the Royal Bank. I just called the bank to confirm this. Although I had already made the payment, it was collections on credit card. She  apologized for the mix up, verified the payment, made a note of it on my account, and said there will be no futher calls. THIS IS NOT A SCAM.

I got this call and instead called the advertised legitimate number for RBC 1-800-769-2511 that is on my bank card and they confirmed that the number is legitimate and that it is the outbound number used by RBC Visa when calling clients to let them know their payment is past due :( Embarrassing to admit, but back in the black now!

The number is listed on RBC's website as legit for automated alerts on VISA accounts. They called twice in one day w/o a message so I called the actual customer service number on my RBC VISA. The calls weren't phishing scams; they were legitimately 'alerts' from RBC VISA, though not about anything major.
