- Phred| 60 repliesSome kind of discount buying club. I just noticed a 59.95 hit on an old credit card I haven't used for a year. Checked it out by calling the number. They had an e-mail address on file for me I haven't used in years. I suspect there is fraud at work somewhere but not sure where to complain.
- Suzy replies to Phred| 26 repliesWe got nailed with a $59.95 "membership fee" when my husband registered for a 10k run through active.com. Be careful!
- Riley replies to Suzyo yeah, got the same fee, i'm going to talk to them soon, if they don't drop it i'm talking to visa.
- Bob replies to Phred| 1 replyTurns out when you register for an event there is an option (radio button) that is checked to receive a free 30 day subscription to active.com. If you don't cancel before then, it is automatically renewed for $59.95. I called a couple days after the posting and there was no problem reversing the charge.
- the_coach| 1 replyI got dinged by these weasals July31 when I registered my son for the Birchmount Baseball camp over the web using Visa in early July. I noticed a suspicious radio button that I thought I had clicked to NOT be billed by them for something useless but they got me anyways....
- 59.95 Active Membership Fee replies to the_coachI just called regarding the 59.95 Active Membership Fee. They canceled the membership and are going to refund the 59.95. Make sure you call asap.

- Ann Fisher replies to Phredjust received a bill on a credit card for a race my husband ran last year. If they don't remove I will call the attorney general and make a complaint with Cap One/Visa.
- VinceRunning next years Salt Lake Marathon, got hit with this hidden fee. Call them ASAP or they might not refund you.
- Caller: Active.com
- Call type: Event reminder
- Sgood| 1 replyIf you sign up for an event on (or that goes through) Active.com, they will see if you want to purchase a $59.95 membership for the website. This can easily be reversed if you call them ASAP. Call the number, press 2 and then press 1. I had to wait about five minutes to speak to someone but he was incredibly nice. Did not ask why I was canceling, just took care of it. Hope this helps. Good luck!

- sbrossi replies to Sgoodyes, same thing happened to my husband this week; i just read the post that said to call the number, press 2 and then press 1. So I did that and got an immediate refund. Doesn't seem like a scam, just a kind of tricky way for them to get members.
- ErrolGot a call from my CC company about fraud charges today. One of the items was Active 877-228-4881. I had no clue. Called 3 and , of course, no answer today, Sunday. Expect it to be a bogus charge. Will call again tomorrow and probably ask CC to not pay.
- todd replies to BobBob is exactly correct. Called the number and they very politely removed the charge. No hassles.
- disgruntled replies to Suzy| 10 repliesActive membership charge. I made two phone calls to them, and two to my bank, after seeing this $59.95 charge on my bank statement.
Apparently, if you sign up for almost any sporting event online, in small letters there is a choice to sign up for a trial membership with Active. I do not know what the membership offers you, I only know that it is very difficult to even see that you are being asked if you want it, nor whether you are to check 'no' or 'yes'.
In the end, after the phone calls, I am getting a refund -- it will take 3 to 5 business days, but that was a lot faster than filing a dispute through my bank.
It wasn't fun. So read very carefully when signing up online. - Ian replies to PhredFound the $59.95 charge on my credit card. May have been from signing up for the Seattle half marathon. I called the number and a nice woman answered said that it was a "voluntary subscription" and that it would be no problem to refund my money. I just called 5 minutes ago so we will see if I get the money back in 3-5 days.
- jimmygean| 1 replyJust noticed a 100.00 charge on personal credit card. Not a clue.
Will start the appeal process in the morning. - sandyeggos| 2 repliessame old story...a charge of $59.95 showed up out of the blue on credit card. The charge occured 11 months after signing up online for the Carlsbad, CA 1/2 marathon. I have attempted multiple times to call the number. Sometimes I get a fax machine answer, sometmes a recorded message. Have not been able to speak with a live person. Will keep trying, will also dispute this with the credit card company. Typical scam.
- jamesI just noticed the same $59.95 on my bank statement today and called Active.com. After 5-minute wait for customer service, they took care of the charge for me, no questions asked. Just by the fact that they have a prompt about the $59.95 charge when you call Active.com and by the number of posts online complaining about this charge, seems like Active.com has lost its trust among its customers. Not sure why such a highly reputable firm would risk its reputation on trying to scam race participants out of $60, but they lost a lot of credibility from me.
- SueL replies to disgruntledJust got hit for a $115.00 charge. Disputing it with my credit card company! Will call 877 228-4881 in the morning!
