    The phone call tells you if you are not the person they are looking for then hang up.  If you are the person that they are looking for then stay on the line. By staying on the line, you are admitting to be the person they are looking for

    How can you tell them the person they are looking for does not live at this number?

    Name on caller ID was my uncle's and when I picked up they asked for him. After I told him my uncle doesn't live here 3 times, and repeating that i don't know his number or where he live or where he works because we don't stay in contact, he started asking if my uncle has kids or a wife so finally i told him I was hanging up. He then gave me his number and said he was Investigator Block and was trying to get in touch with my uncle about some complaints made about him..Complaints my ass Im so sick of these collectors calling me about him. I haven't spoken to him in 6 years!!

    Under the TCPA, a consumer has a right to file a lawsuit and recover $500 for each call that violates the TCPA. The TCPA can also be used in conjunction with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in some situations.

    Generally, the TCPA does not apply to debt collectors making collection calls to debtors. However, if you are subjected to calls from a debt collector and you are not the debtor, you may file a lawsuit against the debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the TCPA.

    This right was recently recognized by Judge Legrome D. Davis in a case called Watson v. NCO Group, Inc.  NCO Group is a debt collector that uses automated prerecorded collection calls.  In this case, Mr. Watson alleged he was getting hundreds of calls from NCO Group after he got a new phone number. Mr. Watson claimed he owed no debt to NCO Group, Inc.  Mr. Watson filed suit under both the FDCPA and TCPA.

    David Israel, defense lawyer for NCO, argued that the TCPA should not apply to debt collectors.  Judge Davis rejected the argument made by David Israel. The judge ruled that Mr. Watson had a right to sue NCO Group Inc under the TCPA for $500 for each call.  Judge Davis wrote;

    [The] Court is convinced that a non-debtor's rights are in fact violated when he is subjected to repeated annoying and abusive debt collection calls that he remains powerless to stop.

    Judge Davis' ruling was based upon his interpretation that collection calls to non-debtors violate the privacy rights provided by the TCPA.

    So what can you do if you receive "wrong number" calls from debt collectors?

    1. Sign up for the Do-Not-Call registry.
    2. Save the calls captured by your voice mail or answering machine.
    3. Contact a consumer lawyer.

    These people keep calling and I have no idea who they are.  I don't answer the calls and they don't leave a message, so I assume it's a junk call of some sort.  How can I get off their list??

    I receive a lot of calls from this number. They are searching for someone who lives in the same apartment building who might have an unpaid T-mobile bill. I bet they reverse looked up a regular phone number based at this street address, and so now my telephone gets calls every day or two telling Brandon to call them back

    I received a voice mail from some bored-sounding young woman who said it was "very important" that I return her call at 877-229-2313.  When I called, a different woman answered.  She demanded the last 4-digits of my Social Security Number.  She then informed me that T-Mobile, a company with which I have and have had no business relationship, wants in excess of a thousand dollars and how would I care to take care of the bill?   She'd accept a check or a credit card.

    I've receved many calls from this number, they're looking for someone with the same last name. I don't know how they got my number, maybe from the phone book but that only list my first initial. I haven't been answering these calls, but sometimes they leave a message and this number to call and alot of time they just hang up when the machine kicks on. This past saturday mornng  they called and my grandson answered, he thought the call was for me and told them that I was his grandfather and handed the phone to me. I then told this individual that he had the wrong and not to call again. he was very persistant. Asking me to ask the person to call them! after I told him that I don't know this person, and that he had the wrong number. He said he wouldn't call again and hung up. Tuesday evening at approximately 7:15 I got another, a recording, with the same message that everone here is compaing about. I and my wife are just sick of this, it's been going on a long time.

    I have had several calls from this number and a recording says to wait for an "important call".  I get put on hold by the person calling me!  I have waited for the next customer service representative for as long as 3 minutes and then hang up without ever speaking with anyone.  Of all the nerve!

    On my answering machine, there was a message looking for my son who's been in the Army since 2003, the name obviously pronounced by a computer-generated voice...if these people think I'm calling them back to give them his information, they're crazy! I am upset, also, that when you try to track this number, you get the run around. If this is legit, the company needs to identify itself immediately and get to the point.
