    Caller ID said "private call" the message. Got the same call yesterday & they gave a different number in their voicemail. It's an awful scam where they threaten to serve you with papers & so on.

    Yea. , I just received a call from 1 877 239 5603 . The punk blocked his number so you could not find out where he was calling from . He really talked big . He is thinking that his number can't be found or traced . Well I have news for the the party making these calls . I know exactly where he is calling from and know exactly the building he is in . The modern age of technology is wonderful . If this guy calls any of you , just ignore any of his empty threats . The one part of his call that I really got a good laugh from was when he said : " You Have Been Warned " . To any of you people out there that gets these idiotic calls  just remember one thing , a person has to be mailed a certified letter in the U S. mail making it clear of there intent to try and collect a bill or debt . They can not come to your place of employment or send any law enforcement to do anything . These people prey on tht innocent and simple minded people . Don't be scared and fall for any of there threats or tactics. . All there threats or empty threats . Call your local attorney generals office in what ever state you are in . They will be glad to assist you in these matters .

    He said that they had verified my address & that he would not proceed until he had spoken with me personally & this was my final warning. It's ridiculous! I did have a couple of pay day loans, but I paid them off & have the letters to prove it. I am not even contacting these people back.

    I had something similar last year where a woman said she had an order for wage garnishment. I called my employer & put them on alert for anything suspicious & didn't return the call.

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    I also received a call from this very number. First off they called me @ my place of employment which is a no-no, then called me back to back (twice) on my personal cell phone (Private Number). I was informed by a young man that he was a process server and that he would be heading on I 295 to serve me papers. I then called the number that he had given me and a young lady by the name of Ashley answered the phone. She said I had an outstanding on line pay day loan back from Sept 2012 and that the amount in question was: $805. When I informed her I did not have that amount, she said that payment arrangements could be set up with a credit or debit card. This is when I hung up on her.

    The majority of debt collectors will send you a letter in the mail, not threaten to tell you that you are being served papers and are being sued by some group called Something? R Group. How do these people get our personal information? Do they sell your personal information to other companies for sell? If so is this legal? What can we as consumers do to protect ourselves? When these scammers start calling my place of employment, this is a problem and something needs to be done. Place some good advice. Thank you.

    I also have received 3 back to back phone calls on my cell phone and then they called my employer. They called yesterday as well and told me that they would be leaving their office in an hour to serve me. Nothing has shown up and my attorney told me to try and ignore them. But it is difficult when they call your employer. I would like to find a way to stop them as well, but have not been able to so far.

    Jodie,

    A young man called me again on yesterday and said his name was something Ramsey and that I was being once again served with papers. What I cannot understand is how they have retrieved our phone numbers and employees numbers. This is going to the extreme when they call your place of employment. All we can do is advise our co-workers is that when we receive these call, tell them that we are no longer employed at the company

    The same gentleman has been calling me for three months telling me that I qualify for a loan and when I instruct him that I  do not need the loan, He asks me why, I hang up and he continues to keep calling. I do not know what it will take to stop these people. No-one can come to your place of employment nor harass you at work.

    What other advice has your lawyer given?

    Jennifer, my attorney said to go ahead and let them serve me because he will then turn around and sue them for not following fair credit act laws. This is if it was a legitimate debt, which it is not. I have noticed though that if I ignore them, they go away for awhile but they always come back in a couple months, saying the same stuff but different "law firm". I know it is a scam but it is so frustrating and I have told all my co workers as well. I also notified our police department and the State Attorney General's office.

    OMG I just had the same call @ my ext. @ work and then private call on my cell....this is the 3rd time someone called me and stated that they will be to my job to serve me papers in an hour or if you say you know nothing about this Ashley Black is her name, she stated that she will be calling me back in a half hour giving me a chance to call legal services w/ 134-418fl being my case #....Now I thought about if this is indeed a case # why would a debt collector want to verify your address when they can just go to the address they have on file and serve the damn papers if thats the case....I must say they do a good job putting fear in some....But like Jennifer said calling my job is a no no, I have my attorney on speed dial...:)

    Irritated at all the calls replies to Anonymous
    I received the same call from number 877-239-5603 on my work number and cell number. I also received an email with the same "Case Number" requesting the same information and they make the document look official in an attachment. I have applied on sites for payday loans in the past, and I am positive that's where this scammer got my information as one of the companies accidently put my name as Minnie, (my name is mindi) and the voicemail I received and phone call addresses me as Minnie! I also get mailing offers addressed to Minnie, so I know they typed it wrong rather than someone’s bad accent just saying it wrong.
    Remember...If they are asking you for your address and employment address, they are not going to be legit. If something really has been filed in a court etc. they will already have some kind of address as they will obtain it from the government or contact your next of kin if they receive the mail back. True collectors show up at your door to serve you, send you something via certified mail, or call any relative they can find in the government system to get a valid number for you. I get calls for my estranged brother all the time simply because I am his sibling. If they really can't find you after that, they will list it in the newspaper as a final attempt to find you. Don't call these idiots back! Also, you can expect them to lay off for a few weeks, and then try again. The first time I answered, they told me the FBI was going to come get me from my place of employment, and I was going to lose my job because the FBI will tell my boss what I did. When I asked the caller who they represented, his responses was "I represent ALL THE LOAN COMPANIES". When I finally just hung up, they called back nonstop alternating from work to cell to work to cell. It was horrible!! They kept changing the outbound caller ID number because I was blocking it every time the number changed. They will stop at nothing to try and make you pay for a false debt over the phone. They scare you in to paying off the debt right then, which was never really a debt. They can assume you have taken out a payday loan and they get people to believe it's really a debt because they cause you to doubt yourself. Remember if all else fails, it will show up on your credit report if it's valid as any real loan company already has your SSN guaranteed. And real collectors don't block their phone numbers because they are counting on you to call back. They are happy to make it easy for you to contact them and to tell you where they are calling from they WANT to get in touch with you.  Good luck out there everyone!
