They try to tell me that I owe money and they are going to send over the police to arrest me, they want to advise me by law.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Called my Work phone and left a message: stating that if the phone was to my employer that I was being arrested for fraud and that I would be paying alot of money and going to Jail, on the call they kept referencing my name but as if they were calling my employer. The caller was a man with a accent from another country. The call seems to be a scammer seeking payment, due to no one calls a number and starts saying he is going to jail etc...

This person keeps calling me from this number saying i owe money and can get arrested. I'm scared but I'm not sure what i owe money for! Is this some kibd of scam!?

I got a call from a man with a thick accent telling me that for I have legal issues and that if I want my safety I should call him back. i am going to report this number to police

It's great that all these comments started the fourth because that's exactly when my calls started.....he won't leave me alone and he is harassing my work saying that he couldn't get in contact with me when he talked to me not 10 before!!! These people are very rude and hang up when I start asking questions. My favorite quote from the "senior" person is "the police will be at your mailing address within 24 to take you to jail, you're going down!"  I'm so annoyed but I wish they would stop harassing my workplace and saying my job is in jeopardy.....

They have been harrasing my work number to the point that they had to have this number blocked.  It is a multi line phone and they would be calling all lines at the same time for more than an hour.  It didn't matter if we told them we were contacting the Authorities or not the guy kept saying he didn't care.  It was a male with a very thick accent.  The calls also started yesterday but got really bad today! I wish there was something that could be done about it!

Started the 5th, same MO. I have had numerous calls like this and it is always the same. they try to cause problems at your job so you will pay them just to make it stop! I refuse!!!

I am getting threatening phone calls from this number.  The man claims to be "Mark Anderson" although he is clearly not American.  He claims that I will be going to prison.

I am getting the same harrassment from "Mark Anderson".  Saying there is legal action against my name and ss#. This started last week and he'll call my work number as well as my cell.  Blocked the number but then he calls from another number.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

when i csalled them back and asked them for specific information about there company and told them they tried to scam me last year threatning to call my work and get me fired... dont fall for it

I started getting calls around that time as well.   I asked who they were representing as well and they could n could not tell me the specific one.    I talked a guy name Ben.   He had a thick accent and was very rude.    I requested everything in writing but he kept saying they sent me 10 emails.    I was really scared about this but I feel better reading everyone's post.    I was threatened everything by him and most of all cussed at and called stupid by him.

They have been calling me and a friend telling me that they are goin to have a warrant out for my arrest if I don't pay for a payday loan then they called her saying that she is now responsible for my loan and she is going to have one. They are extremely rude and they called me every name under the sun yelling at me and cussing at me I found this site and it looks to me to be fraud

This guy from this number called me 8 tines on my cell..I refuse to answer 800 numbers..then he called my work and told my boss he was from the investigation dept.  and that I needed to call him  Now I am not stupid, I used to work for a credit bureau, and there are things you can say and not say, you can't call someone at work, you cant call before 8:30am. or after 8:30pm..I told my boss this guy has harrassed me for over two yrs.  I quit my job for awhile, they kept calling even though they told him I was not there anymore..I was gone over a year.  I have asked him for the bill in writing, and my signature...he gets real rude and threatens me.  I refuse to change my number just because of this INDIA bottom feeder.  These people need to go back to their own country.  I take the hispanics over these low lifes any day, at least the hispanics work for an honest living.  You can't even understand this guy.  It is also against the law to impersonate an investigator..I just don't understand why they can't shut these low lifes down.  Heck they own alot of 7-11's and other convenience stores,  and I refuse to buy from them.  They all need to be sent out of the U.S. on a rail.  I have turned this number in to the FTC. two years ago, but nothing done yet..since still getting calls, and so are others.  Next time he calls I am going to tell him I am reporting him to police..but this will not stop him..what a low life..they don't know how to have a real job..believe me they are a FRAUD..

These people have called my literally over three dozen times looking for someone named Dolly. I tell them every single time that they are calling a business line and to remove me from their call list. They continue to call

I guess I can be added to the list but this person has really reached the wrong agency. I am reporting it to Consumer Services here at the Attorney General's office. They will not give me their location as well so that I can send a letter saying DO NOT CONTACT.  If someone has a successful story in dealing with this agency, business please advise.

The only thing that has me worried is that I did notice a $30 withdrawal from my checking account. Then a week later the calls started. They had all my info except my social security #. They told me a number and when I said that wasn't mine they said that didn't matter. The guys said his name was Frank Hudson. He keeps harassing me at work. Another employee spoke with him and told him to stop calling and we we're reporting him to the police. He screamed at her and called her a "fraudulent person". Either he thought he was talking to me or he was really reaching there. Since they have my work address and phone number as well as my home address, bank account and cell phone number... I am reporting it to my local police department and bank. Has anyone seen any money missing from their bank account? They are probably the jerks who stole my info in the first place! Oh! When I asked to see "all of the evidence against me" that he said he had, he said pay $200 and you can. I said it doesn't work like that! He said he wanted to speak to my manager to start wage garnishments. I said that doesn't work like that either! He said yes it does. I said clearly you are not from the US because then you would know that. I'm just so distraught at the harassment at my work place. It's embarrassing and stressful even though it's not my fault.
