This actually was the Shell Citicard Fraud Department warning me of a problem with my credit card. But since it was an automated call, I did not do anything that the call wanted me to do (they wanted me to cancel the card immediately with no information about what was going on). I hung up & called the number on the back of my credit card to talk to a real person. They told me that the card had not been used to try to buy anything, so it wasn't actually compromised but that there was a potentiality that it was in a batch of cards that could be compromised.  I really couldn't get a good answer as to why I should cancel the card since it hadn't actually been compromised or used (they were vague on specifics of the situation) but I thought it better to cancel the card than risk potentially fraudulent charges.  My thoughts are that there might have been a possible hack of Citicard and they didn't want to acknowledge that to me, although I didn't think to ask them that question at the time. And it's possible that if I had asked them that question they might not have told me that was what happened.  But I don't know how else they could know my credit card number was potentially compromised unless they knew more than they were telling me. I rarely use this card, but my husband uses it. In all honesty I did not like how I was being alerted about a problem. With so many sleazy telemarketers on the phone & scam artists on the Internet, an automated phone call does not cut it. I would advise anyone who gets a call like this to not do anything that the call suggests but first call the number on the back of your card and speak to a real person who can hopefully give you more information. It's a real pain to have to cancel a credit card but having my identity stolen would be a bigger pain. This isn't my first encounter with credit card fraud so I'm much more wary now. I hope this information helps. This number will not be added to my blocked number list on my phone.

This is from Citi Cards Early Fraud Warning.  There are many branded cards Citi offers.  In my case it is Sears, and there were two fraudulent charges that day on my credit card.  If you are really worried about the legitimacy of this number, call the Customer Service number on the back of your card, and they can direct you to Security phone number, which will be different than this number.
