Call received about 8:30 am local time, recording, stating that my credit card was vulnerable to theft/fraud, that the bank had sent me a new one, and that I was to call 877-294-6933 to activate the card.   The call came from 800-869-3557 a legitimate Wells Fargo number.

got a call from wells fargo, 800-869-3557, telling me my card has suspicious transactions and I need to activate my new card (I checked, no odd transactions on my account). But I got a new card two days later in the mail, but it seems to be the most suspicious of all. The sticky tape to hold the card down was more like glued on, the outside has no mention of Wells Fargo, and it directs me to call this number: 1-877-294-6933. I think the real bank would not keep one guessing as to the meaning of all this... I would hope.

This authentic sounding call from apparently from Wells Fargo Bank to press 1 to enter your credit card number to activate a credit/cash card they sent earlier. I got this call at my work place at the main number which no one should use for personal purposes since there is no privacy on that line.
I checked Wells Fargo website for this number and I don't see this number and I have contacted Wells Fargo Fraud line about this but they haven't responded yet. Normally we, the card holder, will call the number noted on the sticker on the credit/cash card and not the other way around.

got a recorded call about activating Wells Fargo credit card, which I have never applied for.  I called the number back to see if it was legit.  "Gilbert" asked for my name, and since I don't have an account with Wells Fargo, he couldn't find me by name, but should have been able to if I have a credit card with them!  He then asked for my social security number!  Of course I refused, but he offered that I could go into a branch for help.  My reverse number findlookup attempts show no information for this number.

I received a message from 877-294-6933 on my cell phone inquiring why I had not activated the card that was recently sent to me. I have never given my cell phone # to WF and was not expecting any cards. Very "official" sounding message. But I was concerned because I had just re-ordered checks and wondered if there was a problem. I did not return the call and do not plan to, even though the message suggested that I call them back. Thank goodness for this site because reverse lookup was a waste of time.

Got this message too and was immediately leary of it since we also do not have a WF account.  Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Married to a Wells Fargo Employee
Got an automated call saying we haven't activated the Wells Fargo card yet. No one in our family has ordered new cards. My husband is a branch manager of Wells Fargo. He said this is a SCAM. NEVER, NEVER give your card number out and never give out your PIN to anyone! I hope these scam artists get caught. I hope they call a cop next.

Just received a call on my cell phone from 877-294-6933.  An official sounding recording told me that I hadn't activated my new check card yet and to please call back to activate the card. The recording didn't give me the name of the bank but I figured it was a scam because I haven't ordered a new check card, and my bank only has my home number.

    warning!
Just received a call on my cell phone from 877-294-6933.  An official sounding recording told me that I hadn't activated my new check card yet and to please call back to activate the card. It said it was Wells Fargo.  I didn't order a new card so I called Wells Fargo customer service (# on back of card or from the website) and asked if they sent me a new card.  They didn't and they couldn't identify that phone number.

I just received a automated phone call on my cell phone from Wells Fargo, saying they have mailed me my new check card and I haven't activated it yet.  I could press 1 to activate.  It then ran through some other options and then said Good Bye and the call ended.

I called back the # that appeared on caller ID and it says its Wells Fargo, and to enter your card #.  No way!!

I don't have an account through WF --- ever!  Beware, sounds very fraudulent like someone out there is trying to get your card #'s.

I have rec'd several calls on my answering machine stating they are from Wells Fargo and that they have sent me a check card that needs to be activated. They say to call 877-294-6933 to do so. I do not bank with Wells Fargo and was very concerned about this. Called the number today and spoke with someone named Lourdes. She said they could not find me in their system without my SS#. Never heard of a system that you couldn't search by name, phone #, etc. Refused to give her my number. Found this website and now find this even more suspicious!

There are several systems within the banking/brokerage industry that require an SSN or account number to search.

Have you ever tried searching through a system with hundreds of thousands if not millions of people...by name?  Do you think that people keep updated phone numbers on their accounts...NOPE!

I also got a call from this number asking me to activate a Wells Fargo check card that I don't have. I have never had any account with any Wells Fargo Bank anytime anywhere, and after speaking to several people there, I never will. They say it is a legitimate WF number and the only way I can check to see if someone is trying to use my identity to open an account is to visit a WF branch with photo ID or run my credit report. When told that I had seen numerous other complaints from people who got the same call, the answer was basically that they were sorry but there was no way they could trace the problem without my "assistance" by doing one of the above. I'm sorry, but it seems that Wells Fargo has a problem if their robocaller is annoying people with this kind of suspicious activity.

This number belongs to a scam.  A bank, any bank will never call you to activate your card, that is totally up to you.  They will never 'lock' your account either.  This caller is running rampant and so are their e-mails.  If they are asking for any account information, they are not who they say they are and you can kiss your credit goodbye.
