phone company makes fortune from these 800 service numbers

Spammers. The legitimate charity doesn't call make cold calls from  "800 Service". They'd have their correct name on the caller ID.

I have, in the past, filed many complaints with the FCC for the seemingly endless number of violators to the 'Do Not Call Registry”.  Although this has proven to be effective and has prevented specifically identified violators from calling again there will always be more idiots who choose to do so.   I have since applied all of my valid incoming telephone call numbers with ‘special unique’ assigned ring tones and I do not answer any incoming call that activates the ‘standard’ ring tone.  With the ‘special’ ring tones the desired calls can be easily identified from a distance and even before looking at the callerid!  One needs not be interrupted from daily activities by having to rush to answer an undesired and intrusive phone call.   I advise facilitating this logical ‘solution’.  It is very easy, takes only a few minutes and it will solve nearly all of the problems by immediately identifying the intrusives.  Unfortunately, as with all technologies, the uniquely and specially assigned identifying ring tones don’t activate 100% of the time because nothing is completely accurate (in rare instances ‘desired’ calls may activate the ‘standard’ ring tone) but since I took this course of action many months ago I have discovered that it performs as designed about 95-98% of the time.  I understand that we are all aggravated by the inconsiderate idiots who push their products and services or attempt to obtain money or our personal information when it is our desire and our right to be left alone.  We pay for the use of our phones and these other ignorant a$$holes have no right to take advantage of them.  I have chosen to live by the philosophy “ignore the ignorant”.  It is up to all of us to personally take actions to ensure that our own rights are protected because others are focused entirely on themselves and their desires for personal gain.  If no one chose to answer (yes, we have a choice) these intrusively ignorant phone calls all of the efforts of those undesirables would be in vain.  Please take a few minutes to give this identification method a try … if you do not feel that it helps then you can always reconfigure the phone numbers back to their original specifications.  I sincerely hope that this “solution” helps.  It has proven to work for me!

These people are 'Big Brothers & Big Sisters'.  They will come get your unwanted items for donation.

Any call that comes in Unavailable is never answered. I subsequently report this to the FTC. No voice message left.  This call came right at dinner time while we were eating.

This is BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS they are a legitimate non-profit who is trying to raise funds for mentoring programs by picking up gently used clothing and household items with their truck fleet. They have provided outstanding customer sevice on many occasions at my home.

Well Jim if this is legitimate why are they not leaving messages and just hanging up like everyone else does????!!!!!!  If they want donations then leave a message and let me decide!  I'm sure it's not legit or they would leave a message!!!

they are just like all the rest of the [***] that make unwanted calls. they should have high voltage leads connected to their genitalia, and left to fry.

Spammer/scammers.  A google seach does show this number on some sites associated with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. I suspect that these legitimate organizations have signed on with this spammer group for some small cut of the profits or referrals.  Too bad. Legitimate charities should use their correct names on caller ID and leave proper phone messages. Don't reward the bad behavior. Don't answer. If you would like to have a legitimate charity pick up your used junk, look them up and call their local office.

Called ID shows "800 Service".  No message was left on my answering unit.  I am on the "Do Not Call" registry and will report this call as a violation.

HANG UP - NO MSG

Called me three times today but alway hang up when I pick-up.  What have they accomplished?  I will never donate to them and they are now blocked.

When you call back it tells you it is big brothers/big sisters charity for donated items to be picked up at the house.
